The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion

Yep, grown on me too. Massive temptation to get it and try and make it into something a bit Transformersy.- 2,626 replies

LEGO LotR - general discussion
Brickadiergerard replied to General Magma's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I completely agree. I think logic says they'll be LOTR, but then I think that's just wishful thinking by me.Whatever they are, I just can't bring myself to imagine the LOTR line will end not with a bang but with a whimper. I really hope that's right. -
Another vote for LTC. The only set I've bought was MEA, as I thought it would be the stand out one from the range which I thought was surprisingly weak. But I was wrong about the best set (well, I think I was). My kids got LTC as a joint Christmas present from a family friend, and it's great. Good figures - although I really don't like Bilbo's face -, lovely build, captures the feel of the location well, the boat is gorgeous, and it's got plenty of play options and uses. With a bit of tweaking following a falling off a table incident, it even sits respectably alongside MMV as a sort of river wharf area. MEA on the other hand is, to me, another "almost" set. Thranduil is a great figure, the printing on the elves is lovely and it's nice to have a brown warg, but it fails on the details for me - why no Elven helmet? what's with the weird elf-chucking tree and the wall that goes nowhere? I see from the designers on the lego website that if you get 4 sets you can join them up to make a fort. Great! I am the owner of a quarter of a fort! I would sooner have been the owner of all of a better-designed stand-alone structure like a lookout post in a tree, or even a version of the watergate that was just a wall and a gate. Like plenty of people, I'm sure, we've used the bricks to make something else (a fort in a tree as it happens). So I suppose it encouraged my kids' creativity.

As others have already said, thanks for this great review. It would've been easy to go short on the set because of its size, but you packed in the detail which is really appreciated! I think this is a really good set - in fact, I think it's the only one of the new wave that has no disappointing features. Great figures, good little vehicles, no stickers, nice little play features, and a great price. Well done TLG! No wonder this is the set my kids most want to get from the new range. I am a big fan of the new-look Penguin torso, and giving him grey legs is a much better look than the purple from series 1 or the violet ones from Arkham. He's meant to be a snobbish, old-fashioned, snappy dresser, and if a gentleman is wearing a tailed morning suit then he only ever wears grey trousers. Scuba Bats is great too - I love the printing, especially the head and I agree with others that the printing of the face with the black cowl surround may be the shape of things to come. That surround certainly looks to be an improvement in the existing one with the line of it softening the edges that exist in the current set-up. I just hope that the fleshie print on it doesn't look too thin.

I'm not so sure, because of where different bits are made, but I would love it if we did. Given how far TLG has come with printing, I find it really surprising that they didn't sort out hobbit feet printing. It's such an iconic thing and to not do it has always seemed to me to be one of those missed opportunities in the LOTR and Hobbit ranges. I'd thought that maybe it was technically impossible, but as soon as I saw the Simpsons I did think "they've done it for Bart, why not Bilbo?"

LEGO LotR - general discussion
Brickadiergerard replied to General Magma's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Mine too. The kids can fend for themselves. Who needs food anyway? -
I think that given the medium in which they're working, TLG's designers have made this this best possible rendition of the subject that they could've done. It's a labour of love on the same scale (metaphorically and literally I suppose) as Orthanc is, full of little nods to the show. Much as I admire it, and think it's fairly reasonably priced for what it it, I won't be getting it because I just can't get sucked in to another theme and another big set. I won't. Must. Exercise. Self-control. But I will try and BL the car. And Flanders. And Lionel Hutz if he becomes a CMF.

[LDD MOC] 71,000 piece, 13-foot Super Star Destroyer
Brickadiergerard replied to Fox Hound's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I'm not sure which I'm most stunned by, the excellence of the model or the scale of the labour put in to designing it. Whichever it is, it's an amazing achievement. Fantastic work. -
The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion
Brickadiergerard replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Absolutely. And what's the point in a film about your product if you don't maximise the ranges to which the sets cross-refer? I hope Batman gets a new head with some snarly facial expressions - I ended up using a Nova head with a couple of spots of black paint near the eyes on one of mine to get a bit of variety.- 2,626 replies

Rohan BP at it's best would include a royal guard, shields with the white horse emblem of the house of Eorl, a cool banner and a Rohan captain, a decent new horse or two and a couple of new soldiers. Mount Doom at its best would be Tired Frodo and Sam and another Gollum and plenty of rocks. Sauron, Gilgalad, Elendil and co would surely be in a ser called Last Alliance - their involvement with Mount Doom itself is either limited or non-existent. For me, Rohan BP beats any realistic Mount Doom set, but it wouldn't beat a Last Alliance one. So for the present round, another vote for Rohan please. But its days are numbered.

