  1. Man, that was a terrible scene. He runs out of the tomb, past the White Tower, along that promontory and all to throw himself off that particular precipice whilst burning to a crisp. He seems to do it faster than Usain Bolt could, so I was surprised he didn't put the flames out at that speed. I think it's the scene I find the most annoying in the 3 films. Tolkien handled it pretty well, PJ not so much. But a Denethor figure would be great and it'd mean we'd get a grey version of Thorin's hair.
  2. Correct. We'll surely see Gondor, the Witch King and Eowyn, and the Balrog. The sets practically design themselves. I'd always thought we'd get Treebeard too, but with the Orthanc Ent I'm not so sure. I hope we do. Then, will there be a prologue set or Galadriel? I'd love for there to be both, but would probably say the latter was more likely. It shouldn't be too long till we start to hear, and Orthanc then Rivendell will keep me going in this wave until we do. They're great sets, with lots about them to enjoy.
  3. That's a really good review. I loved the 3 parting thought pictures, and the group shot of the mechs is great. I have Lex's and Dr Inferno's which is enough for me, but the Striker is a fine design and if I was tempted to go for a Gorilla Grodd set-up to fight the Flash, it'd be perfect. The shape of it, and the banana gun, are inspired.
  4. Mine's showing as on its way. I've rashly committed myself to finishing building a treehouse for my children before I can start on Orthanc though.
  5. To paraphrase the Beatles, "Woke up, got out out of bed, dragged the comb across my head, found my way downstairs and drank a cup, turned on the computer and ordered the Tower of Orthanc." Made me miss my train, but the warm glow that comes from knowing it's ordered was well worth the rush at the other end. Can't wait. The more you look at this set, the more nice touches you notice. Having the pictures of the 5 wizards, including representations of Alatar and Pallando, is an obvious one that's been discussed before, and the nod at the reference by Saruman to the keys and the rods of the 5 wizards is clever. I think somewhere in the books there's a reference to Saruman breeding wargs in his dungeons, and if so the stickers with the eyes tap into that. I think when it comes to it, they could have got away with making a big black pointy tower and middle-aged fan boys like me would've still paid out for it (Because it's Orthanc! And it's made of Lego!), but they haven't - the they've made an interior which is well thought through and is a little homage to the films and the books in a way that shows the designers really cared about their source material. That impresses me hugely. AND they've done it by combining them with enough play features to make it something my kids will love playing with (nearly as much as me). All in all, LOTR lego at its best I reckon.
  6. Thank you Rufus for taking the time to write a really excellent review. It is informative, balanced and entertaining. I've been selling and saving for this set and the review will keep me going until I can actually order it.
  7. I've been very excited about this set since pictures of it first surfaced, and after reading this great review and seeing the photos I now can't wait to get hold of one - or two, because as can be seen in another thread, two together look fab.
  8. I'll add my voice to the chorus of praise. This is a fabulous set that quite simply delivers almost everything you could ask of it (I would've said it delivers everything if I hadn't read the post about the lack of a Jedi ghost). It's an amazing combination of a great build, great figures and great play features. Well done TLG. Best Star Wars set ever? Must be a contender. Will I buy it? Well I haven't bought the other contenders for that accolade the Death Star or Cloud City. This certainly has more potential for other uses - as others have said, it would make a great base for a Lorien or Mirkwood MOC, although when it comes to it in strictly SW terms I prefer the other 2 locations. I bought Arkham, and will be buying Orthanc, so I think the wifely reservoir of tolerance for my purchasing of massive lego sets is at risk of running dry. I'll have to plant the seeds in my kids' minds so they ask for it as their main Christmas present.
  9. That's a fantastic figure. I think I completely missed him in the game, so glad to see the image now. It would make for a wonderful official figure but I wonder if because he's only in the books not the films the licence would allow TLG to make one. It's a bit like the Tom Bombadil debate that occupied some of us a while ago on the main thread. Just like one of Bombadil, I would buy almost anything that came with a Glorfindel minifig based on this image. Thinking about it, I'd be even more keen on Glorfindel than Bombadil because you can make a Bombadil reasonably easily using official bits. My only attempt at a 2nd Age or otherwise mighty Noldor has been to use Haldir with a gold sword and the king of Atlantis golden helmet. I'm hoping we might eventually get the Rivendell cavalry from AUJ in a set; they are very in-keeping with how I imagine the elves of the 1st and 2nd Ages to look when they went off to war.
