  1. This turned out great. It's fun to see the development of the models as they move through towards completion. This is looking clean, and the little splash of color is great.
  2. I'm game. It gets right to the nostalgia of old LEGO sets that works so well for me. I would be interested to see what others would come up with, including all those people who have negative opinions of this set. Truthfully I started rebuilding my 8081 RT MOD last night because of this thread. Maybe I'll add something else. Keep it going @schraubedrin, let's see more MODs from you. When you do one 8081 MOD, certainly more are on the way. Let's see one from you @Oliver 79 and @grum64 too!
  3. Fun! @rm8 and I are co-sponsors of the Unofficial 8081 fan club, so I am always happy to see a modification of 8081. There are a number of different modifications that have been done. A couple of my favorites. I guess this set came out prior to starting a MOD and improvement thread, so many of the threads are fragmented. I am happy you have started this. Makes me want to do another MOD of this set.
  4. This was great before, but the interior changes make the it so much better. Great job.
  5. OK, another update. I rebuild the frame to better accommodate the rear fuselage and the wings. Also, @I_Igor I have quadrupled the engine size. I now have half of the required 24 cylinders. So, maybe not a Napier Sable, but more like a Napier Pocketknife. It changes the look of the plane, so I'm not sure it will stay, but I had to try it. I'm not sold on the exhaust as well. It seems to mess up the side, and does not add much. I put the wrong axle in for the propellor, so again @steph77 the spinner to too long. I'll fix it. I need to do a little more shaping to the fuselage and the wings, and then some markings. The horizontal stabilizers will be white when parts arrive. I'll start working on other details soon. Getting closer to completion, which is good because time is running out.
  6. They passed this point for me with the Bugatti. I was willing to take a chance on the 911. It was only OK, so I'm not playing at these price levels anymore. I'll take the new parts in a high priced set through pick-a-brick now. 42099 sounds kind of fun, and seems like it will usher in a new waive of 4x4 parts like 8110 did a couple years ago. Not a bad thing...
  7. I’m happy you stuck with it. It’s looking good.
  8. Perfect! Thanks. I'll try to keep the changes to a minimum. I'm happy this one is working a little better for me too. I'm having some fun with this one, and I'm happy I'll be part of this contest. The firepower will be top notch, and I'll have to see if I can add a couple more arms to it.
  9. Nothing too significant today. I spent some little chunks of time this last week on small parts: The wings have their general shape, the weapons are in, the flight controls work, and all the hard points are set. I'll clean it up a little more when I get a good block of time. I will order some parts soon to keep the colors a little more consistent (we'll lose the yellow). I still don't have a great solution for the landing gear. We'll see what I come up with...
  10. Glad to see some progress on this project, and I am happy to be of some help. I did a similar type of tail rotor on my Coast Guard Helicopter, and it may be helpful to mount the fan part on a gear assemble as it may be more reliable than the belt system. Again, if it can helpful, give it a try. The Dark Azure really looks sharp.
  11. Great Job. I am increasingly attracted to this scale supercar. After my 3T sedan, and my current Sports Car, it's great to see an excellent design at this scale to help me come up with new ideas. Hopefully we can see more at this scale from others too. Looking forward to more...
  12. Don’t worry, it’s on my list. I think the propeller diameter needs to increase a little too. We’ll see if we can get that to work as well.
  13. Yep. It has 1/8th of the required cylinders.
  14. As mentioned in the last post, this project has taken a little bit of a turn because I was not feeling motivated on the helicopter. The helicopter is still sitting off to the side, so I'll see if I come back to it. I like old warplanes, and I was tinkering around with some parts, and found some subbuilds I liked. I tied a couple of these subbuilds together with a Hawker Tempest in the back of my mind. This is what I got. I'll try to clean it up a little more soon since it's pretty rough right now. I'll repost the improvements as they happen. We'll see if this motivates a little more activity.
  15. This project has been fun to watch, and the Dark Azure looks great in the application. Thanks for posting the tail, as this will be the trickiest part. I am partial to helicopters that have a non-traditional tail rotor, so I am interested to see how you do this. I would do without the Chiron panels. It focuses the eye on the arch, and not on the tail. Use these instead. Keep it simple.
  16. We will see. I took some influence from your Helicopter, and added a bunch of shooting parts to the airplane, so if nothing else, it will be, let's say...combative. I'll try to upload something soon. I'll give it one more build session and if nothing spikes I may set it aside for the time being. I do like how the rotors have turned out. Those blades work great at this scale, and the pitch change for the front and rear is great to watch.
  17. So here is an update on my helicopter. The landing gear is working, and the collective is working as well. I confess, this contest has been a little hard for me due to a lack of inspiration. All of my ideas, including this one, are getting stuck very early in the design phase. I am not interested in continuing with what I have been developing. It's a shame, I love aircraft and contests, but this one is not working for me so far. I started another build this weekend of a WWII airplane that might work. Maybe this one will work a little better, but it won't be amazing.
  18. I like the new modifications for the most part, though I liked the higher roof. It looks like the roof height is the same at the rear, but you dropped the front, right? The higher roof gave the greenhouse a little more shape. I don't mind the rake, and it gives the car good "stance" to my eyes. I tend to like cars with short front overhangs, so this one has a little too much for me. The hood looks great, as do the headlights. Also, I love the splitter. The rear looks great.
  19. @Jim, can you post a photo of the new wheel arch filled with a couple different wheels? I am interested to see what else will pair well with these arches. I am particularly interested in 43mm, 49.5mm, and 56mm as suitable tire options. Thanks for your help.
  20. This is a fun set, that is a little different than others we have seen. I like the recent trend to unique vehicles from TLG. Thanks as always for the review.
  21. OK, I'll play too. I am excited about any reason to build an aircraft, but these last couple of days have been rough. I have drafted four ideas (F-86, TA-183, Air Racer, and DH Mosquito), and I didn't like were any of them were going. Getting the nose right is so tricky. Or I am too picky. So, here is the fifth idea, and we will see what can happen with this. It's not very ambitious, but I'll be able to get it done in time. And it fits with what I like to do, mid sized, no PF, and packed full of features. Dual Rotors Front and Rear Collective control Retractable landing gear Opening side door Rear ramp Which It's not much to start, but I have drafted some of the mechanics off to the side. I'll update again tomorrow. I am stuck on colors right now. Yellow and red is overdone, and I do not want too much white, so I welcome votes. Top/Bottom Orange, DBG Lego City White, Blue, and Orange Orange and LBG vertical panels Orange and DBG vertical panels Red and White
  22. Noticed the TLG shop was closed yesterday too. Hopefully it doesn’t set me too far behind too. The updates are looking good.
  23. I like your utilization of the wheel hub for the pitch function. This works perfectly for a three blade propeller. A great idea I would not have come up with. Great job.
