bought it now awaiting the actual physical book. PDFs are great and all, but I like real books when building, standing next to my instruction booklets.

I'm still happy they gave us the short blue cape, error or not - it will look great on Thorin Oakenshield. I'll give a call to customer service tomorrow.

No More Elrond Minifigures Available?!?
SheepEater replied to Deathleech's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
My Elrond actually has dark green printing on the part of the torso that is dark blue on the polybag. So , Eomer's dark green cape from my second 9471 looks better on him that a long dark blue cape would have. And on my 2nd 9471, I switched minifig parts to have a generic Rohan horseman and Archer captain, giving me that extra dark green cape to use. I'll give that short dark blue cape on Thorin like many others suggested. So, if you have two 9471s and plan to get all Hobbit sets, and have a Dark Green printed Elrond like I have, everything works out even better than if LEGO did give out a dark blue long cape. Funny how we're arguing like little girls playing with their dolls and their accessories- 146 replies

The simplest and yet most complex LEGO set of all...

Meh. Set looks boring as heck. -
Lego lotr elrond minifigure designer video
SheepEater replied to Kez's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Great idea!  But it would be even harder than trying to reproduce the alternate models on the back of old 80s and 90s lego sets... no instructions, but at least the photos were clear and sometimes we'd get more than one photo of the same creation.- 11 replies

It's interesting that both 8404 and 4207 were named as AFOLs oriented sets... they are the only large City (actually named CITY) sets I have bought since the 7905 tower crane from 2006, and those three are the only large city sets I own from the 2000s and beyond (10159 does NOT count as a 2000s set).

Fantastic. That Dark Blue color was MADE to be used in Cobra MOCs.

Can LEGO be damaged by heat/cold extremes?
SheepEater replied to Hyun's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I left one of my large sets (dismantled and bagged inside its box) on a moderately warm sound system for 2 months. The sound system is an old but big CD/cassette player with large speakers. I turn it on whenever my computer is on then turn it off for the night. At the end of a 8 hour session the top is quite warm. When I saw how warm the lego box was, I immediately used something thick to but between the box and the sound system. But do you think the bricks were warped? I'm gonna have to rebuild the set just to find out, the worry is killing me. Well, nm then, by searching I found that this topic answered my question nicely. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=58493&hl=warping#entry1041910- 77 replies

I suspect Lego is thinking that we AFOLs City fans get our buildings fix from Creator/Modulars so they don't need to devote as many actual "City" sets to us, hence the over-abundance of Police/Fire in the actual "City" theme.

Good observation Deathleech. I just checked my two 9471s (my first 9471 bought when they came out in late May, the 2nd one in late september) and my 2 Eomers differ just like yours. The new Eomer head's stud has holes; the rest of my flesh LOTR heads are fully studded, including the second Rohirrim archer. Not sure whether that's good or bad though.

Nice review. This is one my fav sets from the 90s. Here is 8094's plotter built with 8485 parts, and modded with a 3rd motor to lift&lower the pen. I remember having to add quite a few more gears (8t mostly) as the 8485 didn't have enough. 8094 robotic arm made with 8485 + about 100 more parts http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=301207 8094 crane made with 8485 + about 100 more parts http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=98193

No More Elrond Minifigures Available?!?
SheepEater replied to Deathleech's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I pre-ordered it from my local TRU in september, getting mine next week and have reserved my fig on the phone. Apparently they have loads of them. Good thing I didn't order from Gamestop USA. (Ebgames.ca never listed the minifig at all so I went to TRU)- 146 replies

After buying Lucasfilm, Disney now goes for Hasbro
SheepEater replied to Artifex's topic in Community
It's NOT good news. The minute they own Hasbro, you can expect Lego Star Wars to end and Kre-O Star Wars to begin. -
It will be interesting in 10-15 years to see if many of those little girls who got lots of Friends sets will grow up to be AFOLs in their twenties. And bidding against each other on eBay for old, rare discontinued 2012 Friends sets. Lots of grown women are into collecting dolls. I saw a thick fashion doll magazine (clearly aimed at adults) yesterday in a mainstream magazine shop, but never saw anything aimed at AFOLs.

It's NOT terrible. In fact, it's a great and successful toy aimed at girls, so whether boys like it or not is irrelevant to Lego. I have no kids, but my 8 year old niece loved her sets so much she took pictures of them and sent them to me. Prior to that, she liked to play with Lego when I would build City sets with her older brother, but wanted no sets for her own really. Lego's aim with the line was to steal sales from Polly Pockets, and they have been hugely successful at that. Benjo, one of a local big toy store in Quebec City (not TRU) has a big Friends display and zilch Polly Pockets - I am guessing that this big shelf space or at least part of it used to belong to Polly Pockets. No wonder Mattel is angered at Lego enough to partner with Mega Bloks.

$100 for Isengard is cheaper than a flagship set. So I'm still hoping for a Gondor flagship set in 2013.

Maybe the Treebeard set will feature a second generic Ent soldier.

I just started a new job today, so .... I say bring out the sets. Lego, shut up and take my money I'll probably get Bag End as soon as I see it, and the rest in January, once sales start to turn up.

That's exactly what I'm gonna do. My first 9471 does have a caped Eomer and generic Rohirrim archer, the official set build. My 2nd 9471 has an "Archer captain" (Eomer face & helm, green torso, eomer chainmail legs) and "generic Rohirrim horseman" (Archer face & helm, red torso, archer legs) Gonna give the blue cape to Thorin when I get him.

Well, the absence of a jack makes no sense at first sight, but it's very hard to fit a car on the jack without it stepping out of the bounds.
-
Completely worthy of John Howe! The iconic scene in the movie was 100% inspired by his picture. (He was heavily involved with Peter Jackson, as you may know)
-
I also pre-bought this part to add to my 4207, and once I built it, I understood why Lego didn't include one: it's very hard to fit the car in that tiny space without the bumper touching the elevator when it goes up/down, and if you place the jack too far to the right, you can't pull the lever all the way down due to the fence... still I'm happy with the way I placed it.
