  1. Bag End, Bag End, Bag End. One of the greatest lego sets I've seen in 35 years or so of being a fan of the bricks.
  2. It's an iconic lego set of an iconic Batman location. It's a great build, looks fantastic when it's done, has great minifigs and some really nice details. It's also a lot of fun to play with. I got it last Christmas, and it's been a favourite with my kids and me ever since. Even if some of the minifigs variants are released next year, it doesn't stop the ones in the set being worth getting. And you can tinker with it too - change the cell bars for glass panels, alter the guard's desk, that kind of thing.
  3. There are some wonderful factions here, but for me, without question it's ...... Black Falcons.
  4. Great pictures, small set, big price. I'll definitely be waiting till it's on sale before I even consider buying it.
  5. "Wow, that's... eh.." Yep. It is a very impressive bit of printing though. I just can't get round the fact he's not a massive guy with dark hair like he is in the books. Maybe the answer's to do a minor MOC using the body, a suitable head and the CMF caveman black hair and beard. Or Hagrid of course. "To those worried about Thranduil's ears being too low based on the initial images we saw: it looks much better in person. I don't see the problem." Whoohoo. Great figure.
  6. That's a good-looking hat/hairpiece combo for Gandalf on the game add - I made something similar by cutting down and painting a Thorin hairpiece, but a proper one would be great. He's also got a new top to his staff, which I think can be made using that new round piece with a inset on top and bottom. Would be a couple of excellent improvements to the now very, very familiar Gandalf figure. The game will finally mean we update our console though, as the age of the Wii seems to be over. So it will be an unexpectedly expensive journey.
  7. No supposedly about it - my kids' arrived yesterday and was being examined over breakfast this morning.
  8. DS gunners are long over-due, and now they've arrived, they're fantastic. Well done TLG.
  9. Why can't this be a hair piece over a standard head which has some tan hair printed on it as well? The inset area that would be being printed if it was all one piece would be very hard to get right, and the colour consistency with the arms would be tricky too. So I'm going for the "it's a normal head" vote. But to be honest, I'm not so bothered either way - if we have to have an always fierce Beorn that's okay unless you want to MOC him doing his beekeeping, but then you'll have to have it when he's just been stung.
  10. I went for some too to update our Luke (using the latest Snow Speeder head) and Gold Leader. They're fantastic figures - the printing is wonderful, especially the orange goggles. The flare cartridges and harness straps on the legs make them just about perfect IMO.
  11. Well I've got my favourites, but the more I see of this range, the more I like it. Great idea to have some alternate builds in amongst them. Even if it was pretty obvious with the whole " baddies want to glue lego to fix it forever in place, goodies want freedom to wild style build" it's a great play idea, and will have my kids in a state of total delight. For my part, I want that ice cream van, Metalbeard, and the Wild West glider set. And the laser lab thing. And the bike and police SWAT truck. And that police hover car.
  12. A lovely MOC Nemo. It put a huge smile on my face. Back to work now...
  13. This ship is one of Britain's and India's great maritime treasures, and deserves to be much better known. Built by an Indian master shipwright to British specifications as part of a ship-building program set up during the wars with France, it is a thing of great beauty and huge historic significance.
  14. These are some lovely minifigs. They look so good, they remind me of the brilliant metal figures produced by the Perry twins. Only in tiny plastic form. I might change all the faces to be consistent, but otherwise, I'll be copying them soon. Great stuff.
  15. Impressive, imposing and inspired. Great mecha - literally and metaphorically. Well done!
  16. That's a great cop figure. Much better than the highway cop from the CMF range. Cool new helmet.
  17. It's another crazily inspired piece of design. Not sure I can see myself getting it at full price, but I can certainly admire the imagination that brings it to us. Can't wait to see the rest.
  18. Thanks for the pics, Slim. The Penguin set is great: super new print for Penguin and the Scuba Batman is a great addition to the Batmen range; and their vehicles are small and perfectly formed. I'll definitely be getting it. The Batcopter on the other hand is a bit limp I think: Nightwing's weird face print; Manbat being a bit past it thanks to the earlier giant bats we've seen already; and Nightwing's glider being like something made out of a spares box on a rainy afternoon. I can see why TLG produced a Batcopter set, and I'm sure it'll sell well, but it doesn't quite cut it for me - it doesn't have that level of excellence that the Penguin set does.
  19. "But it is a good dream"
  20. That'll be Shakespeare then. You know, the guy you can hear spinning in his grave in Stratford because one of his fellow countrymen didn't recognise a tiny plastic cartoon version of him. :-)
  21. I love this wave. True, there are a couple that are a bit too similar to earlier incarnations like Grandma, Mermaid and Mexican but I suppose that's kind of a circular argument because the movie characters are based on some existing minifigs. Also true that No Pants Guy isn't taken out of context that exciting a minifig, but come on, it's a pretty funny idea, and that's the joy of the series isn't it? It's like what they've done with Octan: trouserless lego figure + using long established innocuous brand as evil mega villain = funny. You look at the range, it makes you smile: it's a fun, absurd, silly series. Even if you happen to disagree, there are some fantastic minifigs in their own right in amongst them - Abe, Shakespeare, the robots... Great work TLG.
  22. That is so true. He's fine, and accurate to the game, but c'mon TLG at least reuse the CMF werewolf legs. Maybe he's got an alternate expression with the mouth closed. That would make it better.
  23. For rough and readys, these are looking like some pretty good sets aren't they? Remember how very rough the LOTR ones were that leaked before wave 1 was seen? And compare the rough images of the figures with the photos of the real things that have surfaced recently. If these ones are just as rough an impression of the final thing, I think we're in line for some great-looking sets come 2014. The figure range looks pretty good: Manbat should have the CMF wings IMO because he's usually portrayed as having arms turned to wings rather than getting a pair sprouting out of his back, and although you can make a near perfect version using the MF brown manbat and the CMF werewolf legs, it's nice to get an official one. Batgirl, new Nightwing and Joker in his hat are great additions. I'm just hoping we'll eventually get the updated Alfred so many of us hope for, and Clayface. As for the vehicles, the standout ones for me are the Batcopter, Penguin duckboat and the Joker steamroller. They're full of character. And they haven't been done to death already. I don't care for the Riddler's Mario cart, I don't need another Batmobile (especially not one with an orange windscreen) although with some colour changes it would make for a great car for Nightwing, and I don't want another Batwing even though it has that same slightly steampunky/art deco cool that the Naboo starfighter has with the front-loaded wing line. I am lucky enough to have the Batmobile and Batwing from the original Batman line. They're still my favourites, and my kids like them more than the more recent sets. If I hadn't got them, the versions from Superheros wave 1 would have been great alternatives, and we'd be very happy to have them. I don't see why there needs to be 2 more variants in this wave when there are so many other great vehicles to base sets around (if they have to be based around them rather than a building). For my part, I would love Lex's flying heli-circle-VTOL-contraption from the DC Superheroes game.
  24. Although it's been said many times, many ways: this is fantastic - great build, beautiful model, and a perfect realisation of the source material. It would be THE way to end the LOTR line. Well done.
  25. This is lovely. It would make for a fantastic set, and is a great template for medieval or Middle-Earth buildings. Looking forward to seeing more! Keep up the great work.