REVIEW: 70813 Rescue Reinforcements
Brickadiergerard replied to Clone OPatra's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I hadn't been at all interested in this set before I read this great review by CO'P. Having read it, I can see that it has a lot to recommend it. For me as for many others the highlights are the two civilian minifigs. The firemech is well-thought out, as is Hank's windmill flyer, but I can't see how they hang together in the same set. Maybe it'll all become clear when we see the film. At the moment I don't see myself or my kids deciding to spend the big money on this set rather than, say, Wildstyle's bike chase or Lord B's lair.- 27 replies

The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion
Brickadiergerard replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
You probably do - and it will be better than the one we get in the UK, come out earlier, have polybags, Target exclusive figures and, if it could, cost half as much!! Maybe it is just from the film, although in the UK version it looks a lot like a real figure. But that may be because it's a film about figures. Anyway, the Sea Cow version looks to have an off-centre lock like that guy.- 2,626 replies

REVIEW: 70807 MetalBeard's Duel

Another great review, but we'll have to differ in our opinions: I think this is a great set - it has a massive steam-punky robo pirate in it after all.- 35 replies

On pages 9 and 11 of my kids' latest lego magazine are pictures of the 2 variant MetalBeards. Page 9 is the one from the boat - he has a snarlier face and a couple of other minor differences with the one in the duel, but looks to be the same size.- 2,626 replies

LOTR & The Hobbit 2013 Set Discussion
Brickadiergerard replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
There's no hiding the fact that LOTR lego is bought by me for me. Hobbit stuff can be passed off as for me and the kids. I'm safe when it comes to DC Superheroes or City or, now, Movie sets because they're the ones my girls play with the most. So when Middle-Earth ends, I guess that's where my lego bucks will continue to go for the time being.- 7,499 replies

I wanted to find this out too - no sign of them anywhere, and I can find no dates online either. It's frustrating isn't it? I really want to get my hands on some of the collectable minifigures bags.- 2,626 replies

LEGO LotR - general discussion
Brickadiergerard replied to General Magma's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I agree. I'd be surprised if there were only 4 for TABA, and I'd be even more surprised if they were released so early in the year. So I'm still convinced these are LOTR sets. The price points work too. I've refined my rampant speculation, and taken some deep calming breaths after the sets numbers appeared, but there are some pretty obvious sets that fit them aren't there: Mirror of Galadriel or Frodo and Sam in Mordor is the 12€ set Balrog or Gondor army builder or Witch King on fell beast is the 35€ set A bigger Balrog set (if it's not the 35€ one) or Treebeard is the store exclusive 79016 at 50€ or thereabouts Pelennor fields/Osgiliath is the 90€ set Of those I'd go for Mordor hobbits (because I think we'll get Galadriel in TABA), Witch King, big Balrog set and Pelennor/Osgiliath. But that of course is sheer conjecture! -
LEGO Ultra Agents 2014
Brickadiergerard replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Great, great news. Our modest Agents collection has been my kids' go-to source of dastardly baddies for many a superheroes game. Orange-suited henchmen rock. Especially when accessorised with a retro BrickArms firearm. -
LEGO LotR - general discussion
Brickadiergerard replied to General Magma's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I said I'd trust to logic and wait, and now hurray, looks like we're getting 4 sets this summer! 79016 should be some sort of retailer exclusive. Probably LOTR sets because of the timing. The 35€ set will hopefully be the Balrog and one figure, and the 90€ the Witch King plus Gondor stuff? 12€ Mirror of Galadriel or Frodo and Sam in Mordor? Let the rampant speculation commence!! -

LEGO LotR - general discussion
Brickadiergerard replied to General Magma's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
The clearest things that suggest to me there'll be a 3rd LOTR wave are the contents of wave 2, the absence of Gondor from waves 1 or 2, that ancient photo of the design studio with a balrog in it (alongside lots of other Middle-Earth stuff that has made it into set form), and the loopiness of a decision to quit the range at this stage having bought the licence for all the films. The whole 2 into 3 films and then the fluctuating release dates for TABA must have played havoc with TLG's planned set release schedule. So I'm going to be patient, trust to logic, and wait. Having just watched DOS, I am more positive about the Dol Guldur Battle set - it's not such a bad reflection of the scenes - but Ambush? Wave 2's weird hybrid set. -
The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion
Brickadiergerard replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Great to see a slightly revised Johnny Thunder. We know he comes with the Drop Ship and Zane too. If GL is coming in wave 2, he must be in Metalbeard's ship musn't he? The alternative could be that because he's identical to SDCC they've included a photo of that figure in the book of the film even though he won't be appearing in an actual set. I suppose better pics of the ship set will help us get a clearer idea as to which of those alternatives is correct.- 2,626 replies
