  1. I agree with most of the replies on this thread. The desire to build will inevitably come back. If it's not you, but your future wife who's forcing you to sell off your collection: DITCH the stupid bitch, and DON'T sell anything. If she loves you, she'll accept your hobby.
  2. My parents were not rich. And I had a GI-Joe phase. 565 Moon Landing 544 basic set . I still use the old 16x16 baseplate to this day - the green is now dark green. --------------- After this, I'm not sure if I should include the following 4 classic space sets. They were originally my brother's, and by the time he gave them to me, many of the parts were lost or damaged, and the instructions were long lost; so I did not experience them to the fullest. I did build tons of space MOCs out of them, though, so here they are anyway: 462 442 894 918 ------------- Now it's 1986 8660 8640 8700 1497 1496 8832 So it ends in 1988. I was 13 and my dark ages began, only to end in 2002 by my purchase of the 8457 Power Puller and 8431 Pneumatic Crane on lego.com. If you're a still a kid, or a teen who never entered a "dark age", then...stop at when you were 14 or something.
  3. Another great Riddles in the dark moc, by Jacob Nion http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/329680
  4. Thanks! I'm glad I posted this question. Now to rebuild this assembly...
  5. I'm building Nico71's road grader moc. http://www.nico71.fr/road-grader/ Although he provides plenty of photos, there's one place where you can't hardly see anything: the inside of the front wheel steering assembly. What's the gray part buried in the middle, between the yellow 1 x 11 beam and the knob gear wheel? You can kinda see the underneath of it a little in this pic In that pic you can see the steering assembly in the middle, slightly to the left: You can somewhat see some of it sticking out here: It looks to me a 1 x 4 think beam with with Stud Connector... What do you guys make out of this?
  6. Hi SandMirror, I only see two working links in your post. Since you mentioned Blake Baer... (I ordered them for you) Hobbiton Bag End (bilbo+door) Roast Mutton (encounter with the three trolls) Riddles in the Dark Queer Lodgings (Beorn's house) Flies and Spiders Barrels out of Bond A Warm Welcome Inside Information Fire and Water Gathering of the Clouds The Clouds Burst
  7. Done! Fantastic MOC, by the way. That would be a good idea, but this one is strictly for LOTR. I'll leave that job to somebody else. If anyone is inclined to do so, feel free to use my original post as template.
  8. On the many topics, "LOTR 2012", "LOTR 2013", "Lotr Set Reviews" and "LOTR future sets" topics, people often point out how the line is meant for older kids, teens and adults. Do you personally know any kids, 12 year old and younger, who are into the theme? Do you know any that are into the Lego theme but have never seen the movies? Do you know any that have seen the movies and/or read the books, but have no interest in the Lego theme? I'm very curious to know.
  9. For a boy: Morgoth For a girl: Ungoliant
  10. It's a darn shame the huge western town from Cusoo got canceled because of this "meh" license.
  11. How did you get one so soon? It still doesn't show up anywhere on lego.com
  12. Great MOC! But as other have said, it would look better with minifigs. Can you please place a variety of town minifigs in there and then take some more pics?
  13. That is my experience as well, especially from parents in their late 30s up to late 40s. Probably because their most lasting memory of the toy is the one from when they were kids (70s and 80s) and their recent experience with it (for their own kids) constrasts wildly with their own experience. Although I haven't really contributed to this thread, here I disagree a bit. 1) Why should *I* care what non AFOLs think about our hobby ? Most of them probably think of me as "that creepy guy around the toy aisle" and I couldn't care less what these bigots think about me or my hobby being respectable to *their* eyes. 2) I find those ironic comics hilarious.
  14. What is the dark haired female minifig's name? I assume, voiced by Elizabeth Banks.
  15. Lego finally appeared to have come to their senses regarding their boxes. It was getting ridiculous. The 8043 in particular is a big offender - 20% lego and 80% air! Since I keep all boxes I have to keep sets within other sets like Russian dolls to save space.
  16. Love it. Please make in LDD file, or I'd also be happy with detailed photos of the building steps so we can reproduce it ourselves!
  17. Updated. Thanks for contributing!
  18. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! sorry, couldn't resist. great MOC!
  19. Mine's gonna be on a small table. It's gonna be kept fully erect for about a month, then after that I'm gonna split it in 3 tiers to avoid warping the bricks of the foundations due to stress.
  20. LOTR Tower of Orthanc. Better by far than any set from any theme in 2013 so far. The only thing that comes close is the Ewok village, for its ridiculously large minifig collection. Town sets of 2013 - same old boring, disappointing, repetitive crap that we get each year. Oh look! More fire and police sets! Only the orange train is OK. The new modular building (cinema) is boring as heck. Technic - Hands down the worst year since 2008. Every single early 2013 set is crap. There's a new crane coming up in a few months, but it's just a slightly bigger, rehashed 8421, but with no pneumatics and no new functions.. Good if you don't have 8421, I guess. Superheroes - that line is all about the minifigs. EDIT: I do have to add that the Friends theme does gets serious, dedicated attention from Lego. Every wave has good sets. I don't own any, but my niece will probably get the yacht eventually.
  21. LOL @ Thorin at the council of Elrond
  22. Cool trailer! but really ... I read the book recently and I don't remember orcs flying around at every corner Can't wait for the next Hobbit Lego wave, hopefull Smaug will be brick built and huge!
  23. Hi all I haven't kept much track of the Technic forum lately (mostly into LOTR...) 1- What functionalities do the new crane has that the 8421 doesn't? Does the crane base rotate via a mechanism? So far it just looks like a longer 8421 with 2 more wheels and LAs instead of pneumatics... 2- When will the exclusive blue variant of the 9398 4x4 crawler be available?
  24. Thanks, I added the link! I fixed all of them, I hope they are better now. Please tell me if there are any more mistakes.
