If you still have the cardboard boxes that the IKEA parts came in, you can simply cut a piece to cover the top of your shelf and bend up the back to form a 90 degrees short wall to keep parts from rolling into the back. Since many of the uses of IKEA furniture featured involves putting the buildings ON TOP instead of within, it seems to indicate that IKEA furniture may not be exactly ideal. I have a 5x5 expedit and the shelves are not tall enough to fit most of the modulars without ripping off some of the top bits. And modulars look best when connected to each other and the shelf dividers prevent that. I've modified my expedit by removing the dividers but I can't do anything about the height (I have a photo earlier in this thread). IKEA does have a nice (and cheap) vertical all-glass display case (detolf), but the shelves are not adjustable (I think each shelf offers about 16 inches and you need at least 30 inches for the Town Hall). If only this case was a little bigger and horizontal. (Someone moded two detolf cases together: http://www.tofunction.com/model/2011/02/detolf-dual-mod/)

The tree is actually a play feature. In one of the back pages of the instruction book, it shows these sets in a row: Cafe Corner, Green Grocer, and Fire Brigade. The white cat from the Green Grocer is stuck on the tree and the ladder from the Fire Brigade is just tall enough to reach it: http://bricks.argz.com/bricksfiles/lego/10000/10197/079.jpg I wish the tree wasn't so hard to accidentally knock down.

I just completed this set and it was pretty good, though this modular seems to have a tedious amount of 1x2 and 1x1 plates in the walls. A dark tan 1x2 plate was missing so that was slightly annoying. I love how the second floor has so much furniture and I've left those fun little builds for my daughter, who finds the rest of the building not as exciting. There were certain parts of the build where it'll call for many smaller pieces when a single larger piece would do and I would initially think this was a way to purposely drive up the piece count. But my experience with 'Lots' in Bricklink tells me it's probably cheaper to have one Lot of many smaller pieces than to have several Lots of different pieces. The standout weak spot is the tree, but I'm not sure how it could be improved given the small amount of space. One of the back pages of the instruction booklet shows the Midieval Market Village with its rather nice tree, but that won't fit in the sidewalk. The firetruck is not so bad and matches the type of the time: But the design goes downhill when you get to the empty void above the rear wheels. Certainly a few more pieces would help the truck immensely. I too noticed the lack of a bathroom and beds, but realized that you can remedy that by just adding another modular middle section. Anybody buy more than one fire brigade? LEGO should have a direct-sell service of just selling the middle floor of these modulars. Found these cool mods of the Fire Brigade that fixes some of the negatives: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=86155 http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=68810

Does regular room lighting cause Lego to yellow?
badbob001 replied to Aethersprite's topic in General LEGO Discussion
In the room where I have my LEGO displayed, I've replaced all the compact-florescent bulbs with LED bulbs. I also plan to put UV-blocked sheets over the window panes. -
Would this be the cheat sheet? From here: http://scottparkillustration.tumblr.com/

Next CUUSOO set: 21103 Back to the Futureâ„¢ Time Machine
badbob001 replied to Blakstone's topic in LEGO Licensed
Just curious but do current releases of the set have the correctly spelled flux-capacitor piece? Has anyone gotten the correct replacement piece from LEGO? I failed two times to get the correct replacement piece from LEGO and am unsure if it is the right time to try again. -
How do you store your instructions?
badbob001 replied to ResIpsaLoquitur's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Stacking or storing in folders seems to cause the instructions to curl, so I keep them nice and flat in a 4-inch binder with sheet protectors filled with a rigid card-stock sheet. Next CUUSOO set: 21103 Back to the Futureâ„¢ Time Machine

See my pics a few posts up. I added jumper plates to get the spacing right and the roof height needs to be raised by one plate. -
Does anybody know when this polybag will be available (in the US)?

I think that including the firestation in the project may have held back the winning project and help promote the other one. For people that are familiar with how cuusoo works, they will see the large firestation and view it as a potential disqualifier (too expensive, meant for a followup set, etc). Now that they think there is no way this project will win, they put their votes to a similar project now that they are all excited about the potential license. Maybe they should have a secondary round of votes for tied projects.

