  1. When I came out of my dark ages in 2002, after buying 30-40 technic sets in the span of 2 months (including the short-lived technic star wars sets), I realized I needed to span out a bit more so I started collecting Town sets(aka City, plus Trains), also some racers which sometimes blur the line with both Technic and Town/City themes. Only in 2012 did I start collecting other themes but Technic/Town: Lord of the Rings (bought the entire 2012 LOTR + Hobbit waves). I had read the books before the Peter Jackson movies even came out. I was never into Castle before so that in turn motivated me to buy a very high rated castle set (Medieval Market Village) How about you?
  2. Great article, but you should change your link to page 1. http://www.businessweek.com/news/2013-03-13/lego-builds-new-billionaires-as-toymaker-topples-mattel#p1
  3. Thanks for your kind words. My goal with this mod was to make it as simple as possible, with basic bricks, so that everybody (that was disappointed with the set) can reproduce it themselves.
  4. Hi I just built this set and although I like the parts, minifigs & design, I am disappointed with the spider silk. Both of mine that came with the set are torn! Those things are WAY too brittle. It's impossible for anybody, let alone a young child, to play with it without it tearing it. Why couldn't they just use regular white thread like they did with the LOTR Shelob set?
  5. 8 months, 7 pages and nobody really discussed the original subject of the topic I'll be blunt: do you think Fili & Kili will die at the battle of the five armies. Knowing Peter Jackson, their survival is plausible. After all, Azog lives, and in his LOTR movies Haldir dies.
  6. Great little MOC. Not it makes me hungry to eat some of my "Ham Potatoes" recipe (For those curious, this recipe is mashed potatoes mixed with diced ham, rolled in balls, dipped in breading & eggs, fried in a pan and with tomato soup poured on it)
  7. Thanks! I just noticed a small error here.. The dark gray inverted 1x1 slope with skull on it should be 1 stud further (where the goblin is standing). I corrected it on my set but didn't feel like taking another photo. EDIT: Here is the corrected setup. 79010mod_13 by SheepEater, on Flickr
  8. Well, like many of you, I'm of the opinion that LEGO should have made the components of this set connected, like the Helm's Deep + Uruk Hai army sets. But I bought this set with this fully in mind, and managed to build it the way I wanted on my very first build. Anyone can do this, all you need is 3 hinge bricks, 2 corner plates, a few small technic bricks and several other basic bricks. This mod improves the set tenfold, like the 48x48 gray baseplate improves the Mines of Moria set tenfold... 79010mod_01 by SheepEater, on Flickr 79010mod_02 by SheepEater, on Flickr 79010mod_03 by SheepEater, on Flickr 79010mod_04 by SheepEater, on Flickr 79010mod_05 by SheepEater, on Flickr 79010mod_06 by SheepEater, on Flickr 79010mod_07 by SheepEater, on Flickr 79010mod_08 by SheepEater, on Flickr 79010mod_09 by SheepEater, on Flickr 79010mod_10 by SheepEater, on Flickr 79010mod_11 by SheepEater, on Flickr 79010mod_12 by SheepEater, on Flickr 79010mod_13 by SheepEater, on Flickr 79010mod_14 by SheepEater, on Flickr 79010mod_15 by SheepEater, on Flickr 79010mod_16 by SheepEater, on Flickr These were the bricks I had to leave out to make room for my hinge bricks and technic bricks. 79010mod_17 by SheepEater, on Flickr http://www.flickr.co...964105876/show/
  9. Ori is boring, but that's not Lego's fault, that's how PJ & crew designed the character. True, but the mods give me warning if I bump old threads
  10. Guys! I'm building the Goblin town set right now for the first time. But I am connecting EVERY piece of the set, like they should have done. I have finished book 2 (ramp w/ wheel, ramp w/ catapult + throne) and everything is neatly connected with basic hinge bricks, which I happened to have tons of in dark gray. Only basic bricks are needed, nothing fancy. Once I'm done I'm taking pics. I had to do a few minor modifications to the first 2 parts so that it both articulations can swivel in a big enough arc. The set will be awesome once I'm finished. The hinge bricks + technic bricks + technic pins improve the set tenfold, like the large baseplate improved the mines of moria set. Now... to build the final parts of the set, bridge + crane. I might use technic bricks wih pins instead of hinge bricks. We'll see. But I WILL connect every part of the set together. EDIT: The bridge part will be even better. Linked it with a hinge brick AND a technic brick/plate connection so it can be detached. Loved it so much that I redid the exact same with the catapult+ramp part
  11. Really? I`ve seen Chapters and Indigo stores in downtown Montreal and they don't sell toys at all.
  12. Question for the non-QC provinces: We quebeckers have a large book/toy chain called Renaud-Bray, which is identical to USA's Barnes & Nobles (Books and Toys), only the books are mostly in french obviously for the former. What do you have that fills that niche? Also... Got the entire Hobbit theme at TRU about 9 days ago - 20% off with NO markup - yay! Some little boy was eyeing the big stack of boxes I was carrying to the counter... "Wow mister you are buying lots of Legos!" (translated from french)

  14. Too bad we don't have any Target where I live (yet) http://www.target.co...term=hobbit blu Thanks to The_Chosen_1 for reporting this (In the Culture & multimedia forum, The Hobbit movie discussion)
  15. Interesting - thanks for reporting it!
  16. Local shop owners start frowning when they see you because they know they can never make much profit from you, because you know the MSRP of every Lego set that interests you along with every local sale, and they know they can never make a profit from you with the tiny margin LEGO allows them to have.
  17. Got the entire Hobbit theme at once (it was on sale) 2 weeks prior, I've gotten technic sets 9396 (the big yellow helicopter) and the 9398 (4x4 crawler)

  19. EDIT: Faefrost beat me to it
  20. So was the Corsair ship in ROTK, and yet...
  21. I agree with Aanchir and AndyC. Those look like crap. I thought for years that the only way for Lego to do it is to redesign the torso, and as pointed out, it would make them incompatible with the othe regular figs, and older short figs.
  22. - A large construction site with bulldozers, excavators and cranes - A factory with forklifts, workers, conveyors, and a loading bay for trucks and train - A military force complete with tanks, aircraft carriers and anti-aircraft missile sites - A kindergarten or day-care center, featuring for the first time, young children mini-dolls
