The LEGO Batman Movie Set/CMF Rumors & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Sir Gareth's topic in LEGO Licensed
I don't live near a LEGO store, so I can't say about if the exclusives are in store also, but it seems odd that they wouldn't be. Granted, anytime there is an exclusive to a store, I just order from shop at home, so I still get the exclusive without having to go to TRU or wherever. So it is easy to assume the store would have it also, but it sounds like that isn't the case. Odd. As for searching for minifigures early...well, you kind of have to. Once they get picked through it is hard to find what you want. And I only search early when someone else has posted they found something early. Otherwise I don't bother. As for the new polybags...I'm torn. I originally wanted to get all of the suits, but it seems pointless now. And outside of the batman 2x2 round tile in the bat signal, I can pass on that. I actually don't mind the one that came in the BvS set, so I don't NEED that necessarily. the keychain is interesting. I'd take the suit, but I don't like modifying pieces, so I'll likely skip it unless I came across it easily (which doesn't sound possible). -
I like your architecture drawing plans more than the official lego build. I usually do portraits when I draw, but I'd like to get more into architectural plans like how you did. That sounds like fun. It makes sense to expand the official set. I guess I haven't exactly seen a building like this in real life. It definitely looks interesting. I like the more spacious interior and the rooftop bar is an interesting idea. I should consider that for my own. Although I think I will disassemble the whole building and make something different out of it. But there are definitely things to take away from this. Keep up the good work.

Sets so nice you bought them twice (or more)
TheLegoDr replied to murphy_slaw's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Outside of CMFs, I have 3 of Uruk Hai Army for army building and general piece use. And then I did buy two of the 2010 Hogwarts castle, but only because I wanted to expand it and didn't know about bricklink yet. I found a good price on a second copy on ebay at the time, so went for it. Looking back, I probably would have tried using bricklink had I known about it, but this way I have 2 of all of the figures I guess. -
DC Super Heroes - 76052 Batmanâ„¢ Classic TV Series - Batcave
TheLegoDr replied to CopMike's topic in LEGO Licensed
But what is the main selling point for a '66 set...outside of the study, the batmobile, the copter, what else could they do? I hate the price on the set, but I did thankfully get it for 20% off on Black Friday. But still too expensive for what you get. But I'd love new sets, but I don't see it happening since they covered a lot already. -
I bow down to you! My wife wanted me to make these and I never made it a priority to figure out how I should do so. And you captured it perfectly. If I ever get around to it, I will look here for inspiration. Very clever ideas. The opening mechanisms is brilliant, but I don't think I would have been as clever and mine would just be stationary. Either way, kudos to you. I can't wait to see updates. And in the meantime I'll see if I get around to trying my own hand without copying yours.

The LEGO Batman Movie Set/CMF Rumors & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Sir Gareth's topic in LEGO Licensed
I'm just amazed at how expensive this wave will be, not including the summer wave. $800 for just this initial wave, not including polybags or the summer wave. With that said, I think I'll stick to only looking for deals. A local Target had the whole line already (outside of Arkham of course). But all full price, so I think I will wait. -
This seems like one of the most relevant threads to necromance. I was given some money/gift cards for Christmas and I am torn. Approximately 25$ at Barnes and Noble and 200$ at Amazon. I can always use a little cash to fill in the rest, but obviously would prefer to avoid as much as I can. The dilemma. How badly do I want some certain sets? I have looked at numerous pictures, reviews, videos. I'm torn. Main possibilities, Brick Bank (Yes, I have the full line so I will get it eventually). Ferrari F40 (I have all of the other advanced creator cars). Beatles submarine (I don't care about IDEAS or the Beatles, per se. But I do like having new prints and figures and it is cheaper). So question, do I pick up the Brick Bank and Submarine on Amazon and pay a little overage. Do I even bother with the Submarine since I am not a Beatles fan? Do I get it for cheaper at B&N since the gift card would cut it in half (almost)? Has anyone built any of these? Thoughts? Thanks!!!

I must have terrible luck. I haven't won the last three years. Congrats to all of the winners so far!

Your first set costing over $100
TheLegoDr replied to BubbaFit45531's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I received Black Seas Barracuda as a kid, which looking at Brickset the MSRP is over $100. So clearly a Christmas present when I was 6-ish. Motivation = want? haha As far as a set greater than $100 that I, myself, have purchased, was likely Helm's Deep. But it was on a sale at B&N, so I got it for barely $100, so that was nice. Since then, I have purchased way too many to count that were that high. Grr! LEGO has a lot of my money! -
Well done. It definitely has a NYC feeling to it. And I agree, the fire escape works better next to another building. I usually don't like tall buildings, but this looks great. Downside, is the modulars are now so short in comparison. I would like to have a taller city, but in terms of scale and other builders in our LUG, I doubt it would be too wise to have them too tall since they will stand out too much. Otherwise I like the dark red/red brown mixture on the front. Clever way of spelling MUSIC. I may have to borrow that sometime.

Looks great. Looks just like one of those little buildings (non-lego) that people put up. I like the way it is lit up inside. The brickwork looks well done. And the gold light on the side looks clever. Is that a legal technique? But does it fit with the rest of the winter village theme? Not at all considering it has a different baseplate, no snow, and I'm assuming a lot more pieces with all of those plates used. But I'm not the judge, so this will likely win. Keep up the good work!

