  1. 8480,anyone? The a model is a space shuttle, and the b model is a submarine
  2. If any of you have any surplus parts, like Power Puller wheels, pneumatic cylinder brackets, RC buggy motors, or parts in dark pearl gray, I'll gladly take them.....
  3. i did some difficult maths, and figured out that Minds-I components are about 1.25 times larger than Lego pieces, so I probably could use those leaf springs with Lego parts. I think this would be good to know.
  4. Well, if you want to upload images, just use a site like Brickshelf, Bricksafe, or Flickr. Then, it's fairly easy to link images. There's also a bunch of tutorials on another section of this site, about all kinds of things. 58 light pieces! I'm looking forward to seeing this.
  5. Pretty much, even if I have no actual experience with how it actually works within Lego. Also, after the year 2000 era, when Lego was having some tough times, I think the bean counters were being more conservative, and still are. I was thinking, since Lego is on top of the world again, could they maybe relax the budget limits a little bit?
  6. THEN WHY EVEN BOTHER SAYING SO IN THE FIRST PLACE ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!? Seriously, my day would be a lot better if I didn't know that somebody had pics, but could not share them. Or, you could make everyone's day and send a nice PM with the pics.
  7. How much money? I would think it could be something like "You can have part X in color Y, but that will reduce the part budget by 35 parts." for a larger set, that would not matter as much, but for a smaller one, it could be a deal breaker.
  8. Yes, where? Give them to me!!!2!1@!1!1!1!!!!!!!! Gimme, gimme, gimme!
  9. Oh yes, the initial version looks so much better, the only thing wrong with 42039 is that the prototype was cooler. Naturally, after seeing fan's reactions, they clamped down, to make sure that there is no disappointment.
  10. I actually liked how some of the older Technic sets were more skeletal, which placed more emphasis on the functions, and less on the looks. But, more relevant to the question, I think some sets have gotten simpler, but flagships have also gotten more complex, so it all balances out. I also agree with what everyone is saying about IR, and the design cycle.
  11. couldn't you just use a regular PF batterbox, like the smaller triple A kind? That should be fairly easy to build into a studded structure.
  12. Why would it be that horrid thing? Fans have been clamoring for the version from the Avengers, so I think (and hope) that's what we'll get.
  13. What, it's not a facepalm meme. Personally, I view gluing bricks and adding metal parts as unneeded and counter productive. Unless, of course you are making something for permanent display. Part of what makes Lego so great is the ability to take things apart, and use them for other things. And, if you do it right, you don't even need glue to hold things together. In my opinion, gluing things to reinforce them is a sign of an incompetent builder. But, if you want to do any of this, I'm not going to stop you. This is just my opinion on the matter.
  14. I actually had some people come in to the Lego store over the holidays, and ask for a nativity set, so there is a (niche) market for this kind of stuff. Doesn't Lego have a detailed fair play policy somewhere? could we maybe get a link to that?
  15. I honestly have no idea if the motors you are talking about are more or less powerful. It's hard to compare, because of the fact that Philo was measuring all the metrics from the complete motor, with gearbox and everything. But, if you want to go faster, I'd recommend not destroying the rare and valuable 5292 buggy motors, and modifying some other PF motors instead. Here are two threads discussing modifying motors and stuff: http://www.eurobrick... +modifications http://www.eurobrick...topic=90390&hl=
  16. It's technically possible, but it would be a bit difficult, as the drivetrain incorporates a number of thin 14z bevel gears, which are notorious for breaking. Also, the gearbox is not designed with motorization in mind, so you'd have to redesign that as well. In theory it can be done, but in order to do so you'd probably have to do a wholesale redesign of the drivetrain.
  17. I think this new car looks great. also, I think the reason that it looks so similar to other supercars is because of the fact that those supercars were inspired by the original GT-40.
