Mafia After Dark - Conclusion: City of Gods
jimmynick replied to Tamamono's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
This was exciting to watch - I'm glad the town rallied so hard in the face of the serial killer and the scum team. Congratulations scum! My kill was one-shot. -

I really like both the Blade Runner and Millennium Falcon campers - very creative! -
Poster says "written and directed by Nathan Todd".

[MOC] The Swamp Witch (post-Heroica Contest feedback)
jimmynick replied to Ragnar_Deerslayer's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
The tiled surface makes the colours in the swamp a bit blocky. You could try building it in a SNOT fashion so you can work the plates in dimensions of plates rather than studs. Using more of those foliage pieces would probably help, as well, to give an organic feel to the swamp. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
jimmynick replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
You could build the second GE as a straight building for a long department store that only has one corner module, or you could stack the middle floors on top of each other. Anything you like, really. -
~26.14 studs, but the distance from the centre to the corner will be a smidge longer.

The combination of colours is fantastic, especially with the dark red roof. The interior has some great details as well - that's a good solution to making the hob!
-
So many details! I especially like the rubbish bin made from chain links, and I think the Sandman's hand is made very well, if simply. I also like the well-textured buildings and the sewage pipe. The build is fantastic all round.

Good Evening New York City (on CD). It's on YouTube if you want to listen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDvzu6EdwyM

i just noticed that the interior of the cafe has a two-tone dark and light tan colour-scheme that's separated by the black stripes. It's such a subtle touch, but it's a great addition.

Contest Contest: Pimp My Camper! Discussion Thread

I imagine not - here, the contest is to "Pimp" a camper, but over on FBTB it is to "Star-Warsify" a camper - different objectives. -
What's your favorite railway museum and why?

Last time I was there, the Flying Scotsman was in all sorts of bits and pieces - but it's very interesting that they let you see the restoration in process.- 22 replies

Wow - I love the interior. It's so realistic! I also like the tiling on the floor in the central part of the chapel - it's a great detail. The tiling on the roof is fantastic as well.

Well, Airfix and similar models aren't meant to be disassembled and rebuilt in different ways - but you can kitbash them from the start if that's what you want to do. That possibility isn't here, but as others have said this is certainly for children who want to grow up to plastic scale models but don't really have the patience for it. A few years ago, I got a couple of those Revell quick-build things, and they were fun (I seem to recall certain parts wouldn't stay in place, though). I think the point of studs is so the models can be easily put back together if broken (which is not the case with the Revell kits in my experience). Also, as you say, this product is probably for children who are stuck between LEGO and Airfix on the plastic-kit spectrum. No doubt studs are familiar to those children so these quick-build kits are easy to work with. Clever move by Airfix - I can see the market's there, but it's not my cup of tea. But we are definitely not the target audience.

Oh, wow, that mammoth! -
I'm thinking about what I'll buy when double points come around and I can hit the LEGO shop in Chicago again. And whether or not the Minecraft Village set is a good buy (I think it is).

Hi TheN1K0L4Z, and welcome to Eurobricks. I sometimes feel I have trouble with imagination - and I think that's why I'm studying engineering rather than art (for example), I think. I do know that when I open LDD with no specific plan in mind (supported by roughly-dimensioned sketches) I have a hard time getting done what I want doing. And when I do have a plan, I get good results. Not everything is about imagination. I'm certainly not a source to consult on that, so maybe you could research authors and how they exercise their creativity? Perhaps you could consider making models of things that exist, or building more often. As the trite saying goes, "practice makes perfect". If you build more often, I'm sure your skills will improve - it's certainly been the case for me. Maybe you're too hard on yourself - I look forward to seeing what you have to offer.

Ah, I'm all out of ideas. I love all of these entries (recently Bag End and Sharknado). Voting's going to be really hard, I think. -
Congrats on another great car, ER0L! I like the offset section of the bonnet and the wheels & tyres. I'm curious - on the side shots, I can see a very thin line underneath the tiles that make the sides of the cars - what is that?

Everything looks good - especially the half track. Well done on the build!

Brickshelf goes down intermittently and Flickr was down for maintenance for 8 hours earlier today. I think that might be your problem.

That's a very nice fence you've put around the property. Simple, but effective. I also like that you included the bright green waste with an alien in it. Perhaps you could build out the towers at the top using plates to get the nice hyperbolic look they usually have? One more thing: using sand green plates around the roofs of the buildings is a fantastic way to introduce a little colour. Great job, Serengeti!

Very well done, Kristel! I like the little black facade you've put for the cafe - it makes me think of wrought iron. The interior is excellent as well. Is the facade on the upper floors tan or dark tan? I can't really tell.
-
This is fantastic! I think the pyramid might look better if it weren't bent, but you've got a great little scene here - I like that you included corn. There aren't really enough Mesoamerican MOCs around, but this is a great start to changing that.

Is Bricklink really a market for parents to buy their children toys? I always thought it was an exchange for AFOLs to buy and sell the parts, sets and figures they needed for MOCs, completing collections, whatever.
