Thank you all for your encouraging words! Thanks! That I knew I had this build coming up was actually one of the reasons I was thinking about joining Avalonia in the first place, but making my character come from Avalonia ended up being a good enough solution Yes, me too. These first shots were however mostly to view the architecture, I had some more population when I took some of the last pictures of all modules together That was unfortunately too big for my backdrop, so I have some post-processing to do before I publish those pics... The curve underneath is just ordinary "half-arches" with plates on the underside. What I had to do however was to use old grey arches in the middle of the bridge to attach the plates to, since my light bluish grey arches are of the new type which sadly don't clutch studs on the underside I have one picture I can upload later which shows the bridge closer up. The photos of the next module (gatehouse) have been edited and uploaded now, go check it out if you want!

This is the gatehouse of Nordana Castle, sometimes also called Nordana Hall. The castle is located in Avalonia and is the ancient seat of the earls of Norshire, from which Sir Gideon the half-elf has his human blood through his mother (as described in my character intro). The gatehouse also forms the western tower of the castle. The portcullis can be raised and lowered, as well as the drawbridge. Other modules: South tower North tower Great hall The teeth sink into holes in the floor (credit to my fellow Swebrick member jesperallen for the idea!) Together with the south tower: For this build (or the combination of the two) I'd like to claim the following University of Petraea credits: - Military Science: Fortifications - General Building (Other Techniques): Movement-enabled C&C welcome! Second module for my Swebrick Medieval community build castle, adapted for the Guilds of Historica setting. Edit: Picture of the whole castle finally uploaded to flickr!

I was referring to the reddish brown which seems like a quite different hue here to me.

The best part of this build is the angle of the roof, looks very Norse! I think you should use that roof technique on a larger build some day

Book II - Nocturnus: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Gideon replied to ZCerberus's topic in Guilds of Historica
That sounds like an awesome idea Lord Vladivus! I'm sure that we only scrathed the surface during the challenge of what Nocturnus has to offer -
Book II - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Gideon replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
My "Avalonian" castle had collected a lot of dust during the exhibition I had it displayed on for a couple of days (incredible how much dust a few thousand people generate). After using these: and most of the dust was removed. I did some modifications to make the castle become firmly Avalonian and took a series of photos of the modules. This castle now represents the ancestral home of Nordana Castle (or Nordana Hall as it is sometimes refered to among the Avalonian nobility), home of the earls of Norshire (as I described in my character intro). Pictures of the first module has been uploaded and can be viewed by clicking the image below. I will edit and upload more pictures later, hopefully there will even be some picture of all the modules together to show later when I've removed some non-white parts of the background For single modules my backdrop was enough. -
This is the south tower of Nordana Castle, sometimes also called Nordana Hall. The castle is located in Avalonia and is the ancient seat of the earls of Norshire, from which Sir Gideon the half-elf has his human blood through his mother (as described in my character intro). The tricky part of this build was to make the angled sections look good from all sides, for which I used a fair amount of wedge bricks. Other modules: Gatehouse North tower Great hall C&C welcome! First module for my Swebrick Medieval community build castle, adapted for the Guilds of Historica setting. Edit: Picture of the whole castle finally uploaded to flickr!

Very nice house and snowscaping! And I also still like the idea of a warg stable very much The figures feel very Mitgardian, good job on that too. It seems btw like you've got some dirt or grease on your camera lens, the middle-right part of each picture is dimmer than the rest.

Good idea backing up your MOCs in LDD! I usually only take some pictures and let that be the documentation.
-
Good job with the minifig posing, I especially like the last one with the black beard...fits very well with that torso.
-
Very innovative tree design, well done
-
Good job with the story writing, I like the scary labyrinth feeling you managed to create here The last shot is very good, even though I think it would have been even more improved using a more scared minifig face.
-
This wall is just fantastic, you are quickly becoming one of the most skilled builders in Mitgardia...keep it up!
-
Innovative (and cruel) approach to the first Archery build The fig posing is excellent and ground design is well done. (There is something slightly off in the color balance of the photography however, I almost thought the ground was medium dark flesh)
-
Excellent house! I really like that door design, and both the walls and roof are very nice Keep up the good work!
-
Nice figure! And I agree that blue water is not that bad as we AFOLs sometimes think, even though I would probably have liked some white or transparent "foam" when the water is sloping that much

Another MOC which captures the same feeling of Barqa I have in my mind, by now you have fleshed the city out more than me! Have to do something about that when my Sultan's Gate is finished... I can really envision this as a room (or roofed courtyard?) high up on the heights overlooking the waters outside the mouth of the Arkbri River. Looking forward to seeing what the skilled Kaliphlin builders and craftsmen Gideon is sending to Benoic will accomplish. There's something with the angle of the water, or maybe just the short distance to the horizon and the high camera angle, which makes the FP effect slightly less convincing. I however really love that microscale ship!

AoM: Stable Phase II: A Humble Homestead
Gideon replied to DrColossus's topic in Guilds of Historica
Great idea with the skis as the roof, very innovative A word of advice regarding photo editing, beware so you don't cut away parts of the bricks (like the upper left corner here). I also think it's a good idea to remove the small speckles in the white areas, easily done with a selection and then delete -
AoM: Stable, Phase I: Olin's Sad Trek Through The Snow
Gideon replied to DrColossus's topic in Guilds of Historica
I agree with previous comments, the flat parts of the snow looks nice I think however that it would have looked even more realistic if they were depressed one or a couple of plates into the surface. -
Sultans Gate: My entry to challenge I
Gideon replied to TheUtilityBelt's topic in Guilds of Historica
Looking forward to what you will do with the pieces instead then! -
I like the idea of depicting the journey to his new city, and the prospect of an outsider (?) not being welcomed by the people of Ras-El-Akhen as their new lord sounds like it has a lot of story possibilities Using dark tan instead of the regular tan as a desert color works very well, so even though you might have made some more landscaping on the ground I think you deserve UoP +1 for your claims. At least there's one in the Mediterranean I saw on Malta: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Azure_Window

Sultans Gate: My entry to challenge I
Gideon replied to TheUtilityBelt's topic in Guilds of Historica
Good use of the Alamut gate I do however agree with previous comments that you should not post pictures which are not crisp, as that at least to me lowers the whole impression quite a bit. I also think you should be careful choosing your camera angles, there's no problem with only building some sides of a MOC (some of the best builders out there are "cheating" in this way). You should however not post those pictures unless it is for example to show some clever technique you've used on the back. Anyway, if you want there's still plenty of time to submit an improved MOC with the feedback you've received...after all, improving your MOCing and presentation skills is what GoH is really about -
AoM House phase1-3: Adventures with grandpa: Houses of Valholl
Gideon replied to Ecclesiastes's topic in Guilds of Historica
Very nice houses, especially the roofing designs and the front facades! The picture from the street side is just fantastic I also like that you have made interiors, even though some of the rooms inevitable are a bit too cramped on that scale... -
Another lovely build with these characters! I really like the layout of the town and the whole "show at the fair" feeling of glee