It seems like the current winning Ghostbuster set got picked because it got to 10K first. But what if the other set got to 10K first? I like the car design of the winning set much more in comparison to the other one, but would LEGO be forced to go with the winning design even if it may not be the best? I know LEGO will tweak the design but I'm not sure if they will be willing to revamp the entire design (minecraft may be the exception). Sometimes I'm afraid that people are voting for a project not because they think the design is the best but because they simply want LEGO to obtain the license and hope it leads to better sets. Also, what if some people think that voting for similar projects will somehow improve the chance that SOMETHING gets through by blanket-effect?

Hmm, I guess for those periods, they don't even bother to make a video saying that every candidate got rejected? It just seems to me from just watching the cuusoo vidoes, something gets picked every time.

I think the trailer of the old HQ truck is much better. But forget all that: I MUST HAVE that pink ponytail hair piece!

I'm curious but does every review period have to produce a winner? With the exo-suit, ghostbusters, and more being considered (such as the girls mf set), then it seems like there would be at least three cuusoo sets a year. Is cuusoo going faster than before because I don't seem to remember cuusoo sets coming out so quickly?

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
badbob001 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I think it would be neat if they have a building where you can put inside the mini-modular buildings to represent a scaled model map of the town. This may work for a Museum-type building. -
Unicorn horns 'not right' for current horse helmet?
badbob001 posted a topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I just bought some unicorn horns for the newer horse helmets and they don't go in flush. I don't see another variant of the unicorn horn so I'm not sure if better fitting horns exist. Unless my horns are fakes. -

Even though the Simpson's House box says it's for ages 12+, I think the current majority viewers of Simpsons is at least 18. So the Simpson's line may not be aimed toward the usual LEGO demographic of kids but rather the AFOL, who are more likely to spend more to collect these. I certainly don't consider it a kids show and would limit it to at least teenagers, but I'm not sure if teenagers now would be interested. I recently came out from the Dark Ages, started small with the CMFs and then jumped to the opposite extreme of collecting the Modulars. Before I even considered buying anything, I needed to have a place store my sets so they can be displayed instead of being dismantled, kept tidy to please the misses, and protected from dust and direct sunlight. I definitely wanted something horizontal so I could connect the modulars together. I already have a 5x5 expedite bookcase so I modified it to suit my needs by removing the shelve dividers from the top row (they line the back now) and added an ikea billy glass door, turned sideways. The shelves are not tall enough to hold the tall modulars fully, so I have to remove some root bits to fit. I still have the other modulars in their boxes to be built, so it will be interesting how the town hall will look after I chop it down. I'm not sure what I'm going to do when I run out of space. I could replace the small white shelf doors with glass ones and store a modular in each cubby-hole. You can read about my rudimentary 'hack' here: http://www.ikeafans....t-bookcase.html Maybe when I need the space, I'll get a few ikea detolf glass cabinets like this. I wish they made horizontal version of these cabinets. I also was curious if I could find a large coffee table-like glass cabinet so I could display the modules connected together as a city block and view it from above like a map model. But I would be nervous having all that glass in the middle of the living room... with the kids. This hack of an ikea granas coffee table is similar to what I had in mind: Probably a good to keep major expansion plans in check until I need the space because I may well find myself giving up my office/lego room to one of the kids and be banished to the basement. :)

You know what this means? I'm definitely getting this and all the related CMFs so I can have as much of those new dual-mold arms and legs as I can get. Yum! The garage is detachable. Speaking of tan bricks, this house would fit well next to Olivia's tan house. Maybe they can house swap.
-
In the video, he specifically says: "We have molded sleeves and shorts in the minifig." He mentions both the sleeves and shorts in the same sentence, which would imply that both are molded. I can accept that the arms are two pieces but the shorts definitely look printed. In the end, I bet both are simply painted but with much better opaque paint.
-
I saw the video too. Are the sleeves really molded or just painted? If molded, I would buy a set of just those arms in every color! :)

This is pretty cool. I'm sure your model of the main house is close to the same dimensions, but rendered, it looks rather small. Amazing what the camera lens can do for scale. The original garage looks wider, but that also may be an illusion. The original garage roof seems to be 3-4 studs longer on either side compared to yours.
