I'm sure it isn't limited to the mixels. I have tons of bricks and cheese slopes cracking before I even touch them. I think it is just the thin connection spot. Maybe contact LEGO? They never send me free parts, but every one else seems to get them.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I think people keep forgetting that 'everything is awesome.' Basically put some bricks in a box and stamp creator expert and include it with the modular, I will buy it. That's basically why I bought winter market last year. By far not my favorite but I bought it to go with the others. In doing so I can appreciate it for what it is. I'm sure the next modular will go with the rest and be something the same, yet different. I'll still buy it, eventually. -
The scuba batman was awesome. I loved the double sided head. One side can work well for customs or even space related figures. So the new space head could work really well too!

I've never seen or heard of one of these before. But it looks neat. I like the color scheme.

The set looks okay. I agree in probably best to wait to see it in person before passing judgment. Some sets do take you by surprise. It is odd that Qui-Gon and Obi don't have 'new' bubbles either. I'd take those two and the Naboo guard for sure, but I don't want the set in the least. I'm sure the figures will be expensive in the after market, just like every other minifigure.

The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
^You are quite talented at looking up unique parts. But I guess you went to the inventory on Brickset and saw which pieces were in the fewest sets? Still, it takes a lot of time and effort there. I've seen the Sea Cow built in person, it is interesting to say the least. The size is impressive, but it doesn't go with anything else I'd own. As far as useful pieces, there seem to be many in rarer colors, but to get enough of them to do anything with is questionable.- 2,626 replies

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12 Rumours and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
As it stands, the 1x1 plate addition seems to be the most likely solution. I'd prefer more printed tall legs or long arms, but that doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon. The main problem with the 1x1 is how big the feet look. They don't always come off when you lift someone up, but they make the feet look bulky in a straight shot. But it could work for glass slippers, although I don't think it would give the right look. The height difference wouldn't matter so much since most dress adorned females are taller, but the feet would be regular color and then a random 1x1 underneath that would look odd. I'd like to see more additions like the GOTG and Simpsons tail piece, only no tail. It'd fit right inbetween the legs and the torso and add extra height without it making the feet look weird. Or of course, more tall legs options.- 1,109 replies

That picture is amazing. TLG sure knows how to get people to continue to buy their product. That is, if the figures look anything like these. How many Batman sets do we need? Obviously a lot more! Especially considering a lot of the DC movie tie-ins will be coming up over the next few years. Yes, Marvel has had a lot recently and will continue to do so, but maybe it is DC's time to shine? (To a much different extent). It doesn't matter to me who wins the box office records or anything. I just want lots of cool minifigures and sets!

I agree about the notion that when you want to build certain builds you will need a lot of one color; however, I've noticed sometimes it is easier (for me at least) to have all of my SNOT bricks and all of my headlight bricks separated from each other, but all of the colors mixed. As opposed to a separate container just for light bley headlight and another for dark bley headlight, etc. I can still find the pieces I need by having them separated that way. Now everyone will differ. I am currently just using cardboard boxes to sort by color. Then I have some clear plastic drawers that separate out a lot of the smaller pieces I may use a lot while building. So far it has worked for me and doesn't take up a ton of space since I keep them on shelves underneath our bookshelf in the LEGO room. But it doesn't add a lot of flexibility for building since I have to sift through or sometimes dump out a box just to find some other pieces I may need. I've recently also started sorting out all of my plates to find them quicker instead of sifting through the giant box of that color. It really is a never-ending process AND space/time consuming depending on your collection.

Thanks for the review. I really like who this turned out. I don't have any previous versions, so this would be a welcomed buy. With all of these other great sets this year, it may be a tough purchase. So I will definitely wait for a sale. But I do want to add this to my collection. The figures look pretty solid. I only have 1 or 2 of the old snowtroopers, so it won't be cluttering up my collection.

^Thanks for sharing that! That looks really interesting. You did an amazing job capturing that in LEGO form. I almost want to go watch that movie again...almost.

