  1. I should have prefaced my post with "in the USA". I agree in other areas Lego can be hard to find.
  2. A lot of it could also be Lego building ammo to get certain licenses. At the moment, Lego doesn't have Nintendo and can't make Zelda. But if they can prove to Nintendo that they have a reasonable enough consumer base that's interest they might be able to convince Lego that when the Knex license is up Nintendo should shift it to Lego. Ideas is low cost market research.
  3. I would just use positive reinforcement of other sets. Try to redirect his attention to sets you know are more conducive to him taking apart. Maybe keep the collector sets out reach or out of sight (as best you can). Or maybe see if he would find interest in viewing the instructions only for those collector sets so that he can try to recreate the collector set with different parts and his own customization.
  4. That's one thing I love about Lego - nothing is really hard to find. Sure sets sell out occasionally, but with multiple retail outlets and online, I find almost any set even months after release. Other type items, like action figures, that suffer from the whole "one per case" ratios and whatnot are very hard to track down. Lego I've never had that problem with - I know eventually I can catch anything.
  5. Awesome design. I like the hair, earrings, and sword. Plus the colors work really well.
  6. Very creative build. The animals look great and you can tell its Star Wars. Plus very colorful. I think it's a winner.
  7. Target is the best for inventory control like this. If you have a DCPI and call, they'll tell you if they have it or if other stores have it. And if they do have it (and it's not street dated), they'll always pull it; even if the tags aren't up.
  8. Granted, I feel like the JW sets are underwhelming, I also feel like Lego was trying to make the best of the situation. They had Dino molds to use, so that worked here and they probably didn't know what people would gravitate towards in terms of other products, hence the vehicles. You could kind of say the same thing for the Hasbro JW toy line, which features no humans (except one generic). Maybe companies didn't know what to do with a franchise like this since it had been so long since the last JP movie. And obviously no one could have predicted the movie would do so well.
  9. I'm hoping at least the week or two before Sept 4th we get pics of some things. I'm a SW fan beyond Lego and there's just very little leaked and I'm wondering if I even want to push through any "midnight madness" releases and the like at the main toy stores.
  10. Really some great material here. Fantasy and Town both get alot of useful parts even if the minifigures as is don't appeal to people. This might be one where I get one copy of each minifigure, though I'm thinking I'll skip the plant guy.
  11. If Lego already has the license or if some other company has the license, the project will never be approved. Star Wars and Marvel/DC already have licenses with Lego and approve their own sets; they wouldn't need Ideas to come up with concepts for them. The problem with Zelda is that Nintendo already has a building toy license with Knex for Mario, so I'm doubtful that Lego can get a license from Nintendo for Zelda.
  12. Now that JW has become the third biggest selling movie of all time, I'm sure Lego is going to working on a lot more for JW2 in 2018. That movie will be huge and Lego won't want to let that contract go. I'm not sure if they can scramble and get a wave two out for this movie, but I certainly hope so. I'd even take some repaints at this point.
  13. I think that's the best one yet. Almost like a Classics/Generations version of Ratchet or Prowl.
  14. Unexpected Gathering from The Hobbit series. The Cantina from the Star Wars series, maybe. Ewok Village from the Star Wars series for lots of brown pieces.
  15. I must be one of the only people hoping for a misprint of some kind. I think it would be cool to have, since in six years of collecting I've never encountered one. If it was on a big deal item, I would definitely call to get a replacement, but otherwise I would think it'd be a neat part of my collection.
  16. T-16 Skyhopper and another microfighter AT-AT at a store grand opening. My first Tusken...
  17. Hit the southcenter grand opening in Washington this past weekend. On the exclusive set day we were in line and then out the door in about 3 hours, on the minifigure day I was in and out in 40mins. I'm surprised that the exclusive minifigure pack has just a blue background with yellow lettering on the cardboard insert. I have a previous store openings minifigure set that had Seattle skyline shot with the Space Needle. It seems this year, Lego isn't doing city specific scenes for the inserts on the minifigure packs.
  18. That's really well done and colorful. It looks very realistic and stylized with all the techniques and colors. Really impressive!
  19. Like a lot of Lego, I just end up with stuff by default. For example, I don't actively collect CMF or Town, but have a reasonable number of Town minifigures just from random purchases and promos. With Lego doing a lot more with CMF, minifigure packs, PaF, and Dimensions, you can get a quick assortment of minifigures easily.
  20. Great job! Really nice techniques and the groundwork look especially good and realistic. I also really like the barge as a nice contrast. Well done!
  21. Great forced perspective! And very color, looks great for a sunny summer day. Well done!
  22. Great blast-from-the-past review. This came out during my Lego dark ages, so I have no experience with the set, but it doesn't look that terrible for something coming out of 1999. It's true those droids are pretty good, since they haven't changed since and still appear in sets today - Lego definitely made their money back in that mold.
  23. Honestly point to a LoTR line of product that is actually doing well. Bridge Direct dropped off, Weta is barely doing anything, Gentle Giant is out. Everybody left the Middle Earth product game, so there's very little motivation for Lego to stay in too. If LoTR was blowing up like Marvel is now, then yes Lego would stay in, but the lack of overall Hobbit products showed companies the there was/is no money in Middle Earth.
  24. I'm very happy that I got my Death Star set. Even if it does get revamped later, this one has so many old-school minifigures and so much character already, I doubt I'd get an updated version. Especially since at this point, I have a few updated minifigures from the set already.
  25. Polybags usually count as promos and avoid the "selling" action figures situation. I'm hoping that since Disney owns Marvel that they may rethink letting Lego and Funko do action figures, since Hasbro's traction with some action figures is limited.
