LEGO Sci-Fi Ongoing - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
SpacePolice89 replied to Lyichir's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
I believe that turning Lego Space into a lore heavy theme would not be a good idea. Elaborate backstories and too many minifigures with official names is off-putting for me. I see official lore as something that is restricting imagination and creativity. When I was a kid it was so fun to make up stories when playing with Lego and other toys. Basic stuff like the name of a planet or a general description of a subtheme is fine like that they are police, spies or scientists but anything more than that is too much. The licensed themes destroyed the in house themes slowly, it was "death by a thousand cuts". Only Star Wars had a more immediate effect on Space because of the legal stuff. -
LEGO Sci-Fi Ongoing - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
SpacePolice89 replied to Lyichir's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
I remember reading a long time a ago that Lego had to stop working on in house Space themes after Star Wars was released in 1999. Insectoids was supposed to get more sets and a successor subtheme was already in the design phase but had to be abandoned after Star Wars was released. -
Nice build! This should be a real set.

[MOC] HMS Indefatigable 1794, fith-rate frigate
SpacePolice89 replied to lsherlockl's topic in Pirate MOCs
I really like your HMS Indefatigable MOC. I'm also a big fan of the Hornblower TV miniseries and think that you have chosen a very suitable minifig head for Captain Sir Edward Pellew. -
LEGO to Begin Videogame Development Within Company
SpacePolice89 replied to Brick900's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Too early to tell if the future in house developed video games will be good or not but they should be very careful that the video game division won't become a bottomless pit that they throw endless amounts of money into. Back in the day Lego Media made some great games but was unfortunately shut down in 2004. I hope they make remastered versions of games like Lego Racers. -
Very nice alternate build! The space/underwater combination reminds me of Seatron.

Great looking ship! I like the balance between the colors and the overall proportions of the ship. Is it a seagull hanging on the wall in the galley?- 8 replies

Outpost Deployer Rover Blacktron 2 Version

The trans neon green canopies look fantastic! -
I appreciate that the 4+ sets have no stickers but otherwise I believe they are unnecessary. They should be merged with the Classic theme as subtheme focused on smaller builds including minifigs. Back in the day Basic had such sets like 1880. I have only bought one 4+ set and that is 70821 and I bought it for the spaceship which is actually very nice. As a young kid I started with normal sets when I was much younger that the recommended age because the simplified sets didn't have the same appeal to me.
-
Yes, I forgot to mention Divers and Paradisa which both are also great. But almost all mainstream Town branded sets released during those years were so simplified that I stopped buying them. I couldn't understand why they did it and I remember being shocked over the sudden change from awesome sets like 6335 Indy Transport released in 1996 (which is one of my favorite sets) to very simplified sets that I didn't like such as 6486 Fire Engine. The problem was that they replaced normal Town sets with Town Jr and therefore discontinued detailed sets and lost customers which in turn contributed to their financial problems in the late 90s.
-
If Town is included the worst period was 1997 to 2000 with the junio rized sets (although the Res-Q, Extreme Team and Arctic subthemes were not junior ized and were very nice). All mainstream Town sets were strongly junior ized during those years. Otherwise it is the current period (2020-onwards) that is the worst with strange colors and cartoonish sets.

I think that 60449 Off Road Police Car Chase symbolizes everything what's wrong with City today. The police vehicle looks like a spaceship and everything is too cartoonish.

Thanks! I wanted to display some of my favorite sets in a special way and at the same time keep dust away. I got inspired after seeing the Eldorado Fortress displayed at Lego House.
-
I have used it in smaller sections for my displays. I also really like it. I bought mine from a French Ebay store. I'll use more of it when I add new displays.
-
This is very beautiful! I like how your builds are very detailed yet keeping that true Lego look. I use the same background poster as you have behind the ships for my Pirates display.

MOC - Blacktron Assault Falcon with fold-out wings
SpacePolice89 replied to oki_ebi's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
The request comes from my M-Tron spaceport. They feel unsafe at the moment. Offensive capabilities and prison capacity will of course also be increased. Time to restore law and order in the galaxy! -

MOC - Blacktron Assault Falcon with fold-out wings
SpacePolice89 replied to oki_ebi's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
It is so nice to see all your fantastic Blacktron spaceships! Again I like the parts that you've used, a perfect mix of old and new pieces. With so many new Blacktron ships I have to upgrade the defenses of my Space Police base! -
Why did they bring back the blue Octan torso several times?
SpacePolice89 replied to SpacePolice89's topic in LEGO Town
Thanks for the information. I haven't played Lego Island since the late 90s. A friend of mine had it. This got me inspired to buy the game and play it again. -
Why did they bring back the blue Octan torso several times?
SpacePolice89 replied to SpacePolice89's topic in LEGO Town
The playable character "Gas Station Manager" from Lego City Undercover It is also one of my favorite Octan torsos but my very favorite is the white one with an Octan logo and text. It is indeed strange that blue Octan torso didn't appear in Lego Island. -
Why did they bring back and update the blue Octan torso several times with very minor details such as the "OIL" text in different styles but not the red and white equivalents? Don't get me wrong, I like the blue Octan torso very much and it appears in one of my favorite Town sets (6335 Indy Transport) but why only the blue one and not the others? Bricklink has seven different versions of it (some with promotional backprint). There is even a playable character in Lego City Undercover with this torso than I use when I play that game. According to Bricklink the torso has appeared between 1994 and 2016. https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=973pb4275c01&idColor=7#T=C&C=7 https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=973pb4274c01#T=C&C=7

This style is my favorite when it comes to Space sets/MOCs. Amazing build!
