I love the modularity between bus station and train station! Do you have a bus station 'docking point' build somewhere in your city that has a similar connection point to the train base?
-
I love all of them, especially the Mustang! However, the 458 screams more Corvette to me on the front than anything else (possibly because of the color scheme- I've been Pavlov's dogged by Speed Champions!). I think shortening it a bit and increasing the curves over the wheels might help it to look more life-like. For what it's worth, that car seems to be near-impossible to convert to a toy scale- I have a Hotwheels of it and it seems too tall!

This is a great first MOC @swisstony! Funnily enough, my first big Bricklinked MOC is also gonna be a police station, so I feel you deeply on the various struggles with the transition from digital design to real life. I cursed my past self a few times while building, and a snafu with want lists is what's currently preventing me from posting. So I'll live vicariously through you! The internal detail is fantastic, kudos to your better half on fitting all that in on a 32x32 building! The outside isn't too shabby either, I really like your use of sand blue. And you've also captured what I think are the most important aspects of the modular series- façade detail, color blocking, and a liberal use of light grey! However, I do have a suggestion for your next MOC- try to focus on line and how the overall outward appearance of your MOC comes across. Currently (and I do not mean this to be disparaging- it's still something I struggle with), your MOC is very split between the floors. Outside of their shared coloring, each floor seems to have its own details and partitioning. If you look at the Fire Brigade, you'll notice that the windows on the second floor line up with the ones on the first, and the central section with the garage 'continues' up through the second floor. In your MOC, for example, this could be implemented with the main entrance's 'block' continuing up the front of the building. You can also see this somewhat in SteBrick's MOC, in that the top 2 floors are separated into 3 sections, which continue the lines of the bottom floor and act as color compliments to them. But outside of that, you have a lot of talent and a great team, and I look forward to more MOCs from you guys!

MOD: Park Street Townhouse 31065 as a modular row of houses
Dakar A replied to finnbricker's topic in LEGO Town
Very nicely done! However, I'd recommend adding some visual flair on the outsides of the bay windows- as it stands, they are very plain and mess with the aesthetic of the whole building (that's my main complaint with the set as well). Something like a column of headlight bricks with 1x1 plates facing outwards would probably be more than enough to make it interesting! EDIT: Or you could add a rain gutter like the Pet Shop modular, or a colored stripe like the Grand Emporium and other modulars!- 15 replies

I love it! I made similar changes to my green grocer, down to having the bedroom on the top floor, along with a bathroom! Where you put your bed I put a reading nook with bookshelves on either side though!

I absolutely adore your park! The sections, the colors, and the various foliage make it feel real and alive. When I build a park for my city I'm gonna use yours for inspiration!

You should take time to design your own modulars! They can be housing (or whatever you want), and if you take a critical eye to them you can see what makes a build feel like a modular vs. not. It will also give you a greater appreciation for the modulars you already have in terms of how they are designed. Plus it'll keep consistency with the other modulars you already have, unlike, say, the creator buildings.

Dang, I love how bat**** crazy this is in terms of a modification or extension of a modular building. I think it's pretty safe to say that all of the extensions I've seen before have played it safe, so I love how unique this one is. It definitely creates a different space from the original Emporium, and from an Emporium extension.

I adore it. It isn't exactly what I was imagining, but that is in no way bad. The buildings are great, but I also love the square aspect. And I think this is the perfect answer to both camps of modular fans- for the ones who want detailed interiors, the entire set is detail, and for those who want impressive façades it stacks up against the older modulars in height. Insta-buy for me!

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Dakar A replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Welcome to Eurobricks, LightningInc! I'm not sure if the building will necessarily be a big governmental building, since we already have the Town Hall, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it draw cues from buildings like those, since they usually open onto a square or plaza. Personally, I hope/think it'll look somewhat similar to Hemming Plaza in downtown Jacksonville, Florida: Perhaps the free Creator fountain earlier this year was made to be a companion to this, much like the flower cart was to the detective's office? In which case we might not be getting a fountain (though I think it's almost necessary). -

Yeah, most likely the Pet Shop unless they decide to throw us another loop and retire the Palace Cinema first. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Dakar A replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I mean $300 is big, but we shouldn't set our expectations so high that we're inevitably disappointed. A 'standard' modular is around 2200 pieces, and the Sandcrawler is likely the same price as the square, and it has 3296 pieces. There's an argument to be made that Star Wars and Creator have much different price per piece ratios, but at the same time this isn't going to be 10,000 pieces for $300. Also, the byline seems to suggest it will be a single building. If that's the case, I could see a double wide modular with a square in front of it for $300, but not a square surrounded by restaurants. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Dakar A replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I mean obviously 'Assembly' is a fun little name because it's Lego, but if it has double meanings I'd be honestly surprised to see another building with a purpose so similar to the town hall. The immediate thing that came to my mind was a little public square with a fountain much like the one in the 2008 Town Plan set. But a $300 price tag would mean much more than just that; perhaps there is a 32x64 building with a public square in front of it? It would mesh well with the rest of the modulars. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Dakar A replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Considering the potential size and name, I might expect this to be a large building on a 48x48 baseplate. Either that, or some sort of public square with modular buildings surrounding it. -
This is really solid for a first attempt at a modular MOC ( you should have seen mine! ). One suggestion I have is obfuscating the 'ski' somehow. I understand the struggle in not having enough dark grey tiles, but in the other two examples of writing on the sidewalk of a modular, they are covered up by cafe seating. As it stands, the text takes away from the building by ruining the immersion. Personally, I'd recommend turning the tiling into a sign and possibly doing some sort of simple pattern on the sidewalk instead.

Snaillad, you must be the master of art deco styled city MOCs by now. And honestly, if/when I ever get around to making one of my own, I am going to peruse your Flickr first. These are great, and I dig the unique choice of business in the women's clothing shop.

Is that supposed to be the Creator Family House on the shelf across from the Avengers tower? I don't know why, but I feel like it would look even better with the 1x1 white plate replaced with a 1x1 trans clear plate. But otherwise, I love it! It would totally fit in perfectly next to the Parisian Restaurant- it has that french feel, you know? Another weird nitpick is that there's no bed in the top floor aparment. Maybe the couch folds out? Regardless, those are the minorest of minor sins, and the main line of modulars are far from free of them. So kudos Adeel; this is a MOC you should be proud of!

This is fantastic! It's a totally original twist on the modular theme, and would fit great in with the official sets! Plus, who doesn't love a great botanical garden? Also, I think the word you were looking for might have been 'box office'. At least, that's what we call them in the good ol US of A.

It's actually interesting the history of that area- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Over-the-Rhine. It's really pretty architecturally right now, but that's mostly a product of gentrification. So it has a bit of a tainted backstory, which I think is really interesting. Thank you so much!

Thanks! I was trying to emulate the typical weatherproof, yet classy patio furniture you see in home and garden catalogs. I think it came out well in that regard.
