  1. Welcome to Kaliphlin! We do not judge anyone based on color of skin or shape of the head. Just put together a signature fig and post a picture of him/her/it here in the Kaliphlin thread to join the build and start building for the Doctorate of Historica program I guess the lecture hall at the UoP was big enough to be visible from space? (By the way, do we really need to write UoP all the time for University of Petraea, why not just UP? And at least on my phone it would be much easier to write UPDH instead of UoP DoH )
  2. Nice little river, I like that water wheel and the small bridge...simple but clever design Can't help but wonder how the caves don't fill up with water when being so close to the river however
  3. Nice conclusion to the series, maybe not my favourite of the builds but definitely some nice techniques used here as well! Best in this one is I think the round tower and its roof, as well as the molten gold.
  4. Very nice use of those pieces, it really feels like every detail is there for a reason The side of the wreck with that round door looks very good!
  5. I really like this project! Looking forward to the updates here A pity to "lock up" a lot of nice pieces, but at least it's for a good cause.
  6. My 6 months old daughter loves playing with Duplo, or well...chewing on it and throwing it around So I'm still only letting her play with chew on some used bricks, saving the new bricks for actual building later.
  7. Maybe that leaves you with some tan to spare and and a desire for warmer weather in your MOCs...?
  8. Congratulations!! Not good for the building time however (Even though I'm reluctant to admit it in a forum like this, there are more important things in life than ABS bricks )
  9. I don't think a build must be built exclusively for GoH (for example in the same way a great build for CCCXI can be used in the GoH challenge I), but it must fit in the GoH context like any other free build. I also don't think that a build mustn't have been published anywhere before, but I think only the builds used for advanced placement credits (max 4) may have been posted in the GoH sub forum before the DoH program started. If an old build is dusted off (and if this indeed is allowed for credits), I think a serious effort to "GoH-ify" it will help persuade the Kaliphlin peers to approve those credits @NM et al: Does this sound reasonable?
  10. Excellent build, I especially like how you've cut away a part of the roof! (Another category I won't bother trying to enter now... )
  11. Having no internet access is even worse than not having access to the collection of bricks
  12. I won't be building for that anytime soon either, my wife is still quite fed up with my building at the moment after the crazy time I put into my castle module for the Swebrick community build last month so I will have a hard time even getting building time to finish entries in all 3 categories of the challenge Still so jealous of all of you who have Lego stores anywhere near you, and especially those with American pricing! Fortunately, at least I managed to get half a cup of lbg "brick bricks" in Manchester before I built my castle
  13. The +1 are from peer review of the claims for credits in the University of Petraea Doctorate of Historica program. Unfortunately, only Kaliphlin members are able to do the review at the moment...but anyone is welcome to build for the program!
  14. The waves are a bit obscured, it's not obvious that its not just the bow wave and the splash around the monster...but then again I suppose that's waves as well So +1 for the two hydrology disciplines and the zoology discipline!
  15. I agree with SK, more pictures of Thorshaven please Wouldn't mind more pictures of the layout with Mpya Stedor either!
  16. Some really great scenes you've made there, the shot with the planet outside is just brilliant...I spent a moment trying to figure out how you had managed to photoshop the realistic reflection effects in the window frame before I saw in the last pic that it actually was a Lego planet Well done, hope you get scores for each scene!
  17. When someone asks for this many certifications in one single build, I think the standards should be set quite high. You have used more than one technique for rounded towers, a multitude of snow techniques creating a very believable snowy environment, done a splendid job with sideways rocks AND managed to build a nice interior in the keep. Therefore I cannot do anything else than write +1 and great work on all those subjects!
  18. Is everyone busy with the challenge and CCCXI, or would someone be up for exchanging some ideas about the Kaliphlin Community building of Sultan's Gate as we discussed way back? I probably won't be able to build very much the coming weeks (and will need to focus my attention on getting some challenge builds done before Christmas), but in the open Kaliphlin spirit I think we of course should debate it to great length before getting down to actually building From what I remember from our previous discussions and the maps, I have in mind something like a fortified town located on top of the Great Escarpment where trade is bustling. As an important caravan stop and trans-shipment site, it is a place where Kaliphlin traders meet with traders from both Nocturnus and Mitgardia to exchange goods from both north, east and south. Maybe there is a great bazaar there, or just many smaller market areas? Surely there are many store houses great and small, owned by various merchants and trading companies, as well as numerous taverns of all price ranges where business can be conducted and money cam spent on gambling, wine and other pleasures. It is also a very valuable strategic location, since it guards the only scalable path (at least the only path not requiring dangerous rock climbing) up onto the Great Escarpment for many miles. As I recall it is an ancient fortification from the time when the Sultan ruled, which had become more or less ruined but that are repaired or being repaired to its former strength to protect this back door to Kaliphlin, as well as of course protecting the very important trade there. I envision the landscape there to be more or less totally arid, although not very sandy since the fierce winds rushing over the crest of the escarpment tend to remove most of the sand in a wide area. The town might be fed either with water from either a natural spring coming out further down through the wall of the escarpment (and carried up by some kind of machinery) or maybe more likely with an ancient aqueduct from the nearby foothills of the Rakath Mountains. In the latter case, there might be some agriculture there or at least some vegetation in the gardens within the town walls. There might even be a public bath house for the dusty and sweaty travellers to wash themselves in? Some inspirational pictures:
  19. Claims approved then, good job!
  20. Nice to finally see some pictures of the long expected castle! At a first glance I really like the overall layout and composition of the build, and I will look through and admire all the details later
  21. Very nice build, especially that tower and its roof really catches the eye And as usual there are a lot of other interesting details to discover, well done and good luck in the contest!
  22. Great landscaping, minifig posing and photography! Well done! A tiny word of advice: in one of the pictures the lack of ground underneath the elevated part is visible, try to get at least two full sides "photography friendly" and you will have more options of selecting camera angles for the overview shot as well! (I'm probably going to borrow that desert elevation design to some Kaliphlin build )
  23. Is all of that Kabel's work? Nice harbor regardless Was Mpya Stedor also on the exhibition? I guess 6k+ visitors will have contributed with a fair bit of dust
  24. The final version looks really good, I have not seen all the previous versions but from the discussion it looks like you've listened to feedback and improved the build. Keep it up! I like the closeup shot of the non-humans a lot, but a hint when you do closeups (especially of black pieces) is to dust the build off first. I either use canned air from the hardware store (a bit expensive but very effective) or the vacuum cleaner with a net on the inlet (as I've shown here).
