  1. I've done a fair share of small boats - mine usually start with a 1x1 keel with some SNOT/travis bricks to hold the sides together in it and work up from there with a bunch of curved slopes. Here's the original and a bunch of variations on it (one of them even a micro longship - you probably want it a bit bigger though ) This one's slightly different - quite different actually, as I had to modify it significantly to work in the port holes. You won't need those, of course, but if you removed those you might be able to do something with the curves it gives you It starts with a tiled studs-up keel instead of snotted. I know Bregir's done something a little similar to my first design but elongated a good deal more for a gunboat or something of the sort - might want to look that up if these don't end up long enough!
  2. Very nice harbor scene, JSB, but that ship is a beauty! I've never built an open gun-deck vessel (that I can recall, anyways ) but you're seriously tempting me to it! The color-scheme, rigging, and curves are all gorgeous, and your sails really do the part too, furled and unfurled. Lovely work all around!
  3. Fun story and fantastic build and photography! The stonework and the lighting are great, and the pic really does look like a render The Alleyway also sounds like a great place to get irrelevant secret information that was not intended for you
  4. A long overdue update to the Intrigue thread has finally been entered upon the guild chronicles by the dust old scribes of the realm! And congrats to the Moccenigo family for a well-deserved place up there on the rankings!
  5. The recent events (I say recent, but it was a while ago now, I must admit - the ancient chroniclers of the guild appear to have fallen into a doze in their extreme age and aren't quite on the top of their game right now... ) have certainly shaken the realm of Varlyrio, both above and below the surface, but in the end it was the di Carlo and De Cioto families that emerged on top once again and stronger than ever from the intrigue. The Moccenigo family's meteor rise into the public eye ,unhappy for them ended rather out of the public's favor, and the De Fiori's inactivity in the guild's affairs have not brought them any more esteem in the political sphere, but their are certainly debts to be paid at some point or another that will not be more genial for the interest of quiet but deep and deadly revenge accrued... Varlyrian Family Ranking (update): Leading Family (Rego): di Carlo, Rego of Varlyrio, merchants (@ZlatanXVIGustaf)Secondary Families: De Cioto, aristocrats and gold-hunters (@W Navarre), Amancio, shipmasters (@Rogue Angel), Lords of Baiamonte, soldiery (unclaimed family)Third rank: Moccenigo, architects (@TalusMoonbreaker), Chiaro, merchants (unclaimed family), Conzaga, wine-makers (@Basiliscus), De Fiori, sword-makers (@Garmadon)Fourth rank: Fifth rank: D'Gatto, artists and antiquarians (@mccoyed), Khaor, cloth and leather merchants, tailors (@narbilu)Sixth rank: Waythe, judge and mercenary (@Judge of the Wastelands)
  6. This is probably my favorite chapter yet - just hilarious! The Decennial Duck is great, but the Marquis' speedboat is even better!
  7. Lovely presentation with the jungle blurred away in the background and excellent color choices all around too! And welcome to Eslandola, great to have you!
  8. Build a ship with dark blue and gold highlights on a dark brown hull and I'm fairly sure to love it, and this certainly is no exception! The rigging and curves are lovely as well, and the stern area is just beautiful (do those windows actually come in gold? If they do I totally need some!! ) Fantastic work, mate!
  9. Aaahh! That Colonel Sully is hilarious - perfect choice of expression, Captain! Those arkebusiers are great as well (they look very professional), and the squat cannon is wonderful!
  10. This is quite neat, always love seeing things like this in BoBS - everybody's got a spyglass, so somebody has to be making them! And there are some great and some hilarious designs mixed in there too! Love that stonework on the lower part especially, really nicely done!
  11. Love it! The busyness and activity in the cantina is great, and of course the Marquis would take home all the winnings. The guy trying to pay with his Gwuinee is hilarious as well! As for the story, can't wait to see what happens next!!! It sounds exciting (anything with Captain Cookie in it always is, )
  12. I love snow - what can I say? We definitely don't see enough of it in BoBS, but you've done a fantastic job with it here! The dark orange is brilliant too and those new torsos work beautifully for Altonia - lovely job all around, and I'm definitely coming back here for inspiration if I ever get enough dark orange to do a scene like this!
  13. Gorgeous motorcycle! The chroming is superb and adds so much, and the shaping overall is amazing. Wonderful job, and well-deserved frontpaging!
  14. Those little trees are so cute! Excellent use of the circular plates too
  15. Very nice, one of my favorites of yours for sure! The rigging and stern are superb, and I've actually always liked these plate sails in Stud.io Excellent job, mate!
  16. Love that teal soo much! The lime and dark brown are some really bold color choices as well but wow do they work here! Lovely job.
  17. Great introduction to a character I'm looking forward to seeing more of! The general having lost both his arms definitely took me by surprise too - hilarious, and great little twist there! I'm intrigued by the hint at the background story too, and a warm welcome to BoBS!
  18. Ah, so nice! I love huge micro builds, especially when they are so very well done! The layout of your buildings is great, and there's an awesome variety of plants and trees and elevation in the landscape, and altogether it makes for a really excellent build. Great job, mate!
  19. This honestly just looks like so much fun! Great job and presentation, and love that use of the chain at the front!
  20. Really like the lines of this ship, and that pic of the deck at the end, And you're very much making me wish that ice cream scoops came in trans-orange right now! If I've got one nitpick, it's be that the topsail looks quite tall to me (and consequently the entire mast looks a bit oversized), but other than that this is a really beautiful vessel and definitely hugely impressive for your first ship! Fantastic job, and I'm very much looking forward to more from you!
  21. Or maybe instead of paying with doubloons you could just pay with tulip certificates? Yes, what an excellent idea! And my are those tulips really starting to get expensive too! Captain Whiffo is very happy to have got his back at the start of all this now!
  22. Can't say how much I love this idea and your execution of it! Absolutely brilliant idea to make the lore of Historica the wonder in itself and the Books pun is just too good! Loved the story as well, and the clutter and faces of those scribes at their work are perfectly done too! Great stuff!
  23. I haven't commented on this yet?! Love it! So hilarious and well written, and I'm finally starting to see how everything ties together now! Can't wait to see more!!
  24. Some great minifigs and it's always fantastic to see more families and life in Varlyrio! Awesome job on the backstories, and I hope to get some time to build for Varlyrio a bit more before too long (tm ), and it's just possible that we may have a common enemy... maybe... Where's the torso for Ristoro from? I don't recall having seen it before but it looks amazing!
  25. Sheep!!! As the othes have mentioned, the irregular base and the use of slopes in the build is great, and that tree works really very nicely as well!