  18. I have no idea, I think the pegs are not, due to them having those notches, and I think the holes are also larger. I was just thinking about this, if I were to get a set of Minds-i leaf springs, how much slack in the system there would be, and if the holes are even big enough. Edit: I've found another thread on these forums about this stuff, from when it first came out: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=51895
  19. The Minds-i system is actually not very much like Lego, and there would be no actual copyright infringement, as this would be more of a patent issue, and most Lego parts have had their design patent expire. From what I've heard, from a couple of reviews in a robotics magazine I subscribe to, the system works very well, but it obviously is not directed at people who are fans of Lego. It would be kind of cool if Minds-i were a competitor of Technic, but it's not. Although, there are several pieces Minds-i makes that I wish had Lego equivalents, like leaf springs, or some of these parts: I see a connector that would make perpendicular connections much stronger, a wishbone piece, and a liftarm with holes going in two different directions. Although, when it comes to making suspension A-arms, the primary problem is that we don't have a small piece with a ball socket.
  20. This picture looks much too good to be a prototype photo. I'm not discounting the possibility, but I think the grainy texture of the drum is caused by how the photo was taken.
  21. I'm wondering, does anyone have the instructions for the various RoboRider combo models? As in the ones that use three or more? I've spent quite a while looking for them, but they aren't really available anywhere. Does anybody have them, and if so, could you post a link? These are very rare, so you'd be doing every Lego constraction and Technic fan a favor.
  22. Not bloody well likely. That crane is longer than the entire truck, and weighs roughly twice as much. The actual crane is much smaller, but still has four sections. Even though the crane is shorter than the 42009 boom, it can actually extend farther. The big red crane is something else, another project that is on hold until this competition is over. i thank all of you guys for the compliments, I hope to post more progress tonight.
  23. With all of the other entries for the [TC6] SBrick contest, I thought I'd post some work in progress pictures of my own entry. Some time before the contest actually started, I was starting to build the chassis of a most unusual truck, a custom Kenworth C500 tridem-tridem with a Cormach 23000A loader crane, assembled by Falcon Industries of Canada. My model is not quite a straightforward replica, but more inspired by this machine. Initially, I was planning on making the model more like a flagship set, with no remote control, and just a single motor for all the crane functions. But, when I heard about the competition, I just had to adapt this model to enter. The model itself is about 30% complete, consisting mostly of the chassis, and some parts of the bodywork, including the unusual C500 engine hood. The model currently has the following features: Drive, via XL motor, to the rear three axles, and to a modeled V-12 engine. (not quite realistic, but it looks cool.) Steering on the front three axles via Servo motor, with differing angles between the axles. This is accomplished with steering arms of differing lengths. Lights, controlled via a switch. An opening hood, with two fold up panels on each side, and two removable panels, as for a real C500. Opening cabinets on either side, as on the real thing. (one has not been added yet.) I plan to add more features, including the crane itself, and the rest of the bodywork. The crane functions will be controlled with a function splitter, somewhat similar to 8043, but different, as the splitter only has two motors, but six outputs. Thus, for the purpose of the contest, the four functions are: Drive, via XL motor. Steer, via Servo motor. Function split control, via servo motor Function splitter, driven by XL motor, with six functions. (Raising the crane arm, bending the crane arm, extension, winching, slewing, and the outriggers.) Now, on to some more photos of the chassis. This shot shows the rear light cluster, but I've got a better shot. These two shots show how the hood opens, and the removable side panels. The engine actually has many details, including a supercharger, a cooling fan, an airtank, an oil filter, and a batter box, with wires. The battery box is the dbg box with two strings coming out of it, representing wires. This shot is in the dark, with the truck lights on. And now, the money shot, the underside, showing the different lengths of steering arms to get different steering angles, and the drive train to the rear. These are detail shots of the undersides, showing better the drive and steering mechanism. The truck is so long, you can't really get a good view of the underside in just one picture. A detail shot of the opening cabinet. I wonder what, if anything, I should put in there. The rear bumper, with license plate from set #8682 Nitro Intimidator, mudflaps made out of track links, and the taillights, which actually work. Although, the license plate is not correct, as the real truck is from Canada. That's all for now, I hope you guys like it. P.S. I actually had this written out earlier, but I accidentally turned off my computer, and lost it. Oops.
  24. Oh man how I wish I had some of these Technic parts in those weird colors. I hope that wit with the reinstatement of Bionicle, we see more parts from Technic in weird colors.
  25. I like the blue, and the third party tires, although I dare say that the standard balloon tires would look even better, as in more true to the actual Tatra wheel designs.
