The position and future of Friends and minidolls in Lego?
badbob001 replied to Dorayaki's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I wonder what were the considerations for making the legs a single piece instead of two. Certainly for skirts, it would look weird for it to split in the middle. Dresses, like the ones introduced in the new Disney Princess sets, would need to revert back to being one-piece (I wonder when will the Friends get dresses? High-school prom set?). They could have made skirts and dresses be snap-ons but I guess that may infringe too much into the Polly Pocket territory, not to mention the 'underwear' territory. -
The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion

Can we gleem anything from the game box? I'm starting to think that the piece on Emmet's back is new. Stud on one end and circular hole on the other? And it must have a square or circular hole in the center to attach to the back bracket. Is such a piece useful? I wonder if we will get a police horse with that cool headgear. And it looks like the sets will have the shooting guns that were revealed in the 2014 Star Wars sets. The ship flying in the left appears to be the Ice Cream Truck.- 2,626 replies

I think the DUPLO target audience is less likely to cry bloody murder to changes to their beloved collectible toy. The DUPLO figure itself has gone through lots of changes while the System minifigure has stayed very much the same in overall design. The first DUPLO figures had white skin.
-
My point is not to compare the complexity of LEGO castles but to compare the complexity of these sets with Friends. If the these sets are set at the same 6-12 age group as Friends sets and use the same minidolls as Friends sets, then it seems like the Friends audience is an obvious potential buyer of these new sets. Why alienate that Friends audience by dumbing down the design? If the Friends line is doing well, then it would be great to give those fans another theme to buy from. Or did the Friends LEGO team not want the Disney LEGO team to compete with them? Or did LEGO want these sets to come out in time for the holidays and got someone from the DUPLO team to finalize the designs? (kidding, love you DUPLO team!) Olivia's House is for 6-12 and its design is much more well thought out and full of little details.

Are these heads hard ABS plastic or soft rubber like some one-off hair pieces?
-
It's possible the sellers weeded out damaged parts from their inventory. Then again, as you hinted, maybe someone took the first box of the shelf and treated it like a maraca.
-
I would be curious to see if they are excluding the exclusives and hard-to-find sets such as the modular buildings, ewok village, death star, etc. If so, it would be hard to buy enough smaller sets to reach the limit.
-
The released boxes for these sets says ages 6-12, which is the same as much of the Friend's sets. So it seems to be wrong to say that these sets are simpler because they are aimed at a younger audience.

I think rriggs is referring to these differences from the real ship:

LEGO® CUUSOO 空想 - Turn your model wishes into reality
badbob001 replied to CopMike's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I read this article on gizmodo where someone had custom-made Death Star-ish tiles for a home theatre: I thought of the existing minecraft micro-scale sets and then thought that someone should cuusoo a set of these tiles full of greeble goodness. Buy several set of these to form a cool landscape that will go well with micro-scale star wars ships. Under the tiles, you can have cut-away sections of floors showing off a micro-scale slice of life on the Death Star. Buy four sets to form the complete circular laser disk. Trench sections! The emperor's tower. Find out where those bottomless pits go. So that is where the bathrooms are. Another cuusoo of all bluish-gray! Buying 16 sets allows you to arrange a secret mosaic of George Lucas! -

I think so. From that one frame alone, I can see the fire station, the green grocer, market street, and possibly the town hall. I'm surprised no one here has written a frame by frame analysis of the trailer.- 2,626 replies

LEGO® CUUSOO 空想 - Turn your model wishes into reality
badbob001 replied to CopMike's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I suspect if they go with the Ghostbusters set, they will just produce Ecto1, similar to how they just did the car from BTTF. This can then start a tradition of famous LEGO movie cars. It's too bad Bladerunner is too adult for TLG since a police spinner would fit into this theme. This was a cuusoo project that LEGO deleted: Interesting enough, LEGO did make a one-off as a gift to Syd Mead. Since this came from LEGO itself, I wonder if they still needed to ask permission or acquire an one-time license from the owners of the movie brand. -
Lots of lovely details here. I'm surprised the floors can extend out so far and not bend a bit without support. I don't remember from the movie, but does the office window look down to the R&D department? If so, it may look better to expand the window wall more. And I didn't know the secret lab door leads to an elevator if you didn't mention it. Does the bookcase have a secret door to the elevator?

The movie sypnosis page refers to Wyldstyle as Lucy: http://www.lego.com/...xplore/synopsis I guess when Emmet gets to know Wyldstyle better, she'll ask him to call her Lucy. But I suspect he won't be calling Batman Bruce any time soon. I wonder what one has to gain from 'gluing' everything together. I suppose you can sell more products if the consumers can't build it themselves.- 2,626 replies

In the world of Hero Factory, is it a world of just robots or are the robots built for people that we never see? Just curious.

The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion
badbob001 replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
It will be interesting to find out if the vehicles were first designed for the movie and then later ported to real sets. Or first designed with real lego bricks and then recreated in the movie. It's seems like a major design guide for the movie is to not cheat and to have realistic LEGO builds and movements (excusing the sometimes impossible but needed movement of minifigure arms). I would not be surprised if they used something equivalent to LDD to get practical builds and then imported the models into the movie.- 2,626 replies

The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion

Would it be a first for LEGO if you have to buy each of the sets to collect parts to make a combined model? They can also divide up the pages of the combined model's instructions among the sets. It would be cool if all the pieces from the black Micro Managers can be used to make the Batmobile. Maybe this is thinking too far ahead, but I wonder what cool figure they will include in the DVD/Bluray release.- 2,626 replies

My guess is that Emmet's red block on his back is actually an 'i' (for imagination) and anything it touches get transformed into something wacky. Wait a sec, didn't the Transformer movie have something similar where anything it touches will turn into a transformer? Hmm.- 2,626 replies

The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion

With all the vehicles, I suspect a big scene in the movie involves some sort of cannonball-run-esk race or an attack run by a rag tag collection of heroes. Most of the vehicles transform into an alternate/attack mode, which is pretty cool and reminds of me of galaxy squad. And it looks like Wyldstyle will have a new hoody that has her signature hair peeking. Must get that!- 2,626 replies

The price per piece is pretty bad.

This looks pretty cool. Is this based on any real gas stations? I've never seen a gas station with an overhead parking lot and I would feel rather claustrophobic under there. I think you could bring down the second floor and put it side-by-side with the firs and it'll still look good. One detail I wished it had were stairs to the second floor.

The same thing was done with the Corner Cafe (of course, it's by the same designer):
