REVIEW: 71011 LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 15
HawkLord replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Thanks for posting this awesome review. It's really reinvigorated my interest in the CMF series after I took a break when Simpsons 2 came out. I actually dug out some of my minifigures from the previous series to compare them to this one and it looks really promising. -
Marvel Superheroes 2016 Rumors And Discussion
HawkLord replied to Quicksilver's topic in LEGO Licensed
It's like they're kids in cosplay. Could almost work as an ongoing goofy series that might help the younger crowd get into Lego with alternative versions of popular characters. Spidey particularly works because he doesn't have a mouth. -
I wonder if B&P is just bulk extras that Lego made on anticipation of damaged parts. I'm wondering if B&P would then have a limited run for each part. While PaB is more for ongoing common parts made.

I'd say the question is - do you need to sell one collection off to start another? If you do, then the choice between Space and Pirates is perfectly fine. People start and restart collections all the time. But if you don't need to drop one, I'd say keep the Space collection just in case you don't end up liking Pirates so that you don't regret it later. If anything I would at least recommend keeping some of the Space, because there's almost always a nostalgia factor with collections one used to own.

Great set. I'll be in for a couple just for the parts to make cantina visitors and/or Jedi. The bodies might end up going towards Jurassic World ACU special forces.

The higher the price the more likely it is to not sell out. Sure Doctor Who sold out because it was under $100 and a previously un-released license (I'm not counting the Dimensions set). Ghostbusters HQ at a few $100 will not sell out, as the Ecto-1 is still available and only the most diehard fans will shell out that much for it. Really, only Idea sets which are relatively inexpensive (less than $100) run the risk of selling out.

There's so much in that MOC! Fantastic build even if it didn't have the open up feature. With the open up feature, it's awesome. And I like that it has a female heroine. Very well done!

Are Clone Lego Brands bad for LEGO?
HawkLord replied to The Steward's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Like with any merchandise that can be "knocked-off", like clothes, purses, collectibles, etc, people will always want the original, official version more. That and Lego's natural name brand recognition makes me believe that clone brands will never really impact Lego enough to damage them. By definition, clone brands copy what Lego has already done, so to truly be a threat, they would have to start designing and manufacturing their own material. The R&D alone would cut into their profit way too much - it's easier for them to be parasites.- 70 replies

Star Wars Constraction 2016 Discussion
HawkLord replied to Logan McOwen's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Just picked up Vader and built it. I've never worked with any bionicle-style sets before, the most experience I've had would be with the Lego movie Metalbeard or Marvel Hulkbuster. Overall, it was alittle strange at first building the main body stuff. I wasn't quite sure where I was going with all of it, unlike most brick Lego sets where I can see something coming together. Eventually, I started working on limbs and it all made sense. I definitely recommend the set. Vader looks great finished and is a good size for the price, I think. -
Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here
HawkLord replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Wow, I might need to grab another one or two. I have three for expanding the Cantina, but it's such a good set for parts and the minifigures. I've heard others who have bought multiple copies so I imagine it has sold really well, but Lego may not have a spot for it in 2016 with the other OT stuff they're making. -
Imperial Shuttle Tyderium and the constraction figure Vader. Vader is surprisingly cool.

Marvel Superheroes 2016 Rumors And Discussion
HawkLord replied to Quicksilver's topic in LEGO Licensed
It's probably already been mentioned, but TRU has the Hulk polybag available with a $30 purchase (in the U.S.) First time I've seen the signs up for it. -
In six years of modern Lego collecting, I've had no problem in eventually acquiring any Lego set I've wanted with the exception of the Ideas Research Institute. And that was because I wasn't fast enough. Otherwise, everything eventually comes back in stock for core and licensed themes. Ideas are the only sets I'm really aggressive with now. With that said, expect Lego to get a lot of mileage with the new Doctor Who set - they've really done well at producing good quantities of licensed Idea sets.

It's largely understood that Hasbro was really just desparetly flexing their muscle when they stopped Lego from making magnets. Hasbro saw a declined in Star Wars action figure sales in 2008-2009, which meant they felt threatened. No one really knows what the language is in their licensing agreement with LFL, but it was enough that Lego backed down rather than fought the issue. On the plus side, I believe that Hasbro's licensing agreement expires in 2017, which means Disney can go back to the negotiating table and pursue blind-packed options if they're interested. Disney has had success with their blind-packed vinyl figures (including their Star Wars ones, which are on Series 3, I think). There's also the issue of Disney releasing a 7" Star Wars figure line this year that directly competes with Hasbro's 6" Star Wars figure line, which means Disney may yet have plans that contradict current licensing agreements.

Are the chromed bricks going to be used afterwards in any particular fashion? With Lego being very precise in measurements, one concern would be how much a layer of chrome would add, effecting how other bricks would work those chromed ones.

They were in the toy section on an endcap a couple aisles down from the Lego. Kinda weird, since if you don't walk that far down, you'd miss it.

Glad to help. I've been in the action figure hobby for decades and had been a SSC/HT/Transformers collector for years until recently. All have crazy market limitations. Now, I'm glad to be dedicated to Lego - much easier to get ahold of, with less market exceptions.

Doomsday at the end really killed it. It would have been better if the Trinity was just looking at somethingoff screen the whole time to keep Doomsday a secret. Plus, Doomsday looked really bad; almost like Abomination from Hulk. Overall, I'm hoping they have some surprises left and that Wonder Woman gets to do more than just show up and shock Supes/Batman. I still think Supes will get killed by Doomsday and that will prompt the forming of the JL...

Just to clarify, Sideshow and Hot Toys have a different license than Hasbro. SSC and HT makes 12" scale figures and HT in particular makes them for the Asian market. Since SSC imports HT figures in the US and is the primary (not only) distributor, that's why SSC can bring in HT 12" Star War figures. It comes down to licensing for a given area. In the US and Europe, Hasbro is the only company that can make Star Wars 3-6" figures. In the Asian market, other companies can make various types of Star Wars material, like Koto, Revoltech, etc, which can include various scales. Lego is not allowed to sell individual minifigures, because it infringes on the license that Hasbro has to make figures in the US/Europe market. That's why Lego had to discontinue the magnets they used to make that had removable minifigures. Now at the same time, Medicom currently makes blind packed Star Wars figures, that are like Lego and they are allowed to sell them because of their Asian market license. Sorry for the tangent...

Also spotted the polybag First Order Special Forces (Elite) TIE at Target in the Seattle area. They had plenty.

Marvel Superheroes 2016 Rumors And Discussion
HawkLord replied to Quicksilver's topic in LEGO Licensed
The Sub Attack feels obligatory, like it's just there to provide Hyrda/Red Skull to be in the current line-up. Cap A is disappointing in design. The Avenjet is only good for the minifigures and even then, they aren't great. Thanos' smile is just enough on the goofy side that I'll wait for the next version of him (I'm betting Lego will get lots of mileage from that mold, like with Hulk). -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 15 Rumors and Discussion
HawkLord replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Wow, that's a very solid series. I think there are a lot of really good, useful pieces here and some of the ideas/concepts are great. Jewel thief, hawk guy (think I found my new avatar), tribal mother, satyr, queen, green knight, and animal catcher are all very appealing. Left shark is alittle outdated or feels like a missed opportunity. The animals are very nice and as I don't have either are very appealing. -
What 2016 Themes/Sets Are You Most Hyped For?
HawkLord replied to Chilly_Productions's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Battle packs for Star Wars and potentially Nexo Knights for material. Otherwise, Ghostbusters is out of my price point and Marvel hasn't "wowed me" lately. Might be another quieter year.- 64 replies
