Great to have you back here de Gothia! -
I like your semi-oldschool building style (maybe it's the figs who give me that impression?) and unexpected stories!

ANNOUNCING: Guilds of Historica Book II: The Civil War
Gideon replied to ZCerberus's topic in Guilds of Historica
I've not had much brick time at all lately, and the little time I've had I have put into the builds i just posted. I'm going to try to catch up on all the recent builds the coming days. -
Great idea! I will surely check in on this thread until christmas I really like the microscale building, simple but effective!

UP DH credit for brick-built animals: Definitely +1

Thanks! Looks like I did the only entry for this category? At least I think it's not December 1st anywhere in the world still...? Anyway, if anyone has a build for this category up his/her sleeve and did not make the deadline...by all means post it as well! Fair enough, I did not know if this was even possible to consider as a roofing technique but figured I'd try to make a claim . Maybe a whole house (i.e. with all walls) with a flat "middle eastern" roof and a hatch/stair etc would count?

Book II - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Gideon replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
Finally I've had time to to some building for Kaliphlin, a couple of last-minute entries for the L&DiK mini-challenge. -
Kaligem was once the capital of Kaliphlin and for a time of an empire once encompassing all of Historica. Every child in Kaliphlin knows about it, but how the city actually looked is not known as no reliable depictions of it survives and it’s location is still not known (even though there are disputed claims that the ruins have been found). Often Kaligem is drawn as a walled city with soaring towers and golden domes, with a river flowing through the city. In a traditional Kaliphlin Wizards and Princess deck of cards, card XVI is called Kaligem. Another view: UPDH Credits claimed: General Building (Other Techniques): Microscale

My entry for the first challenge, "The Big Day" showing a candidate being accepted into the city guard of Barqa: If in this very moment the graduating guardsman would have had his fortune read, the deck would have shown the following cards: The Cat: For growing up in the back alleys of the city and learning to catch rats at an early age to help feed the family The Emperor (or perhaps Kaligem): Signifying his service to the city and the realm The Sandstorm (or perhaps even Death): For the horrors in store in the Kaliphlin civil war... My entry for the second challenge, "Card XVI: Kaligem"

Garidas was born in one of the poorest districts of Barqa. While he has his fair share of thievery in his background, his dream has always been to one day join the ranks of the Barqan city guard. This force acts both as the constabulary of Barqa and as a standing army fiercely loyal to its city council. As many other Kaliphlin soldiers, they are recognized by the characteristic spiked helmets. Their uniform is also similar to that of many other official forces in Kaliphlin. The plume is awarded after a guard's first full period of duty, and the blue arms of the senior guardsmen mark them as first-class soldiers which the new recruits and junior guards still have a lot to prove before they earn. While not always the weapon they carry in everyday duty, the gladius is the traditional weapon of the Barqan soldiers and the symbol of their duty. A guardsman will keep his gladius in a spotless condition, and it is a great shame to lose this weapon. This day, Garidas’ dream has come true. Along with a few other young men, he is receiving his gladius and helmet from the commanding officer of the North-Western Sector Guards at this force’s barracks in the heart of the sector. Little do these proud young men know what their duty will have them facing in the Kaliphlin civil war looming on the horizon... If in this very moment Garidas would have had his fortune read, the deck would have shown the following cards: The Cat: For growing up in the back alleys of the city and learning to catch rats at an early age to help feed the family The Emperor (or perhaps Kaligem): Signifying his service to the city and the realm The Sandstorm (or perhaps even Death): For the horrors in store in the Kaliphlin civil war... Some spectators have been allowed into the barracks, and are watching the ceremony from the roof of the armory. I also claim UPDH credits for the following subjects: Military Science: Military camp (barracks in this case) Anthropology: Life in Kaliphlin Architecture: Advanced windows and window frames (for the half-stud offset window frames with curved top and SNOT details and for the flower boxes below the upper level windows) Architecture: Roofing (flat Kaliphlin style tiled roof)

Wonderful dragon! And the background also looks great

I agree with Lord Vladivus that the sandscaping is great, a pity the size limit does not allow that to be counted in the entry... The design of the sun is just brilliant (no pun intended), very clever NPU

Great little build, and great use of what looks like a good portion of legacy pieces Black falcons are probably my favourite classic faction. I like the small stone table and the minifig posing
-
Classic Legonardo build, just even better than usual Your housebuilding style really is one of the most awesome out there and the added winter elements just made it even better! Keep up the good work and good luck in the CCC!

Book II - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Gideon replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
I don't think sticking the thread is a good idea, the number of those threads should be kept at a minimum. But we can keep the thread from descending into forgotten history by ensuring that people keep submitting builds for review at a high rate Regarding claims I think we should expect that participants post their claims both in the common thread and also state the claims in the MOC thread (preferrably at the end of the first post or in a dedicated post) so that it is easy for the reviewers to see what they should be judging. -

Book II - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Gideon replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
Sounds like a very good idea, as I think getting the feedback quickly really helps in encouraging builders to continue in the program A weekly post like yours here is a great way to point out builds which might have decended in the forum without it's sufficient amount of votes, so that the people here in Kaliphlin eligible to vote doesn't miss them. It's not that much work so I think you can just throw the question out when it's time and then have someone pick it up for the next month or so. -
Great work with the snow and the houses, the whole build has a very realistic look to it You've really managed to nail the Norse feeling with the walls and roof rakes on those houses! Sure +1 and +1 to that!

Book II - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Gideon replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
So many ideas, so little time... At least I've made an entry to the "Life and Death in Kaliphlin" mini-challenge second category, just some photography work to do as well before Sunday. I probably won't be able to make an entry for the first category in time for the deadline however, since I'm pretty sure my wife will have me do a lot of decorating the house this weekend -

Reaching the amount is no issue, deciding how to use it best is the challenge
