  1. the oddly colered bits represent L and Servo PF motors, which are not currently available in LDD. As you are building, just swap out the motors as you go. It is common for builders who use LDD to use impossible or odd colors to represent parts that are not available for whatever reason.
  2. I've heard that there is a rumor about there being a redesign or replacement of 3 power functions elements: The XL motor, the switch, and the standard remote. I'd like a proportional switch, and a proportionalremote with two sticks and return to center, but I'm not sure if that is likely. I'm thinking that the XL motor may not be replaced, but redesigned to have more mounting points, same with the switch. I also heard something about there being a massive overhaul of the pf system in general, but that seems very unlikely, and is for now an unsubstantiated rumor . Read more in this thread:http://www.eurobrick...pic=103596&st=0 Regardless of what happens, the flagship will probably have any new (or redesigned) PF elements, as has been tradition. Also, I heard that there was going to be an excavator set, what happened to that? Or are we getting both that and the fire plane thing? I say that the fire plane sounds kind of interesting, as long as it is not too similar to 42025. I'd also like it to be red and white, no yellow please.
  3. Actually, having the axles go 2 different speeds helps the car drift. If the rear axle is going faster than the front axle, than it wants to walk out in turns, creating the drift. Our main problem here is that the car is a little bit too slow. Also, I have 4 buggy motors, but I have only built one drifter, and I have no pictures of that. The primary reason I'm not building another one is you can't really drift on carpet.
  4. I don't. I feel as if some flagships could deal with a lot fewer pins. I want a lot of pneumatic. Even if the part count does not exceed 42009, it's going to be a very large set.
  5. Best Set: 42025 Cargo Plane. It's something new and interesting in Technic, and in a relatively uncommon color scheme as well. A close second would be Benny's Spaceship, or maybe the Exo-suit Worst Set: 79120 T-Rawket Sky Strike. I was going to say any of the Minecraft sets, but that's something else altogether. I think any of the TMNT sets that weren't for the live action version were great, the figures in particular. Except for this one. It's not that playable, and feels really small for a $35 set. 42029 Customized Pickup was also a candidate, because of the overall boring design, the lack of #3 angle connectors in red, and the lack of authenticity ;but it is redeemed by a very interesting b model, and being a good parts pack. Best Minifig: Benny. Just, Benny. I like how he's got a face that is close to an original minifig face, and a big smile on the other side. The green Classic Space minifigs from the Exo-suit are great as well. Other ones I liked are Unikitty, and, although not new, and technically not a fig either, the hedgehog from the Friends line. So Cute! Worst Minifig: Any of the live action TMNT figs, or the Simpsons ones. I just really do not like their designs. Best Theme:The Expert Creator stuff. It's not things that are normally my forte, but every set is great. The Lego Movie theme was also good, and so was Technic, but a lot of smaller sets were hit and miss, for both. Worst Theme: Minecraft. Minecraft. Megabluckin' Minecraft! The designs are terrible, there are a lot of annoying single use parts, and it's all anyone is talking about. I wish Lego would do any other theme besides this. This one takes the cake, because in this theme, all the sets are terrible. All of them. A close second would be Juniors. I think they are a little bit obnoxiously oversimplified. *crotchety old man voice* Back in my day, we didn't need no stinkin' simplified stuff to figure out how to build with Lego. Than again, Lego is a lot more complex than it was, so I think there should be some introductory stuff. But, do they seriously have to make virtually everything one piece? I think that is taking it a little to far. Another one is Fusion. Not a good building set, and an annoying app. Do we really want to encourage kids to be on the tablet even when they are building? Also, you can"t really expand the sets, or use your own bricks with them either. I'm going to actually add something else, for the Mocers out there: Best and Worst New Piece. Here are mine: Best piece: 3x5 H-shaped Technic liftarm. It's very useful in making strong structures, and mounting motors. Worst piece: Any of the Juniors parts, and any of the Minecraft tools and heads. All of these parts are ridiculously specific, and not very useful in creating. Also, best things and worst things that happened in this year: Best: The Lego Movie, which was great fun for me and my family. Also, the fact that there is another licensed flagship in Technic is a good thing. Worst: Delays and cancellations. The 2014 Technic sets were delayed until June, for some reason. Hopefully that does not happen again. Also, some Chima Constraction figures, as well as some of the Brain Attack Hero Factory figures only got limited release in some parts of the world, which was annoying, as some were pretty cool. Also, the fact that Lego is turning Minecraft into a dedicated theme. That just feels really redundant.
  6. You could certainly try, but in the long run, it's probably not that worth it. Working with electronics at this scale is kind of hard. Also, there is another alternative. It would be better than a DIY setup, and cheaper than a Lego one, but use a little batter powered string of LEDs. I've seen them at the craft store for only around 5-6 USD.
  7. I think I've seen a small vehicle with wishbone suspension and drive in front, but it had no differential. Also, if you're disappointed, get in touch with Efferman, and he could design you some new parts so that you are able to do what you want. with the advent of Shapeways, making new parts is easier than ever.
