  1. Pretty grim and dark. I like to see MOCs that Lego would never dare to produce for fear of scaring the poor little children.
  2. Keep em coming! I will keep updating the list. I saw a huge model of the upper minas tirith (with tree, upper palace and white tower) posted here not long ago. I can't find it, would anyone find it for me?
  3. I'm not sure what to think yet about this news, but for what it's worth, I hope they 1) Fix all the bugs. This site is obsolete and has been for a long time. 2) ADVERTISE the site on google and other places. I'm not talking about banners IN the site. I'm talking about Bricklink banners everywhere else among the online lego fan community! Whenever I talk to people in toy stores they have NEVER heard of bricklink. When I do google searches for "old lego" bricklink doesn't even show up in the results. Bricklink STILL doesn't have a wikipedia page. It's only way to know about it is STILL via word of mouth!
  4. Thanks very much. Sure, if you can give me some more pointers. Yesterday evening I tried to fix all of my flicker links but it messed up my post severely in the process and for some reason lost many of my links, including all of my existing Orthanc and Mount Doom ones. I wish I kept a backup.
  5. Thanks! Hey mods can you please pin my LOTR MOC Index topic to the top? http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=83122
  6. How do I post just a simple link to a flickr gallery without it making it a slideshow by default?
  7. Lord of the Rings is a fantastic theme. Yeah, me having read the book in 1996-1998, a few years before the movies came out and I returning to Lego (2002) probably has a lot to do with me being infatuated and passionnate about this Lego theme like I've never been since... 2002. The theme is great not just because Lego got a license and produced excellent sets, but because of the hard work and commitment of all the fans who didn't wait around for Lego sets and built for themselves LOTR MOCs for the last ten years (maybe even earlier than that... though as far I know no records show of LOTR mocs built before 2002). Those MOCs were the only thing remotely keeping me interested in the Castle theme, because I never dug the Castle sets produced by Lego, even when I was a kid in the 80s. Since there is currently no Lord of the Rings MOC index I propose to create one... with a twist. I believe I have seen most, if not all of the movie's major scenes redone in Lego mocs over the years. So I want the index to be chronological to the story. There will probably be 15 or so Helm's Deep's...so be it. They will all be listed next to each other. There will only be links, otherwise the page will be too large or take too long to load. The goal is basically to show every scene in the ENTIRE story done in Lego, in a single topic. I'll update this first post periodically with all the links to MOCs posted on this thread, and I'll have the job of arranging them chronologically - you can trust me on that, I'm re-reading the book as we speak and I've seen the trilogy at least 6 times. One of you doubted my tolkien-geekdom last year when I didn't remember who Gil-Galad was, I'm sorry about that. He is mentioned quite often in the beginning chapters but a long time had passed since I originally read the book in the 90s. You've gotta help me though - I have a full time job, and can't find them all by myself. PM me, or post the links here! Let's begin! Some scenes focus on the capture of Gandalf, others on the attack of the Ents. I'll place all Isengard MOCs together at the beginning of The Two Towers, since it's one of the titular Two Towers, though the action can takes place anytime in the first two movies/books.
  8. I didn't know Elrond and Tauriel fought at Helm's Deep
  9. Very nice set but I'm not into Star Wars. Maybe I should buy it, sell all the minifigs on Bricklink then convert the village into a Lord of the Rings Lothlorien.
  10. None of them. Never mind the dust, being assembled for too long stresses some of the parts.
  11. Great topic. I always meant to do the same thing with mine. Glad to see it requires very few extra pieces.
  12. I have read the book, and let me spoil you: he's a supposedly powerful (he never gets to fight in the book) elf lord of Elrond's house who comes to help the company after Frodo is stabbed by the witch king, right before the flight to the ford part. Replaced in the movie by Arwen. In the book, Arwen only shows up in Rivendell, and has no dialogue at all. Glorfindel has some dialogue in Rivendell, then completely disappears from the story. I hear he has a bigger role in other Tolkien books and was actually strong enough to battle demons one-on-one. He lends Frodo his horse, but doesn't ride with him, making Frodo quite a bit more heroic to stand up to the 9 Nazgul all alone.
  13. This. Not just Minas Tirith, but the entire war going on around it ... witch king, mumakils, Osgiliath.
  14. All of mine except 1 have these. Bought the entire 2012 wave when it came out, and bought 1 extra 9471 in september 2012
  15. Sure, why not? He was in there for a short while in the middle of the movie after all. As for Denethor, I highly doubt we'll ever see him in minifigure form. His character arc is WAY too dark for kids, he's too unlikeable, he's neither a hero nor a clear-cut villain, and doesn't feature in any action scene. Even the videogame designers steered clear of him in the storyline.
