This is really how I remember imagining Avalonia from back when I first started reading about GoH. A nice series of builds and a good description, great work! Btw, I've always wondered what the origin of the island's name is since Hemresa literally means "journey home" in Swedish?

Well built landscape and a lot of action, good job! UoP +1 for both claims. -

Lovely! Are these parts of a larger project?- 15 replies

No objections here, great if that part of Kaliphlin gets more attention! Will we see some more Pharao's Quest parts be used...? I think the city is usually referred to as Ras-el-Akhen in the most common Kaliphlin tounge, if we are thinking of the same city in the Qar-Akhen delta? -
Lovely set of builds and a good description. The wall in the last shot seems to hint at a substantial structure, is it the coutryard of a fairly sized castle (since there are no larger cities)? Keep these builds coming!

Avalonia - free build - Hemresa Agriculture

Very nice farm, the field looks good and the small house has a very appealing angle of the roof. I too am interested in knowing if the technic parts are hinting about more modules...?- 15 replies

Reflections in lego bricks are nasty, especially since historical builds tend to show mostly supposedly non-shiny materials... It can be remedied with Photoshop/GIMP of course, but that's most probably more time consuming than setting up the right conditions at the original shot

Good job with the landscaping! I also like that tree technique a lot, simple but very efficient Great choice of hair pieces for the figs also. UoP +1 for the claims. A small note on the photography: when using a small light source as it seems you did (judging by the shadows) its easy to get glare in the flat surfaces. Try to use more dim light sources, or at least turn the build or parts of it to avoid the strongest reflections. I'm mentioning this because the snowshoes almost look printed white Turning them a few degrees compared to the camera would probably have removed that. Good luck in the challenge!

Good start of the new series! Your mix of oldschool figs and modern landscaping and construction techniques make a quite unique style, I'm eager to see how this progresses! Heads with solid studs look much better as bald heads by the way, rather than having a hole in the head...

Challenge I Category B: The Watcher's Tower
Gideon replied to Infernum's topic in Guilds of Historica
Lots of nice details, well done! I especially like the texturing on the walls. The overall feel is great, although my limited imagination struggles a bit when all the battlements visible are "pointed inwards", I assume that a similar set or even more impressive is "to be imagined pointed outwards"?- 20 replies

Wonderful build, this is the level all phase 3 builds should be This MOC reminds me of the old "guarded inn" set, but at a much more realistic scale. Your attention to detail and story writing are excellent. Keep the builds coming!

I did not know that the Black Spire commanded such fierce creatures, great to see this addition to its forces! The cliff looks wonderful as well, I really like the subtle addition of leaning parts in the cliffs UoP +1.

Very nice build overall, and many nice details! The unorthodox base shape also looks very good. Good luck in the challenge! Definitely UoP +1 for all the credits claimed. Havn't thought about claiming a credit for a roof technique as well?

Book II - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Gideon replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
Thanks! When it comes to the size of the city and it's ports, I'm looking a lot at maps of ancient Alexandria...also a major shipping hub at the mouth of a major river. The plantations north of the city surrounded by the last bend of the Arkbri looks like its located on very fertile soil, possibly a flood plain. How is progress on your new city Aden's Gate by the way? Do the Knights of Aslan still retain a presence in Barqa? From what I've read, it looks as Lion's Bluff was damaged (or destroyed?) in the elemental attacks...has it been rebuilt? -
Well written story and excellent lighting, looking forward to more from you!

Sturdy little wall and I like the vegetation on the wall and on the ground. Those windows however look large enough that an orc minifig might sneak through? Now when you've shown that your camera with proper handling can take sharp pictures, please stop posting bad pictures (like the second last one here). I will also continue to encourage you to shut off the flash and solve the lighting in a better way.

Good start and nice idea with a wizard's tower! I like the hideout look of this build. Looks like some strengthening of the base might be needed as well to support a soaring tower

Book II-Chapter I-Category C: Golem's Dungeon
Gideon replied to lisqr's topic in Guilds of Historica
Castlevania is what immediately came to my mind when seeing the first pics Innovative approach to make a "story-MOC" of this kind, with a "video game look" Some parts like the floor are a bit repetative, but that could of course also signify a well-built structure The photography is excellent by the way. -

Exactly the same state as I'm in now Not sure if I will have time to make any serious attempt at more than A and B though... -
Goods on its way to Kaliphlin down a tributary of the mighty Arkbri river?

Lots of interesting details, and you've done a good job creating the right atmosphere

That's the kind of trees that fits the deep Avalonian forests, how many leaf pieces would it require to make the branches with leaves of that one? I like the color mix a lot as well, need to get more LotR leaves! (And the new Hobbit figs)

I love that snow technique, especially when photographed sideways and largely out of focus like that

Very nice series of builds/photos! UoP +1 for the tree
