[TC6] Hot Rod Wrecker [WIP]

I'm in that minority too. The more time I spend here the more I feel that this is indeed a small minority. I love the front by the way, in my opinions, this is your best-proportioned model, Paul.

[TC6] Secret Project
Lipko replied to Omikron's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Another good example. But you don't have to worry, my comments won't influence anything. Let's finish this debate here, and post some more pictures so that the debate is not the last thing people will see in this topic. And I repeat myself: this is an awesome MOC by itself. -

Yes, this MOC fits the rules perfectly, I just think that the concept/idea itself is not the best fit for this particular contest. And for a winner MOC, in my opinion, the concept/idea has to be good too, not just the evaluation, looks etc. Without the context of this particular contest, this model is awesome. I just don't think the winning of this model would be fair against entries that much better match the spirit of this contest. -

Awesome model by the way, but in the context of this contest that's all about remote controlling, a model that's either stationary or can be hold in your hand (thus there's no point in remote controlling it) just doens't deserve to win in my opinion. Sorry to say that. -

I see no country restrictions on your video. BTW to check video restriction, you can do the following: Copy this link to the URL bar: gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/videos/XXXXXXXXXXX?v=2&prettyprint=true Replace the red X part with the video's 11 character code (it's the end of the whole video link) www.youtube.com/watch?v=niMpC8dnjQI So you'll have this: gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/videos/niMpC8dnjQI?v=2&prettyprint=true Press enter, then an XML file will be downloaded. You can open it with Firefox for example, and look for something like this: <media:restriction type="country" relationship="deny">DE</media:restriction> If you don't find this line, then there's no country restriction on your video. If it's restricted in more countries, all those countries' codes will be listed there separated by spaces. I use this method for choosing music that's not restricted. I don't know if it's a 100% certain method, maybe video's uploaded long ago can get through this restriction thing. -
Technic General Discussion
Lipko replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Just try to go to a nearby copy service, most of them can print on whatever sticker you want (and they have paper too). What tips do you want to hear? Making stickers from zero involves many different activities/problems. For making my stickers I used Photoshop, but I guess GIMP (which is free) is just as efficient for this simple task. I looked for some inspiration using google image search, then I tried different fonts for 3 hours, then I used this tableto find out the proper colors, I calculated the height of the stickers in pixels so that they don't cover more parts. I had many versions of the patters on the print so that I could try more variants. Then I went to a nearby copy shop, printed the stickers, found out that the colors were totally off but whatever. I was lucky because the background color was white, so that couldn't be that off. I could have printed on transparent instead... Next time. The total work of designing/implementing/printing was about 5 hours. -

No need for roof, there are holes on the bottom so the rain can flow out -
I saw the model on Brickshelf, it's awesome, but I think you should have waited until Crowkillers himself makes a topic about it.

Sorry if it was covered already, but are more than 5 images allowed in the discussion topic?

Filming and photography was done. I will make some more detail photos, edit the video and everything will be ready by the deadline. Entry topic hopefully today evening. -
Yup. I built a dummy SBrick to demostrate how the model would look with a real Sbrick and made the video using 2 recievers and some ugly cabling.

Hmmm... there will be some competition with "Lipko's 24 hour towing service" (with stickers ) -

[TC6] ][WIP] Radical RXC V8
Lipko replied to Epic Technic's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I don't think that theoretical speed means too much. Once I made a remote controlled chassis with a 2-speed gearbox. 1:1 vs 1:3 ratio in the gearbox. Yet, I couldn't notice too much speed difference between the two speeds... Project dropped. -

Jerky movement is a negative effect and it's noticeable in Lego. Especially when angles are big (say, 20 degrees). One example is steering, but maybe in case of driving too. It's just my experience and I may remember wrong, but the jerkiness is similar to a stressed knob-wheel - knob-wheel drive. I even noticed the jerkiness in my current MOC where I only drive a V8 fake engine with the double cardan shaft. -

Do you read the posts? If you install the cardans the other way then you not only have an oscillating middle shaft, but an oscillating like crazy end shaft (you basically want to double the oscillation?). Stating that you are an engineer won't make you right. I'm an engineer too, so what? I tried to make an explanation, we linked the wikipedia page, all the installations you can find are the same as the Mercedes'. If you look again closely, Post #457 shows exactly the same setup. EDIT: for some whatever reason, the picture I posted is broken. So again: Image source: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f12/drive-shaft-geometry-593045/ -

Those U-joints are aligned correctly. Imagine what would happen if you cut the middle axle, rotate the rear half of middle axle with the U-joint with 180 degrees (so that the U-joints are oriented in the same way) and start turning the input and output axles (which are side-by-side now) in the same direction. The two half middle axles would oscillate with the same phase so they could be connected. If the U-joints were aligned in the opposite way, with this line of thought you can see that the phases of the oscillations would be off with 90 degrees, so the half-axles could not be connected. I hope that's clear, an animation would be cool here... Anyhoo, from the Wikipedia article: You must be remembering that the U-joints must be 90 degrees out of phase, but that means they are simmetrically oriented in relation to the middle axle. EDIT: I'm too reliant on spell check, which is not installed on my work computer. Added a better picture (using google image search for "double cardan shaft") -
Buying individual parts was a kind of milestone for me, and I only started it after maybe 2 years of building. Another barrier can be online paying. I only do it recently since I have secure cable net (I only had radio crap before that). Plus he is already late with it, the shipment will probably not make it in time. He would have to rebuild the body AND make photos AND make a video with editing. If I were the original poster, I would simplify the body and only make the main body lines from beams. Let the chassis shine through.

I envy the crap out of you guys with the "flashbulb" moments and "everything falls into place" moments. I only have "at last something that's okay for now and I will come back later to make it elegant at least a bit" moments (and the elegant rebuilding never happens) and "everything fell into place!....Wait, the key feature/looks is now totally fcked, I have to give up a feature again or should give up this whole Lego hobby crap once and for all" moments. Okay, I also have "this is totally killer god looking awesomeness" and "I'm the coolest person on the planet" moments sometimes
