Cracking/Crumbling 9v Transformer to Track Wire?
Rail Co replied to Rail Co's topic in LEGO Train Tech
The only problem is this is the wire that connects from the transformer TO the track using clips... Thanks though -
What's been new in lego trains the past few years?
Rail Co replied to Carefree_Dude's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Power functions has fazed out the 9v system sadly for trains. The sets are usually at least an oval of track for the passenger set and also includes a tiny station area and 2 end cars and 1 center car 1 is motorized, an oval of track and 2 switch tracks for the cargo train, the cargo train comes usually with a motorized engine along with 2-3 freight cars and a track side structure also maybe a truck or two if your lucky. Those are the Lego "City" sets aimed for the 6 year olds. The exclusive sets are now known as "Creator Expert" sets which are for older kids and adults. These are usually un-motorized trains that are very detailed and usually come with and engine and 1-2 cars and some mini-figs, these can be motorized easily if you choose to buy the power functions and put them into your model. Power functions I am sure you know is all using an IR Remote and receiver (RC). There are upsides and downsides Pros: Can control from anywhere, Works on Every track made by LEGO, Has better lighting, can be mixed with a 9v motor to charge the rechargeable battery box and add cab lighting, stronger motors than the RC ones and maybe 9v motors (not sure). Cons: Hard to put in small locos like shunters, a lot of money to get it to work (motor, battery Box, IR Receiver, Controller, {optional lighting}). There aren't really any track side structures sadly as for one the demand for trains has gone down and they can't motorize them really well anymore. So there are some great things with this system but also some not so great things... I enjoy the system we just need some better structures, including signals, rail crossings, etc. Hope this helps! -RailCo -
Hello Train Tech! My Transformer to Track wire for my 9v system is cracking all over and falling apart causing the positive and negative wires touch so I am not able to use my 9v trains right now... Has anyone had this problem and have a fix (without using electrical tape). I am thinking if there is a way to rewire it with new wires? If anyone has ideas or has had this problem before it be much appreciated if you had a fix! Thanks Guys! -RailCo

Remember though, that these are "Expert sets" meaning that they are meant for teens and up. On the boxes the say 14+ not the 6-9 on the city trains. So it is still a valid possibility!!! Also a Mallard would be amazing to have in a Lego set

I would have at least tried to put those old style 1x2x2 windows in the back but I sadly only had one! I may check again but I do not think that is happening...

Anyone got some ideas on what this should shunt? I was thinking small flat cars, coal cars, or oil tankers. I am leaning to Oil cars but also small coal cars. Any other ideas? Thanks SO much guys -RailCo

The plan is to have some coal/hopper cars for it to shunt around. I do not know when I will get to this I'll have to design them first anyways. As I do not have much space for a layout right now I'll just have to let it run in a small circle . The color scheme almost matches the engine shed Perfectly! Wow never noticed that Thanks Guys -RailCo

I think there may be a pattern here I think it will go like this: Steam (was the emerald night), Freight (Maersk Train), Bullet/high-speed train (HE), then the loop starts again in 2015 with another steam engine. That is what I expect to happen. Hopefully Lego will surprise us maybe with a shunter and some nice coal cars to go with it? -Rail Co

So I took some of your advice and put my own twist on it zephyr1934. I used the old style 1x2x3 windows on the side of the cab for the look of doors. not sure How I feel about them yet. 2014-07-30_11-00-05 by Railco1, on Flickr Then on the back I added red/back lights (a lot of people suggested) along with some small windows at the top, which I think look very nice! 2014-07-30_11-00-40 by Railco1, on Flickr

I feel like a wind screen would be too big for the shunter. Any suggestions for small windscreens without changing to much of the model? I honestly think that the windscreen is fine. Maybe it's the angle but i even put a camera where he would (or should) be standing and you can see out it fine (maybe me personally).

Got any ideas? I tried to make it detailed but my parts are basically in mixed tubs right now so it is hard to find that one piece you need. P.s. It's my first shunter MOC too.

Wow just WOW, I really wish I could build city models like that!