Review: 60036 Arctic Base Camp (A review in 5 parts)
TheLegoDr replied to woofmcmoose's topic in LEGO Town
Thanks for the review. Very informative. I have no interest in these sets as a whole, but I'd love some huskies and that polar bear! I don't have a forest police bear yet either, but I can't justify that price in the aftermarket. I'm sure this will suffer the same fate. But the end result does look like a fun playable set with a lot of neat features. I can understand why other people may be interested in these sets. If I wasn't into a lot of other themes, I'd probably add this to my list. I liked this sort of things as a kid. -
Very well done. I guess I have never seen one before, so I would be completely unaware of it's width. I think it looks great.

Very well done. My daughter would love this. Are they open back? My daughter loves the Modulars, so I let her play with them, but it'd probably be better if she had her own version of the modulars to go with her Friends figures. The color scheme works well here. I had considered building a modular Ice Cream Parlor also after seeing that ice cream truck. I still haven't made that purchase yet though.

I haven't had any missing parts with the CMF, but I have had broken pieces in the bag. It is true they will NOT send any replacement parts to you. I emailed with someone a few times, and they basically just told me they are sorry and tough luck. They didn't offer to send me anything to replace them, like others have said. So your mileage may vary. But as "great" as their customer service is, they've told me tough luck quite a bit from what I can remember.

I don't see any bluecoats?? Maybe I am missing something.
-
^If by variation you mean all wearing the same pants then yes... I didn't know it was a prison uniform, but that is an interesting idea. I guess it makes sense why the pants would all be the same then.

Let's share our funny interesting photos!
TheLegoDr replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Those light/dark comparisons do show how different LEGO prints things. I'm surprised on that Spaceman version how different the torso printing is. I still desparately want that Blacktron space villain. I can't find any for a reasonable price anywhere. -
75 degree slope bricks, format 2x2x3
TheLegoDr replied to legotrainfan's topic in General LEGO Discussion
That's mathematical! See, school can be used for things in the real world. You should tell the masses! I've never bothered to measure the actual slope on anything. I guess I never cared. I just knew there were slopes of varying degrees and use whatever I needed. -
Thanks for the review. It looked pretty similar to the movie, but I haven't compared them side by side. More articulation would be better. I only want angry kitty from this though. I can imagine she will go for a pretty penny in the aftermarket.
-
That custom Groot looks really good! That is what I was expecting more than this monstrosity, but as stated, I'm sure the what we have will be very similar to the movie version.

Thanks for the review. I was about to say the hair color looked new, which is always welcome. The ship looks pretty solid. I know very little about these a-holes, outside of the trailers, so the movie will be one big surprise for me. These sets look entertaining and fun without knowing the source material. That's better than some of the Avengers sets, although two of these GOTG sets are flying ships, so that helps the sale. The figures look great, although I think I like the Marvel game's versions better, but these seem pretty true to the movie, which the game's versions did not. I rather like that Sakaaran. He looks rather disturbing and terrifying. I wouldn't mind building an army of him. Way better than the Chitauri. The comparison is neat. I hadn't thought to compare the two, but it makes sense. The price is about average, but I think I will still wait until I can find a sale. I never want to pay more when I can pay less.

Very cool! I like how it is modular, and that makes a lot of sense actually about being able to store it and move it. I may have to rethink some of my larger MOCs and make them modular as well. The flora looks great, as does the rockwork. I hadn't seen these mountains before. Is this Avatar the animated show or the one with those blue creatures? I will admit I haven't seen the animated show and I saw the live action show once whenever it came out, so I'm not really familiar with either. Either way, the source material is unneeded when you create something beautiful like this.

Serious question about Lego flowers
TheLegoDr replied to BirdOPrey5's topic in General LEGO Discussion
^You have to also keep in mind, how many female AFOLs are out there? Let alone, how many are on this forum commenting? I don't see too many unfortunately. I think LEGO has been geared towards males, even though either gender can use it creatively. Not to start a new discussion, just my own observation about your observation -
Do Minifigs count towards Piece Count?
TheLegoDr replied to smoothbit's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I would assume whatever is sent out from the factory is how they count it. As in, full assemblies count as one, if that is how the factory produced it. LEGO can certainly be separated, so that's a nice feature, but I think how they produce them in the factory is how they are "intended" to be used. Therefore could be more at risk for breakages by separating.