  16. Agree with your whole post, but I also want Faramir. And let's not forget that there is NO WAY Lego will risk creating a wave without Gandalf, Frodo + Aragorn each making at least 1 appearance - the primary target is kids and Lego wants to make sure kids, who might not collect sets from every year let alone every set in a wave, have access to the main characters. So... my list: - A brick-built Treebeard with Merry, Pippin, Grishnak - A balrog set with Gandalf and Moria Orcs - A Minas Tirith set with Gandalf the White, and an army builder extender set - A witch King + Eowyn + Merry set. - A Mount Doom set. Otherwise we won't see Frodo, Sam or Gollum at all in that wave. - A Pelennor Fields based Mumakil set with Aragorn, Legolas and (maybe) Gimli. Otherwise we won't see them at all in that wave. That hardly leaves room for Faramir, unless they do a set with him and Frodo & Sam instead of Mount Doom.
  17. Hilarious review! I especially like the Justin Bieber comparison My 8 year old niece loves the Friends sets she has, and was excited about this yacht when it was announced in the winter, but I'm not sure how disappointed she'll be that the ship doesn't float. I remember noticing that Peter from last year had larger arms than the females. This boy seems not to. It would be interesting to have a side-to-side comparison.
  18. ^ Agreed. The all-black nature also makes it much easier to modify from existing pieces of my collection; rather than, say, a hypothetical similar sized set made all of dark orange or dark blue.
  19. Ahh, no worries. I see where you're coming from, no need to apologize. I posted an identical topic on a music related board (and I'm the only AFOL there) and let's just say it didn't go over very well, especially among parents. Many insults later, I expect to be banned in that forum in the following days. Ah, well.
  20. Many of them look at me weird too. But then again, I also am pretty tall and intimidating for some (bald, 6'5", not skinny) On the other hand I am quick to point out that I have been a Lego collector for a long time, and when I do they appreciate the advice (especially on where to get the discontinued sets, or where to get each set at the best price).
  21. I'm not sure I get it... flaky, as in an unreliable person? Unreliable people can't keep a job long enough to have the income to buy the quantity of Lego I do buy. That's pretty much what I did when I bought the entire Hobbit wave in one go. "Wow mister, you're buying lots of Legos!!" Why would you be annoyed at kids (behaving like kids) in a toy shop? Toys primarily meant for kids
  22. I posted the same topic in another message board that is completely unrelated to Lego or toys and it didn't go over very well. So, my apologies if I come across as creepy - not my intention. One of them made me chuckle with his reply, though. ---- Kid: Mom, I am tired of looking at the dolls, can I go check out the Legos Mother: Not until your sister is done picking out a doll Kid: But I am 8 years old and it’s right over there Mother: You see that man over there in the black tee shirt? He’s a stranger, the kind of stranger that I warned you and your sister about. I am not letting you out of my sight Kid: But Moooooom….. Mother: No buts about it, I am not letting you out of my sight with that strange man wandering around over there. ----
  23. This discussion is for both the movies and the book. (... and the Lego videogame while we're at it...) I included lots of characters in the poll but in my opinion it's really between Frodo, Aragorn and Sam. You can pick more than 1 character. Frodo Sam Aragorn Gandalf Pippin Merry Legolas Gimli Gollum Elrond Arwen Boromir Faramir King Theoden Eowyn Eomer Bilbo (old) Galadriel Tom Bombadil Haldir
  24. Unless I adopt, that would be highly unlikely
  25. Do you enjoy it when kids are crying and begging their parents for Lego sets when you're browsing the Lego section? They might be annoying to some but I find it hilarious. Especially when the parents look tired, annoyed and exhausted, having already spent most of the day shopping, and CLEARLY, going to the toy aisle is just a chore for them, while it's a hobby for me. Boy: "Mommy! I want this one!" Mom: "Would you BE QUIET! You already got one like this last christmas. Besides that one is too expensive." Boy: "BUT MOM! IT'S GOT DARTH VADER IN IT!" Mom: "Hush!" His little sister, sitting in the shopping cart: "Naah naah nah-nah! Mommy, let's go to see the dolls!" --- They go to the girls aisle --- Girl: "I want this one!" Boy: "Mom! If she can get that one why can't I get the Lego set I want!" --- Mom acts exasperated --- Someday I'm gonna prank one of these exhausted parents like this: Boy: *points at 50$ set* "Mom! Can I have this one?" Me: Nah, you don't want that one. *Fetches a big 110$ set* THAT one is wayy better - it's what I got my nephew, he won't stop playing with it!" Boy: "Mom! I want that big set!" Mom: "No! It's too expensive! Won't you quiet down?" *The mom gives me an angry look and thinks to herself:" Thanks a lot *******, now he won't stop bugging me about that set for months. I get as much fun going to the toy shop to see this scenario predictably repeat itself, as I do actually browsing the sets I want.
