I sense a lot of improvement already, keep it up! The minifig posing is good, I especially like the officer heading out on the training yard. He looks a bit Kaliphlin by the way On the photography side your photos are definitely sharper than before, even thous they still are very dim. Have you checked that the lens is clean? Good backdrop, continue using that! I however would advice you to rotate your build rather than the camera angle when shooting different angles, so you don't get parts of the picture missing the backdrop.

Kaliphlin vs. Mitgardia (Microfigure Tournament)
Gideon replied to Kai NRG's topic in Guilds of Historica
Yes, at least viewing from the front where you get some FP effect it looks like they are a bit larger than they actually are Irregular SNOT base, never thought of that...must try that some day -

Sorry to hear that, are you going to be away from your bricks? (Or just focusing on he challenge...? ) -
Kaliphlin vs. Mitgardia (Microfigure Tournament)
Gideon replied to Kai NRG's topic in Guilds of Historica
Lovely build, you really know how to pose those microfigs for a good scene! And the rubber bands holding the weapons is a great idea I also like the tents a lot, even if they seem a tad too small even for the microfigs. The color of the base does not bother me (wasn't this tournament held in Kaliphlin? ), but some variation in color and/or structure of the ground would have been nice. -
Very nice idea and build! The size is big enough to be believable "true minifig scale" and especially the exterior and upper floor is wonderful

The problem with the pins are the flanges at the end, which can easily jam at the small groove at the edge of the technic hole. With a axle pin in a round hole it will not jam at all, but then as I described above you will of course need something else holding the modules together...but as that is needed anyway I think the axle pin is the better choice Good luck with your and DM's collab! Looking forward to pictures!

Book II - Mitgardia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Gideon replied to Ecclesiastes's topic in Guilds of Historica
Thanks! I will try to remember that when next I visit a Lego store! I usually just pick some heads and legs at random to go with the torsos and accessories I really want...and then I usually think that it is expensive and not worth taking the time instead of spending it at the PaB wall -

They let you buy only a bunch of torsos instead of full assembled minifigs? -

I agree, but I don't see any reason Ska needs to try to persuade the powers that be to give out a tag to anyone else than Kaliphlins -
My 3x4 baseplate castle has unfortunately already been shown in public, but I might try to get entries into some of the smaller categories

Thanks! Kabel, we are not living nearby each other...indeed it is more than 600 km from where I live to the farthest away builder in this project. This was the first time any of these modules were in the same room, but we apparently did a good enough job in our forum coordinating this We found out however that technic pins are not strong enough to keep the modules together, we had to add plates on the joints to force the modules together. Many pins at the same time are are also really hard to align when connecting the modules. Next time we display this (hopefully at Lego World 2014 in Copenhagen in February if we get accepted there, anyone else going there btw?? ) we will put the modules together with axle pins in "pin holes" just for alignment and then use plates to keep the modules together.

Book II - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Gideon replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
In the "in game" context, I don't see any problem at all to include characters from other guilds as students...on the contrary I think it fits Kaliphlin very well to have an academic tradition of students from all over Historica! Its the competitive edge in the scoring system we erode when we open up to other members. But I don't think it's a big problem, since they would of course have been able to build those free-builds anyway Anyway, seeing how successful AoM has been in producing free-builds I am really keen on getting this going! -
Book II - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Gideon replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
That looks perfect Gabe! I'm inclined to agree that it's a bit counterproductive that the free-building project we run will also drive competing free-building in the other guilds. But for GoH as a whole this project is of course awesome! So some extra perk for Kaliphlin members (maybe that only Kaliphlin members can earn the tag) would probably be in order. -

I have to reluctantly agree, ending up on the "wrong" side has forced me out of my confort zone as well. Looking forward to building for the real dark side of Nocturnus! Regarding the challenge btw, are there any Black Spire Kaliphlins who want to share a PM conversation to discuss ideas and later WIPs? -
Welcome to GoH! This was an opening to be proud of I sadly have to agree that this seems to fit into Mitgardia best, even though there are a lot of snow up in the Rakath Mountains of Kaliphlin as well

This was a bit unexpected, but a great idea! Lovely work on the ground, I really like that color scheme!
-
Nice suspended tension there A word of advice on photography: turn the flash off and get more light from another source (preferrably natural light, but not direct sunlight)
-
Really nice build! I think you've done a great work with the ground, especially the path. I also like the door design, but agree with SK that the area over the door maybe would have benefited from more detailing or at least using more small pieces to get more texture.