Brickmaestro - I do agree. It seems some wonderful looking builds get chosen even though they don't fall within the rules. I guess it depends on how strict you want the moderator to be regarding entries. I haven't participated for a while because I felt like too many people were winning that weren't building in the style of the contest. Maybe I'll try my hand again. I highly doubt I would get any votes since I keep mine as close to official LEGO standards as I can and that doesn't seem to win. (Or maybe my builds just suck). Either way, it is welcome to have this yearly tradition back again and I can't wait to see what people bring to the table. Especially after all these years, it is interesting to see the new and different creations since so much has already been done.

Very interesting MOC indeed. I recall that set from my youth. Good thinking. I've also been tinkering with classic sets reimagined into something bigger/better. Although I was choosing a different classic pirates set, this is a good choice as well. I do believe bricklink calls the part "Bright Light Yellow", while LEGO themselves call it "Cool Yellow". It is an interesting color for sure. I have been trying to accumulate enough for a modular building I have in mind. I am surprised at how many people didn't realize this color existed, but I guess if you don't frequent too many Friends sets, then it might be easy to miss. (or if you are a nerd like me and frequent bricklink color charts) Keep up the good work.

Very clever elevator! Although personally I would have the gear at the back, but that's just me. I like the two buildings on a 32 plate. And there is nice contrast here with sand green and the oranges. I've been wanting to design a building with the medium nougat/dark orange look, but haven't yet. And my bike shop mod from the creator set never actually had a bike shop, so I should look into designing one of those also. Keep up the good work.

The LEGO Batman Movie Set/CMF Rumors & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Sir Gareth's topic in LEGO Licensed
What is different about Scarecrow compared to Fear the Harvest? Doesn't he still have the hat/hair combo in that set too? Either way, the figures look great and it will be a bleep to collect them all. Looks like I can buy nothing else next year since these sets are so expensive. Thanks for sharing. -
INFO: [USA] Amazon.com Golden Brick Sweepstakes

Thanks for the heads up! -
just watch they will reveal the contest tomorrow :P Looking good though. It fits right in with the theme. And who wouldn't want some hot cocoa in the cold of winter.

CLEVER! I had no idea this existed. I don't have the space, know-how, or time to try to create/copy this idea. But that looks great for a LEGO convention of some sort. I bet it would wow the audience. Very brilliant idea.

Well done. I hadn't seen the hotel lobby one yet. I was keeping up with all of the postings, but then it hit into the 200s, so I quit following it. There were a lot of subpar builds on there and a handful of exceptional ones. Granted, I'm not the judge so who knows what they will vote for. I noticed a lot didn't follow the rules. At least you mention the exact rules and guidelines. So kudos. With that said, very clever builds. I really like the back cabinet design in the hotel lobby. I was going to do a wall effect like that for my Wayne manor, so that is interesting to see how it looks in the actual brick. The luggage cart is clever too. As for the baby's room. Top notch. The rocking horse and the changing table are my favorites. Keep up the good work. I didn't enter because I never seemed to find the time, but I doubt I could have competed with these.

I actually picked this set up today because I found same at Wal-Mart here. Worth it at a discount, but not at msrp for me. Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for the review. It gives us a closer look. I saw these a few weeks ago at Walmart too. Probably about when you first posted this, but I decided to wait until Amazon has them on sale. I couldn't justify the prices for some of the sets. And since this has the same Batman, I don't need to worry about getting another of him at full price. And the generic cop is useful, but not needed. So Freeze being the main draw, I will wait for hopefully 20% off. But this whole set actually looks of decent quality, unlike most sets where the figures are the only draw. I could certainly see this MOC'd into something impressive, or at least the pieces used elsewhere impressive.

[MOC] 1955 Ford Thunderbird (First Generation)
TheLegoDr replied to darkhorse00's topic in LEGO Town
Brilliant. I do love it. I should try my hand at some vintage cars because I agree about the era the modulars are set in and they need something to go with them. P. S. a 1955 T-bird is one of my favorite cars. I never would have thought to try one out in LEGO format, let alone minifigure scale. Keep up the great work!- 21 replies

I remember going out with our church group and caroling as a child. It would usually be cold/snowy so I would only make it to a few houses (I was around 8 years old probably). These days it is warmer past Christmas, so not the same. But snow to me means caroling. Enjoy. I apologize for the picture quality. I only have access to an older kindle camera. http://[/url]KINDLE_CAMERA_1478260923000

I really love the roller coaster part. Going through the mountain, brilliant. I want to get the roller coaster set to build a bigger/better one also, but I can't bring myself to spend the money since I have so many other sets to buy...grr! I was planning on building a nice Friends amusement park/fair type of MOC BEFORE these sets came out. Now that the sets came out, I bet a lot of people will be doing this, and I don't like copying others, so I'll bow out. But yours is impressive in scale and detail. I think the main difference I would do in my own, would be more sidewalk/pavement and then add in extra flowers and whatnot. But this is looking good. Have fun with your showing.
