I'd say bring on a large $500 Minas Tirith set! Even if it replaces an entire wave :excited:

I was there when the café corner came out and never regretted passing on it - IMHO it's extremely overrated, it's just a boring, big empty box compared to what came after it. I got the Green Grocer and love it, but its 2nd and 3rd floors were mostly empty. This one is filled to the brim with details!
-
To this day, the Green Grocer is the only modular I own because it made me go "wow. I gotta buy this one" upon seeing it. That one may be my 2nd. a big LOL at the guy proposing to his girlfriend with The One Ring to rule them all! A kneeling minifig, I think this hasn't been done since that set I got as a kid!

Hey! Is that the new restaurant modular? It looks awesome So do the scooter, btw

Specific... as long as specific stands for Lord of the Rings. -
The Black Gate of Mordor (expanded set)
SheepEater replied to Karlson's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Hi! I stumbled upon this thread and I'd like to share in my experience. - Bought my 2nd black gate on eBay without minifigs for cheap. Got the 2 missing orcs on BrickLink (plus a 2008 orc) along with two cheap "Gondor Soldiers". . Also got a few more accessories on BrickLink. Aragorn uses Anduril (a chrome Lego greatsword) so I gave his basic sword to the soldier. Got a bow, a shield, and orc hairpiece and an armor for the orcs, and a silver spear + shield for the gondorians. - Found an excellent LXF file of the extended black gate on www.lordofthebrick.com , it looks familiar to the topic creator's, maybe the topic creator submitted it to them? Anyway, thanks guys! I had to somewhat modify it, though. It lacked many of the recent parts, and I had to retool the SNOT front plates a bit so that I could fit in the door knobs so that it could look more like the official build. - This is the set exactly as it appear in my room, minifigs positioned like that.... except for the two orcs that are on each tower, I can't fit them there on LDD, so they are right on the back. And Gandalf's cape won't fit in LDD, either. Black Gate LXF file Minifigs only -

I would rather get NO generic castle sets at all so they concentrate on LOTR. Gondor stuff would easily outclass anything than can come up with on the new castle line, if this year`s castle sets are any indication.

Yep. It changed owners a couple of times, actually. Erector used to be a separate company from Meccano. Nowadays Erector is just a different brand name for their products sold in the USA. With that said, they could at least try harder. Imagine if the Kristiansen family bought the company. They would probably replicate all the existing Technic functionality in metal. We can dream

Found this very interesting article about the subject. http://www.nzmeccano.com/Whatsup2.php The last comment made me lol. I have just been trying to help my 8 year old assemble the "Push Bike" model in the "5 Model Set". Very difficult with vague instructions for only three of the five models. My sons comment. "This is junk, I'd much rather play with my Lego." Sad but true Maccano has lost the plot.

Nothing I've seen in stores comes even close to featuring the parts necessary to build the magnificent MOCs I've seen enthusiasts (mostly older men in their 50s - 60s) bring to in toy fairs. Huge mechanized contraptions, real steam engines, etc. Apparently in the 60s and 70s there used to be giant kits that featured all kinds of beams, gears, and interesting parts. Nowadays it's all crappy, overpriced small toys with little to mechanisms. When have they started sucking so hard?

[MOD] 8258
SheepEater replied to Rishab N's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
If I ever build this guy again (from my existing parts... I never bought the set), I will try to fix its most glaring flaws. Completely motorizing the outriggers, and completely motorizing the crane (extension + winch) -

Love it! Did you build it from two 8285s? Or one 8285 with extra parts? -

LOTR Orcs, Goblins & Trolls vs 2008 Orcs and Trolls

Minifigures: LOTR Orcs and goblins come in good color variety (dark tan orcs/goblins, green moria orcs and dark red uruk hais) but with few color variation in weapon & armor (mostly pearl dark gray). 2008 Orcs only came in sand green, but had more body print variations and a very good weapon and armor selection, having silver and bronze weapons and helmets, and a few different kinds of helmets. Large figures: 2008 Trolls were all identical, with the only difference being plastic color (tan or sand green) and print color. LOTR / Hobbit only have the cave troll and goblin king, but they are completely unique. Which do you prefer?

.. the problem is that I still use their house to store 75% of my collection.

Hi I think this is an appropriate topic to post this... My mom never liked that I spent so much on Lego and is visiting my appartment next week. She always nags I've got more than enough Lego and that I don't need to buy anymore. (I'm in my 30s and haven't lived with my parents since I was 19, BTW) Now my parents haven't visited my appartment in a year so obviously I bought tons of sets since then (LOTR, The Hobbit), all displayed proudly in my room. To put you in context, I never owned any castle sets before, or sets with so many gray and black bricks. (I was collecting Technic/City mostly) I've come up with a counter argument for the conversation that I expect is gonna happen. NOTE: Obviously the boxes have to be either hidden or thrown out. Mom: You bought all these Lego sets? Me: Oh those? I built them with instructions downloaded from the Lego site. (LIE) Mom: With the Lego you already own? Me: Yup Outcome 1: Mom: Don't lie, you don't have anything remotely like those. Me: Ok I admit, sorry, I lied, they're all new sets. But I really wanted to build those awesome LOTR models YOU just admitted I NEEDED to buy new bricks to do so, unable to do the same with the bricks from my existing collection! Outcome 2: Mom: Oh, I see. (As long as she never sees the boxes or instructions you're fine)

Rohan Isengard Mordor Gondor (ehh... Crown Knights, but they look and act as Gondorian soldiers just fine!)

Nice MOC! But it's not really an alternate model if it requires additional parts. People with only the XL motor coming with the original set can't build it.

Precisely what I thought as well. I only bought it after I saw it on sale. But in my very first build, it's "cobbled together" flaw inspired me to incorporate hinges right into the build to connect everything together. As a result I had more fun building this set than the rest of the hobbit line http://www.eurobrick...=80391&hl=79010 http://www.flickr.co...964105876/show/

I talked to one of my local TRU managers today. Apparently LOTR isn't that great of a seller "because kids don't know the storyline". Still, it's only one store, so take it for what it's worth.
