Scale Modeling Forum future?
Gray Gear replied to Milan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I think it could be differentiated by one simple question: Does it have functions of any kind? Yes: --> Technic&Model Team No: --> Special Lego Themes As far as I know all the Model Team vehicles had some basic functions, like steering for example. Keeping that in mind I can accept Creator Expert cars like the Porsche 911 or the Mustang as successors of the Model Team spirit. Function-free diplay models and even shoes on the otherhand do not belong here imo. -
Looks very good! The Challenger is instantly recognizable. What black bricks did you use around the corners of the taillights?

I think the "MOCs not getting a lot of comments" issue has two sides. One the one side there are the readers who are too lazy or whatever to take their time to comment on a MOC thread, even though they enjoyed it. I think this is bad, because it makes the MOCer feel like noone ist even interested in his MOC. Since EB does not have a "Like" function or something similar writing a comment is all you can do to tell the author you enjoyed his work (or what you think could be improved upon!) On the other side there are MOC creators who put no effort in presenting their MOC, (or even present a MOC that took no effort to make). I have seen enough threads with basically no text, maybe 1or 2 pics and that's it. I think it is the responsibility of a thread creator to take some time and at least try to make it interesting for the community to read. If that's too much work, then don't bother at all. That's just my take on the matter.

Reimagine/Redesign 42113
Gray Gear replied to 1963maniac's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Is this some kind of joke? -
@LvdH I am aware of this problem. I hope to provide a paintsceme that will be possible with only LEGO, but of course non-LEGO bricks or paint will probably be needed if you want to get creative yourself But I don't think that is a big problem because some people still build my MOCs even though non-LEGO bricks or paint are needed. LEGO purists might not like it, but I prefer to build a better MOC for myself that to worry about what bricks I am allowed to use during the build

@johnnym it is the same style of hood vent as on my R32, yes, but the design is not the same. The new design has only 3 blades instead of 4, and the gap between the blades is larger. I do think the vent you shared is cool too and would be possible to build for sure. But it is less common and you can't see the engine moving through the vents Building instructions will include a version where every bodypanel of the real car has have a different color, and a digital LDCad model too. That way everybody will be able to "paint" the MOC in LDCad the way they like and export the parts list afterwards. I hope this will inspire people to modify my MOC and make it their own!

[MOC] RC Daihatsu Hijet S110P
Gray Gear replied to syclone's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Very nice. Printing is expensive for sure, but I think if I get plates for all my cars at once it might be worth the cost. I'd like to get a temporary plate (yellow with red stripe across) for my Widebody RX-7 because I read it is often used to drive tuner cars on the street that wouldn't get a normal plate -

Very cute Awd in such a small truck is pretty awesome, but I doubt it has to be really off road capable. After all, these small kei trucks are best suited for urban environments, right? +respect for the correct Japanese Plates in yellow color, looks so cool. I think I will finally have to get some printed license plates for my JDM cars as well -
I made a new hood design with a big hood vent. I think it suits the car very well! It was very difficult to make a hood vent because the area that connects the front piece of the hood to the rest is only very thin. Thinner that a Liftarm between the pop-ups. I had to use some more snot- techniques, but it worked out fine I think. I know beam staking ist a beginner technique, and I usually avoid using it. But I can't use a 5x11 panel because the rounded edge is needed for the hood to close properly. I think beam stacking is the best solution in this case, because my alternative looked like this: Not very good either, right? I think I prefer the beam staking.

I prefer to work with real bricks, and only do the digital model afterwards for the building instructions. That way I can see right away if something works or is rigid enough, and don't keep building on an uncertain foundation. I also like using my hands and how the bricks feel while building, it is something I don't want to lose.

42110 C-Model: Helicopter
Gray Gear replied to Pattspatt's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I really like this B-Model, well done! TLG will come banging on your door because it is an olive LEGO Helicopter with no "Rescue" markings -
I have mode some progress Fist of all I made some changes to the front frame to allow the radiator to be mounted like this: Second I started with the interior. The gaps will be filled with the new 1 stud wide panel (Part 71708) Turning the blue gear 1/4 turn switches between 4wheel steering and 2 wheel steering. The LBG gear is to control the pop-up headlights. And last I finished that top slope of the front bumper (studs are only temporary, I don't have the needed brick modified). And I made a hood: I am not really happy with how the hood looks, as I expected such a big flat surface looks kind of plain. Hood Vents it is! One thing I would like to show in detail is the use of 5L plates with rounded corners. they work really well here, because they look very similar to liftarms. This buildding technique was needed to give the headlights enough space to open and close. That's all for now! @syclone yes the window frame would bend under the weight of the trunk The folding mechaism is probably my best bet I think.

[MOC] Iveco X-way 2021
Gray Gear replied to Rebel_Lego's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Very cool, I like it better than the Mack Truck. -
Well the 18+ logo often comes with an 18+ pricetag, so it does change something for children.

I can't understand all those people who just want to defend TLG for everything they do... Nah, I'll save my breath, you see where this is going.

Are you serious? Just proves looks are a question of individual taste. I'd pick the yellow Ural trucks over the Zetros anyday. The Fiat tho... Well it's a fiat, so yeah, you got a point there

[MOC] Kettenkrad
Gray Gear replied to Samolot's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I always really liked the Kettenkrad. I saw it in a Museum a while ago, and recently I watched the Anime "Girl's last tour" (can only recommend), and it made me like the Kettenkrad even more! A true marvel of german engineering Your LEGO version is really well done, steering system and all! Deserved Frontpage for sure. I am glad you didn't give up until the MOC was finally completed. Truly thank you for sharing this, it made my day. -
"ThIs iS noT A fAiR ComParIsoN" Yes it isn't, and that is the point. The community doesn't need to compare it to other vehicles with similar problems, just because TLG decided a third axle was too expensive. Sariel put it up to some rear trial trucks to show the weaknesses of the Zetros. And I think TLG could and should have done a lot better for 300$. A 3rd axle would have been a must.