  8. All that chrome is delicious, and makes the models you built even more awesome. Must have cost a fortune though...
  9. I don't think that 8109 technically counts, because it is more of a tow truck and/or wrecker truck. Most people define a car carrier as being like this: For the sake of argument, yes, it would be difficult to make a set like this. However, I think it would be possible to make a flagship set of a car carrier, with 3 cars. For this to work, each car would be 200-300 pieces, and only have steering, and maybe a little fake engine. That would leave 1700-2000 parts left for the truck, if it were a 42009 size set, with 2600 pieces. Or, one could have something like this:
  10. Also, are we allowed more than one entry? I was thinking that would work, but you could only win once.
  11. Could an exception be made for non lego string? I think allowing it would be okay, as it could be replicated with Lego string, but certain people might not have it on hand.
  12. Shame we don't have a BMW license, cause I would buy an 1:8 i8 in a heartbeat. Same goes for the F70 (LaFerrari), but not the 918, which I think does not look as good. But according to the rumor, it's a Mercedes truck, which means we're not getting another racing vehicle. (thankfully. all of the racing sets for this year look like they came out of the reject bin, or are the b models for something cooler, save 42034.) I did a quick google search, and it turns out that Mercedes has an Axor Formula truck. Maybe we could get something like that, in silver, and have the B model be a Mercedes F1 car, kind of like 42000 in reverse. But, if that were the flagship, it better be a fast RC set with new, bigger motors, and a new radio control system , or insanely detailed, with a working, replicated sequential manual transmission. Personally, I want a silver, or black G63 AMG 6x6 with new wheels, that look correct, a proper gearbox, and six wheel drive. Wait, if that happened, wouldn't it be the first 6x6 Lego set, ever?
  13. I decided to look at Technicopedia to see if any forklift sets had used a chain like this, and it turns out, several have. But, they all use a wide track link as a connection, which you don't have. However, I have a couple of alternatives. The chain links will fit on any old hinge piece with 3 fingers It's a tight fit, and won't work loose easily. Also, you can hold the chain against a 16z gear, with this part. It's a cam piece, fairly common. What you do is put an axle through the offset hole, the middle one of the holes at the large end, put the 16z gear on that axle, then put the chain on. Finally, you hold the chain in place by putting an axle through the hole at the narrow end.
  14. That really depends on how you build it, but I'd say that, in general, a Technic cab would be lighter, simply because it would not need as much additional support.
  15. I'm more inclined to believe the latter. I put 8466 together when I was 8 or 9, so the ability is not the issue. If kids can't handle something like that, then Technic isn't for them, and it should be a simple as that. I think all to many people of this and the previous generation suck, for a number of reasons, and this is just one of many symptoms. Another is reality TV
  16. *Sigh* In a recent article on the comedy website Cracked.com, the Lego Friends line is, once again, called sexist. It's the 4th entry, read it here:http://www.cracked.com/quick-fixes/5-ridiculously-sexist-ways-toy-companies-are-targeting-kids/ and then start weeping. This guy talks about the Friends line as if it is something that is forced on little girls, but that's simply not true. What I've seen working at the Lego store is that very often, little girls, or their parents, go to the Friends section because that's what the girl wants to play with. Now, there are exceptions, but they are so uncommon that I cheer in my head when I see a girl going for City or Star Wars sets. That's why Lego made the Friends stuff in the first place, because they did market research and found out what most little girls want to play with. Now, some might argue that that would be catering to sexism, but I don't think that that is the case. Also, I think that Friends is a lot better than Belville, or Scala, the previous girl oriented Lego themes. So, what do you guys think?
  17. I actually think the reason is that nobody (Read: stupid kids) cares about whether or not the model is 4 wheel drive or not. They only care if the engine moves when they push the truck around. I really don't think that that is a demographic worth pursuing with Technic, but nobody at Lego shares that opinion. For a similar reason, that's why we don't see geared steering wheels, or proper dually wheels on trucks anymore. What makes this even worse is that one of the key components of Technic is Authenticity. Are they just going to admit that that's a crock, or what? Also, nowadays I think too much money in the set budget is being spent on bodywork. That's why I like some of the earlier studless models better, becasue they were more stylized, but still represented the functions and looks well.
  18. I'm waiting for the Helicarrier anxiously. Also, I'm kind of bummed that the quinnjet does not have the in wing rotors as seen in the movies. (Again.)
  19. The L350f is a mining front end loader, so if it were on a truck, I doubt that they would exceed 30 mph, maybe even less depending on local road laws. I've seen a couple of large trucks with smaller wheel loaders on them, and they aren't even going 45 mph on the highway.
  20. You're absolutely right. Every Lego model has a certain level of compromise in it. And one of those is between weight, and speed. If it's a heavy model, it will not go fast.
  21. I agree, or at least use wheel covers, either new molds or brick built. But yeah, new wheels would be great. Especially if they had good offset. I'd also like to see some better truck wheels, and maybe some realistic truck tires as well.
  22. You can slave two battery boxes together, and power the motors like that, but, Lego motors are designed to operate and 9 volts, and if that is exceeded, the motor would start frying.
  23. Yeah, some parts fitting together is not always obvious. Might I ask what you need this particular parts combo for?
  24. I'm sorry to say, but it feels like you're not looking for advice, but to validate your own bad idea. It just feels like you're not following what all of us have said so far. Also, if you post pictures, that will let us help you more. Also, even XL motors have trouble moving a vehicle if they are attached directly to the wheels.
  25. Are you using worm gears anywhere? also, what motor are you using? I think the best setup for you is 2 xl motors, geared down 3:1, with as direct a connection to the drive axles as possible.
