  1. OK, I now have seen a PR with my own eyes. the part count is a scam. It's a good modular, but sadly I have the impression the designers have started 'cutting corners' or 'trimming size' to reduce the modular. it looks like only 70% of a modular building. fantastic facade, great detail and quality, but im sad about a couple of issues, but the biggest for me is the the second floor is quite shallow, easily a third less floor space. the all round size of the modular is a smaller building, it seems that they wanted to make the smallest building possible that could sit next to other modulars. there is a difference in quantity... 2400+ part count, but i bet a substantial amount of these parts are no bigger than 1x3 plates... the PS for example is only around 2000 parts, but im sure most of those parts are larger bricks. the part count for PR is masked with lots of tiny pieces... if you had an unfurnished PR i'd bet it would struggle to hit 2000 parts
  2. ultimately: build more - start my town layout - buy only what i need based on the town layout, instead of sets - find the bargain of the year
  3. It's my harmless hobby.... I dont play with my Lego, i build with my lego (my wife says i play with it) i dont swoosh etc, i build and display. I was a massive Simcity fan for over 10yrs, and as far as i see it, i have moved into a new medium of creativity/architecture/planning/design i've noticed there are sub-groups of lego fans, and i am a brick/building/sets fan... i don't care a thing about minifigs, they solely are an item within a set. why be ashamed of your hobby? My wife is learning to accept that it's a harmless hobby... it's taken a while. I dont really care what my friends, co-workers, peers think, it's none of their concern IMO.
  4. it doesnt look too bad in sand blue... i'd perhaps make it in the opposite/mirror opposite and sit it next to a sand green GG
  5. Although i have not bought my PR as yet, I am already a bit concerned about the size of it. I have the expectations that modulars are large, grand buildings. I see hints that the modulars are slowly being shrunk down, and from the pics of the PR it looks like they are reducing the footprint of the building on the baseplate. in the balance between quantity and quality, i want a bit more quantity than what appears on offer... but i will see when i purchase mine in a few weeks.
  6. my BL'd GG cost me about the same price as a retail TH, GE, or PS.. (which is 300AUD in Oz). i had about 20% of the parts already in my inventory. above poster nailed it on sand green bricks.. i went with 1x4's without any construction problems. here's my story on the one i did a year ago: http://aussielegofans.forummotion.com/t987-moc-my-bricklinked-modular-green-grocer
  7. i'd buy that hands down
  8. thank you for sharing. i will be in touch
  9. i fell off my chair when i first saw this... this is art how many pieces? how long to make?
  10. Hi gang, You can delete this topic if necessary, but im wondering if we will ever run another Modular Madness competition? the last one was super fantastic, and im sure another would be very popular the last one ended around July 2012, so perhaps the next one could end July 2014. anyone considered making it an annual event? jig
  11. ive been trying to do something very similar on a smaller scale, but you Sir have nailed it. thank you for sharing that with us. mind blowing quality!
  12. in one word: FANTASTIC
  13. fantastic. i was working on something almost identical... great minds think alike!
  14. i raised the issue about height pages ago, and now i have noticed that others have joined me in this concern. The other kicker is the size of the floors or the depth of the building from the street, and how far in it is on the baseplate. i hope this is not a new direction to have thin shallow facade oriented modulars. it is virtually an entire floor missing (considering it is 2/3 the usual depth of the modulars. 2469 pieces.. a lot of these will be smaller than a 1x2 brick. i still love this building, but in many ways it is the most different modular we have seen, (size, shape, not multi-stackable by default) and i hope that im wrong in assuming that they are shrinking the modulars.
  15. it is a beautiful set, and i'd buy it today if it was for sale ... the colours the interiors and the detail is WOW! I love the quality of the set, but im a bit concerned about the quantity of it. It is clearly the smallest modular released to date, and it is a whole floor less than it should be, with little price change. the part count is high, but obviously the part count is not in bricks. the ground floor looks like a standard modular ground floor, the first floor is only half the depth of a normal modular and the second floor is the roof. there is a one and a half floors missing more or less. it appears they have bedazzled us with detail, and new printed stuff in one hand, and removed the size with the other
  16. it needs a Sir David Attenborough... looks fantastic
  17. not a big talker, daily reader.. the Town/Modular/City range of lego is huge, probably one of or the largest range in the legoverse.. yet it has to share with the friends range, a small, niche boutique theme. - SW and classic space do not share a sub forum - Trains (which would be used in and part of towns and use minifigs) have their own sub forum - other than the bricks it has no compatibilty with city/town sets im just raising a point that it's small enough to perhaps be relocated in the licensed forums topic, as this sub section is big and busy enough just to be town/city/focused...IMO Modular range is actually popular enough to almost have it's own sub-forum. does anyone agree/disagree at all? /rant
  18. everyone is jumping about on the pricing.. it's clear that lego prices have risen globally this year (or less parts for certain price points), and it looks like this time the USA didnt get protected from this either... well welcome to the rest of the world's issues! maybe it's supplies/oil price issues. i still think they do a great job, and the build qualities are fantastic.
  19. the price will plummet on BL for these, and we can all make BL'd Market street a hell of a lot easier
  20. that station is almost a look alike to the naboo palace in SW sets!
  21. if you could afford to buy 2 or 3 sets of this, you could make one magnificent village... or PaB some extra trees and housing. yep... it's on the list
  22. your city is an inspiration and base standard that i am trying to use. if i can do a job half as good as yours, i know im doing ok.
  23. i dont think we will get a dedicated house, i think that is up to us to create ourselves.... i'd love to see a school or library next
  24. that is a fricken fantastic modular building. im glad you share your skills with us