  10. Excellent MOC! Full of Dwarven style.
  11. Mine are: 1. Black Batman 2. New Joker 3. Superman 4. Green Lantern 5. Old Two Face 6. Deadpool 7. New Scarecrow 8. New Riddler 9. Lex Luthor in power armour 10. Old Joker
  12. There are some fantastic builds here, and choosing 3 is very hard, but mine are: 5. Roman Emperor 1pt 7. Cyclops 1pt 17. Chicken Suit Guy 1pt
  13. I think that the Army of the Dead figures are a pretty impressive likeness (in tiny cartoony form) of the characters in the film. My issue with them is that they're neither of them a particularly good likeness to the ones in the book, which are more grey and pale and misty and altogether more like a lurking, half-seen horror than a bunch of luminous green zombie-ghosts. So PJ took something that was quite subtle and turned it into something that wasn't, but that was still entertaining, and TLG have (in my view) continued that very effectively with the look of the figures. But I still won't be buying them, oh no, nor the Black Gate either (which as we've been saying for a while now needs 2 sets to be worthwhile). I'm saving my pennies for Orthanc.
  14. I got the Cavalry and Colby City from Amazon.de because I couldn't wait till July for them to be released in the UK. I'm really impressed with the figures, and the general Old West feel. Of corse Colby City could be much bigger, but for the price, I think they're great sets. And Silver makes a great Snowmane.
  15. I'm with the "impressed" faction. It's an iconic building, and they've done a great job of replicating it. The detail in the interior is well thought out and there's plenty of clever touches - pictures of the 5 wizards, the light-up Palantir, Saruman's robes, etc etc etc. Well done TLG. I have no idea where I'll put it.
  16. A wave 3 Frodo and Sam in orc armour would be fantastic. "Escape from the tower of Cirith Ungol" - Shagrat, another random orc (Gorbag in the book), Frodo and Sam and then some random bricks that are meant to represent an enormous building. Kind of like the evil version of "The Council of Elrond" I suppose.
  17. Hmm, but what if someone in Australia made a slingshot and fired the tile with the image of the slingshot on it?
  18. I agree, the Wizard Battle is a fantastic set, and it's a great thing of TLG to do to put two such iconic figures in such a low price set. Rivendell could've been a huge set of course, but its simplicity is kind of charming and the set does capture something of the feel of the place from the books, films and game. I'll be getting them as soon as I can. My only gripe with Rivendell is the choice of yet another Gimli as a figure in it (old Bilbo would've been perfect), but Elrond and Arwen more than make up for that. Buy 2, sell off the duplicate Elrond, Arwen and Frodo, pay someone to take Gimli, then enlarge the scene a bit with the extra parts is my plan. As I've said some time back, although the ship's good, it's not for me. I was planning on getting 2 Black Gate sets, and combining them to make something that looked like the proper thing, but now I've seen it up close thanks to the great new pics, I'm not so sure. The set is kind of the opposite of the Wizard Battle - it's expensive, it's only half a set, and the minifigs are a real mix of the inspired (Mouth of Sauron), the good (Gandalf and Aragorn) and the lazily re-hashed (those orrible orcs). And when it comes to it, it's just a gate.
  19. Nicely done folks. The idea was a great April fool's one, and the comments have been priceless.
  20. He can do a pretty good imitation - head and neck and hind legs move so you can get him standing up and looking forwards. I would tend to agree with the majority above, a new mould would seem really unlikely in the circumstances, and is unnecessary. What would be more useful would be to create a figure for Beorn in man-form that is notably bigger than the norm, assuming film Beorn is like book Beorn. That's a lot of "orn" and "orm"s in one sentence.
  21. That would be really great if you could - would be fascinating to see the masterpiece coming together!
  22. Another fantastic Helms Deep expansion, Bytor. I am so impressed by it, like I am with Eurolock's - both works of building genius. The rest of us are crying out for instructions on how to do it!
  23. These are just great. BTAS is my favourite screen representation of Batman, and the Lego sets pay pretty good homage to the look of the series, but these wonderful MOCs show just how closely the two can come together. "Almost got 'im" is a superb episode, and if I had to pick a couple of others "Harley and Ivy" and "Point of View" would be up there.
  24. Lovely MOC. Very in keeping with the Conan-Doyle image of them (although former military man Dr Watson would probably never have been seen out with a collar as loose as that).
  25. Cantina crowd; remaining bounty hunters; Bespin Luke, Leia and Lando; Endor Luke, Leia and Han. And Jace Malcom with a helmet please.