Hello Guys I needed a shunter and I love the locos so I decided to make one. It is not based on any shunter in particular I just thought of a design and build it in LDD first and transferred it to actual bricks. I hope you like it and enjoy! Lego Diesel Shunter by Railco1, on Flickr The model uses as best I could all smooth tiles, I believe there is only 5 studs showing in this model (Headlamps, guardrails, exhaust). Lego Diesel Shunter by Railco1, on Flickr If you notice the nose of the Loco has a light incline. This was unintentional but it looks GREAT, So I kept it. Lego Diesel Shunter by Railco1, on Flickr The front isn't too fancy but it has a couple details like lamps, guard rail, and for the front windows I used the 2x1 guardrails (not well versed in the exact names of the bricks) which makes room for a short enough roof. Lego Diesel Shunter by Railco1, on Flickr The back is very bland, I hope to change it to something better I am just out ideas at the moment for that bit. The idea is to actually make it run on PowerFunctions in the future. The plan is to have a 9v sqaure battery hooked up to a 9v to PF conversion cable connecting to a partially disassembled IR Receiver. Than which would connect into the motor and all the wires will be hidden in the nose of the loco. Hope you enjoyed! Leave comments and ALL suggestions are welcome! Thanks, -RailCo P.S. Could someone delete the post titled MOC/WIP Shunter? Thanks!

Hello So I am back on Eurobricks (after about a year busy period) and I do not see how we can upload photos from our computer to our posts anymore? Please help! Thanks -RailCo

Hey Guys here is my work in progress Of a Shunter. It may look complete but it is not as I need your help to give suggestions on what to add! Link: https://www.flickr.c...06/14749146646/ The back of the train you cannot see is just a red brick wall so I hope you can also tell me how to make a back of a shunter look better! Thanks Guys -RailCo P.S. I know the buffers are grey but I do not have any black cow catcher buffers, and also just realized i forgot hand rails on the cab so that why it's a WIP . EDIT: I would really enjoy your help. I have added windows which makes it look 10 times better. This is my first ever MOC of a shunter so any suggestions are welcome!

I see what you guys are saying with the diorama i would have to pick up some bricks or rummage for hours in the unorganized bins (need to organize). I am mostly looking at just a layout as i want to run my trains. I have space for a diorama somewhere else if i ever decide to do that. I believe I used the maximum space that I have with 2 loops one square and just a circle in the middle. Then I found I was able to squeeze in a siding off to the side with around enought space to put 2 trains. Thanks guys -RailCo

Hey Guy I know I have been asking a lot of questions (you guys have good ideas) but I was wondering I do not have a lot of room for a layout right now. I was wondering If anyone has any simple ideas to make every inch count right now I have a sq. of track, and about a 40" by 40" space to work with. All ideas are welcome! Thanks SO much -RailCo

Wow I love this Layout and I can see it's not even finished and I already Love it! I am wondering as i have made a prototype for my rails and ballast out of lego, how do you build it on the curves and switch tracks? Very cool -RailCo

Sorry I should of Specified I live in the USA, I am looking mostly for 9v trains as I have almost all the PF trains (other than the new 2014 City trains). I got into the hobby too late to get 9v . I Need To know if there are any online stores for 9v trains (motors, sets, etc). Thanks JopieK :) -RailCo

Hey Guys I am wondering if anyone knows a good shop (Online) that sells lego trains (Mostly 9v and PF) for a good price other than Bricklink and a Lucky eBay find? Thanks so much -RailCo

One Word Amazing! Great Job! -RailCo

Your challenge is to motorize it . you could probably but the battery box in the car use the old 9v mini motor connecting in some gears? Great Job looks great! -RailCo

Ok So I believe LEGO just is to worried about profits and/or how their target age for trains or city line in general (Age 6) will react to side structures. I think it is just a matter of how much money each set will cost! For a kid 100-200 dollars for a set is a lot of money. Then if you make side structures they may not be able to afford it as they shelled out $200 on a set. So I don't know if the side structures will earn a lot of money for LEGO just because of that reason. I hope in the future (Near future?) that Lego will at least decide to make the basic side structures essential for a nice layout like: -Rail Crossing (Automated and Manual) -Engine Shed (Where are you supposed to store your engines? ) -Cargo Bay -Train signals (How do the drivers know when to stop? ) Those I think are the most essential ones for a good layout as they all have playability for kids through Adults! Also off topic but, Lego needs to make a shunter of sorts it could be a what $75 set or so with a couple of coal cars to shunt? P.S. In my signature are links to my friend who is pushing for Lego side structures on LEGO Ideas go check them out :) Interesting stuff guys, hopefully we can get Side structures Back! Keep Brickin' -RailCo
