  1. This discussion has come up in some other threads and I find the subject very interesting. What criteria do you have when restoring sets? When I buy old used sets (mainly from the mid 80s to mid 90s) I always try to buy sets that are described to be in good or excellent condition but sometimes for various reasons I buy sets that have missing pieces or have damaged pieces. For example if I buy a Futuron set from the 80s I try to keep the pieces as original as possible when replacing damaged or yellowed pieces. In most cases I have period correct replacements that I can use but sometimes I have to use a newer version of the same piece but I try to avoid that as much as possible. I never mix gray and bluish gray. I accept very little yellowing and scratches. Only if the yellowing is very minor I keep those pieces and I also replace pieces with visible scratches. I never throw away any pieces because of yellowing or scratches even if they are very yellowed or have major scratches or tooth marks, those pieces I use in non visible places in MOCs or inside mountains/hills when building landscapes. When I build MOCs or idea book builds for old themes I don't care if the pieces are new or old, I only try to stick to period correct pieces for official sets. When it comes to stickers (I hate stickers) I use original stickers if they are available and in good condition but that is seldom the case so most of the time I use replica stickers that look the same as the originals. I always want original instructions for my sets. What are your standards when restoring sets?
  2. While I voted for my very favorites (Black Falcons, Lion Knights/Crusaders, Black Knights, Dragon Knights/Masters and Royal Knights), I still like many of the other subthemes very much such as Forestmen, Wolfpack and Dark Forest. In a way I like Fright Knights because some of the sets are great but others are not so great in my opinion. Classic Castle is also cool. I think Knight's Kingdom 1 and 2 are the worst Castle subthemes ever. After those we started getting nice Castle subthemes again and of the newer stuff Kingdoms is what I like the most. The Horse Knights/Snake Knights also look promising.
  3. I supported this beautiful robot as soon as I saw it on Bricklink!
  4. My favorites are the Black Falcons, Lion Knights/Crusaders, Black Knights, Dragon Knights/Masters and the Royal Knights.
  5. Of course a dragon is fantasy. I wasn't clear enough, sorry. I prefer sets with minor fantasy elements such as one or two dragon, ghost or wizard. I only mentioned dragons because I like them and in sets with dragons often the dragon is the only fantasy element.
  6. For me it's not something I can relate to. I have always liked castles, knights and dragons but elves and goblins feels very foreign and too unrealistic for me. I like having some fantasy elements in sets like a single ghost or dragon but not whole subthemes based on fantasy creatures.
  7. If both subthemes are well made play themes I see no problem with that since most kids like Lego between ages 4-12 and can experience several subthemes during their childhood. When I was 11-12 years old and on 6th grade almost everyone was still into Lego but then most of my classmates stopped liking Lego over the summer. Maybe because we had to go to junior high and there the mentality was very different, only I and a couple of friends continued to be interested in Lego. Even if some kids stops liking Lego earlier they still have a solid six year period when they can experience different subthemes.
  8. While I personally have little interest in non human factions I see why people like them. I think that the best solution would bee to alternate between more traditional Castle factions and fantasy factions. Maybe a couple of years with factions like Kingdoms had and then switch to fantasy era like factions for a couple of years. That would also keep everything fresh.
  9. What Space Police contest? How could I have missed that or was it before I joined?
  10. I agree. Too much is too much. Ghost, skeleton, wizard/witch and dragon are fine but orcs, dwarfs ands trolls as factions is too much for me.
  11. Very beautiful and balanced build!
  12. Thanks for the kind words!
  13. At first I only looked at the pictures and thought that this would be a perfect GWP and then I read the text that it was for the GWP contest. I like this build very much and hope that you win!
  14. The chainmail torso used by the Black Knights and Royal Knights is one of my favorites and does look good when used by several minifigs in the same build/display.
  15. The paper method is actually working. I remove the loose arm and put a very small piece of tissue paper between the arm and the hole and then click them together. The small piece of paper will provide enough friction for the arm to work normally. The same method works also fine for heads and legs.
  16. they don't even look like building block construction toys (except the green one).
  17. I feel the same about the Creator 3-in-1 sets. They have that special something that most Castle, Space, Pirates etc. sets used to have. I really liked the Cyber Drone (except the color of the windshield) and I also hope we get more and larger Space inspired Creator 3-in-1 sets.
  18. The subway train looks great. I think I'll buy several and add magnets to them.
  19. I have tried to go to Lugnet and update my set database but I can't reach Lugnet at all. I only get this message "This site can't be reached". I know that Lugnet is mostly dead but their database of older sets is very valuable and I still log in from time to time. I have tried different browsers with the same result and my internet is working fine. I even tried going there using my phone but with the same result. Is this the end of Lugnet? Update: Now it suddenly started to work again. I also managed to log in. I remember back in the day when Lugnet was huge. So many memories.
  20. This is a Legoland quality level display! Amazing details and ideas. I love how it looks when it's dark with the lights on.
  21. Thanks for reminding me! I have now ordered the torsos and some other pieces so I can make Futuron style astronauts in those colors. I'll post some pictures when I get them.
  22. I thought that the last post was from March this year when I replied. But on the other hand one year isn't that old after all.
