  5. I don't see the irony. One very specific non-Lego part type is mandantory. Letting people use other non-Lego parts would not only be a slippery slope, but a rift.
  6. The good thing in MOCing and not collecting and having digital designer tools and internets is that this thing is not such a problem for me. I cannot afford to keep everything build (too much money and more importantly too much space) anyway, nothing is kept built for more than a few months and only a few parts crack like that which can be exchanged continuously without spending significant money (plus part with cracks are still usable in not demanding situations). My usual dilemma with part usage: always disassemble everything if they are not used, or keep stuff assembled? Being assembled or repeated assembling/disassembling hurts the parts more? I usually choose the former but maybe I should rewise that strategy. By the way if you are a collector and afraid that your models will fell apart after ages (and don't intend to take them apart) then simply glue the problematic parts to the axles. This won't affect playability and displayability.

  8. My entry for the [TC6] Technic SBrick Contest: Custom Hot Rod Wrecker The pictures show how the model would look with an SBrick istalled. Remote controlled features: -drive (2 × PF L) -steering (PF servo) -2-speed gearbox (PF M) -auto crane with winch (PF M) Other features: -live axle push-rod suspension -working steering wheel -working gear stick -opening doors -working V8 fake engine -custom stickers (stickers are covering only one piece each) Details The suspension: The front and rear axles are live axles with four-four trailing arms and Watt's linkage which prevents sideways motion with a much more vertical motion in contrast with the Panhard rod. Watt's linkage is quite popular in hot and rat rods' suspensions. The axles have push rod suspension instead of being directly connected to the shock absorbers, and this ensures that the load on the shock absorbers are longitudinal. This results is a very responsive suspension with low friction. Actually this is the best suspension I ever built on my own. The front push rods are attached to the lower trailing arms, just like in many hod and rad rods. Steering: In the steering system (Pitman arm + drag-link) everything is doubled to minimize backlash. There is quite amount of backlash, and surprisingly enough, the most backlash is not caused by the linkage but the gearbox (only a gear reduction and a doubled bevel gear pair). Despite the backlash, the car drives okay but doesn't like bumps.   11. Sorry if this is covered in the description or the discussion, but I need this info for a design decision and I'm running out of time so I don't want to stuck on this. So, Can the SBrick handle stalling motors somehow with the controlling application? Something like "stop motor if a given power consumption/exposure time peak occurs"? I want to control a gearbox and due to space limitations I want to avoid clutch gears and servo motors, but also avoid the motor stalling thing.
  12. My experience is that you can use music, you only have to accept that you use 3rd party content, and you are good to go. You can an iTunes icon and maybe some banners on you video. Except for Germany... Videos won't be displayed (not only muted!) there if the track is from a Mayor Label. Maybe not an assured method, but check if a music is available on the German Youtube (there are methods on the net for viewing videos as if you were in any given country). If it is then you are good.

  14. Yes, with instructions I see no real challenge either. As soon as a challenge occurs, it is actually an annoyance for me. For example pneumatic tubing, or anything that requires a non clumsy hand, or a state in the build when I have to hold the thing in my hands because it's not held togerther yet (arrgggh those not-yet-braced gearboxes).
  15. Excuse me if it was already covered, but can one post pictures in the entry topic of the model as if it had SBrick instead of IR receivers? Obviously this applies to contestants without SBrick. I, for one, could not place the receivers nicely but the SBrick could be inserted pretty much anywhere inside the model (this is one of the advantages of the SBrick over the IR). For this reason I would like to take the pictures without the ugly IR receivers.

  18. Thank you for that info! A was always avoiding the solution Madoca posted, but in my current builds, I use some clutch gears and maybe I can get rid of the hacks that are there to brace the gear. I still wonder how that behaves under stress, I wouldn't rely on everything being perfectly aligned and stiff all the time.

  21. Hi all! This is a functional folding bike with front and rear suspension. It's a replica of an existing model called "Birdy" from the German company Riese & Müller. Link for the real bike The Lego model features -full suspension -chain drive with tensioner -kickstand -height adjustable seat -carrier that also folds along with the bike -realistic folding and unfolding. The folding is modelled as precisely as I could do with Lego pieces.   22. The whole wheel is supported by two half-stud axle connections? That's not going to hold. I wouldn't rely on such a poor connection even in much smaller models. By the way I gave up on a Tumbler project because of the front suspension. Believe me, even if you fix the thing I mentioned, two bent liftarms even with vertical reinforcement (which ads to the thickness and height of the suspension arm, thus gets ugly very fast) is going to twist like crazy.
