  1. Wasn't there a rumor that we'll get the batman wing plane? That gives me a little hope for larger sets such as a copper-chopper.
  2. I'm most disappointed with the cop chase set because I really want that motorcycle to be attached to a massive twin-rotor helicopter. And the car seems a bit bland.
  3. I'm not letting any compact fluorescent-based lighting near my lego displays since they produce UV that can permanently alter the color of bricks. I'm using LED lights now. I'm not sure if it's possible to have a full-spectrum light that excludes UV because UV may be desired for 'full spectrum'.
  4. By itself, this set seems rather small. But it becomes more interesting when combined with the October holiday free set. I hope the December free set further expands the layout.
  5. It really depends on how much chest hair you want on your PI. Magnum PI Sam Spade As for the car... I think the Ferrari will get stolen off the street since we don't have a Police Station modular.
  6. That sounds more like Magnum PI than Sam Spade. Given the early 20th century feel of the other modulars, I doubt it'll be the former in style.
  7. I doubt it would be for Jurassic World since it doesn't make sense for LEGO to announce anything about the movie, let alone show anything, before even the movie studio does. My bet is Minecraft.
  8. Would it be out of character of a modular to have a play feature where there is a break-away wall section going from the Chinese laundry to the adjacent bank?
  9. From what I understand, three of the houses share a common "base" and so mainly the front exterior needs to be built and attached. http://www.brickpick...-own-lego-town/ The corner store looks rather detailed, but if the last three houses above represent the remaining three modulars, then they are rather plain but do suggest the use of a common 'base' and explains the reduced number of pages.
  10. I had considered the mini-modulars but thought it was priced way too high given what you get. It's funny, but now that it's no longer available, I have a little regret. :) And I would probably feel much worse if they release another mini-modular set.
  11. I'm only repairing broken pieces, namely the clip on the motorcycle, the clip on some duplo wheel base, and broken plant parts. Not sure if cracked cheese slopes and headlight bricks can be repaired.
  12. I suspect it's not uncommon for some people to buy at least three of each set: one to build as intended and display one for parts one unopened for archive I don't do this but I knew someone that did something similar with Car & Driver magazines (read, cut-up, preserve).
  13. I want to repair some cracked or separated bricks so I bought a can of MEK (my can, named weld-on c-65 cleaner, contains acetone + methyl ethyl ketone + cyclohexanone), but how do I actually apply it? I thought I could use things like toothpicks or cotton swabs. But to be safe, I searched for some info. I saw a video on using acetone to glue acrylics and they said a cotton swab will not work since it'll dry before one can apply the two pieces together. My can of MEK also has acetone so will the same problem still happen? The video says to use a needle syringe, which I don't have on hand (I do have some baby medicine syringes but they don't have a needle). Does putting MEK into a syringe essentially ruin the syringe and make it a one-time use item? How about something silly like inserting cocktail straw into the can and holding my thumb over one end to keep the MEK in the straw before application?
  14. Yes. It was posted in this thread: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=92300&st=50
  15. My main train of thought regarding future-urban was to take existing town sets and futurize them. So I can easily imagine the police sets futurized into the Lego Movie police versions. Naturally, fire trucks will be next to be futurized. And then perhaps delivery trucks can be replace with this non-real set: I'm not into construction vehicles, but this could be an extreme replacement for them: Now if LEGO decides to create Futurama sets, then that would be cool in the retro-future sense.
  16. Is anyone collecting certain Lego Movie sets for the future-urban vehicles? Specifically, the sets with police vehicles: I may be mistaken, but I don't think Lego has released sets concerning a future-setting on earth. They have space sets, mech sets, and secret agent sets, but those are usually too wacky to easily fit into a town environment. But I can totally see Lego Movie police vehicles fitting in and reminds me of future-setting movies such as Bladerunner or Akira. And these police vehicles are somewhat militaristic in design and allows Lego to design those type of vehicles without violating their ban on "modern" military vehicles outside of a licensed line. I hope more similar vehicles will be produced (like the twin propeller copter + chopper). I can't wait to build these sets and have them patrol my modular buildings block.
  17. Casino are usually for people aged 18+, which is above the age range of Lego sets. The same with bars, night clubs, and possibly pawn shops. The problem with those building types is that the exterior will likely just look like the Town Hall. I'm rooting for smaller-scale buildings such as a book store, diner/milkshake shop, or antique store. I rather have a smaller building (ala PR) that is backed with details, which is much more fun to build. But if you need more scale, you can simply add more floors. Win Win.
  18. I am so overwhelmed with rage right now... ...why aren't the arms the same length?
  19. I wonder if much of the LEGO club magazine content is the same for multiple countries, hence the inclusion of sets that may not be released.
  20. There are a lot of factors that may affect when you make a LEGO purchase, which helps you manage your budget: When will the set go EOL? Some sets may only have one production run and so you may want to get those early, especially if scalpers are doing the same. But if the set will likely be on the shelves for a year or more, you can delay your purchase. For example, the Parisian Restaurant sucked me into the Modular Building line but I that will be the last Modular set I will buy because it will still be around for some time. Which store will you buy the set from? If the set is not a LEGO store exclusive, then you may be able to get better discounts from other retailers when they have sales or you have a charge card that offers cash-back or a discount. For example, I rather get 5% discount from Target than 5% VIP points from LEGO when purchasing smaller sets. And there are websites like ebates that give you cash-back for linking to the store through them. Then again, buying from LEGO directly is not a bad idea if you're going to use the savings to buy more anyway and that month has a nice freebie. It may be a good idea to set aside funds for a big one-time purchase because you never know when there might be a sudden sale or deal or coupon. For example, LEGO had triple VIP points on Black Friday, which is a good time to buy exclusives and large sets. And if you find yourself buying sets and then having them sit opened for months, then maybe you should spend more time building than buying.
  21. I finally got the correctly spelled piece from LEGO. When I went to replace the part in my model, I noticed that ALL the grey 1x1 cheese slopes are cracked. That is about 10 slopes. Will LEGO replace all of them? Should I even bother if I'll just end up with 20 cracked cheese slopes? I'm don't think I want to even check my other models for similar cracks.
  22. I find it amusing to see so many city layouts sitting on dining tables or kitchen counters. Unless you're living alone, I suspect that arrangement is brief and tense.
  23. This year, there is quite a lot of competition in terms of mech sets: agents, chima, ninjago, and lego movie. I'm not sure this mech will stand out for the kids so it's really for the AFOL.
