[MOC] 90's Honda NSX
Gray Gear replied to Gray Gear's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I wondered nobody commented that on that earlier. I know this might trigger some people, but I'm gonna be honest with you all. They are from china, the chrome rims are as well, and some other stuff I could not find in the right color. I dont give a lot about where my bricks come from as long as they are good quality, and when LEGO decides the only wheel arch colors available should be Orange or some rare as hell blue tones I'm not gonna comply with that. The only color options for this car for me were White, Red or Black. And since NICO71 already did Red and White and I had a lot of black Bricks already, I went with Black. I dont know If doing Instructions is worth the trouble, because its no use if noone builds your Model. And I dont know if anyone would want to Mix their Lego with some off brand pieces the way I do. The only way to build this model in one color is to get some off band wheel arches. But anyone is ready to use some off brand pieces, Black, Red and White should be possible, probably even more. You think it still would be worth it? I have some beginner Skills in LDCad, but i have not been able to figure out how to make instructions. Tips are welcome ;) Youtube Video might be coming in the Future. I have never done any video editiong before, and I am still stuck with my Smartphone (Oneplus 5), I dont have a real Camera. So we'll see how that goes.- 87 replies

So, I am 20yo right now and have been building with lego since i was like 5 or 6yo. I have always built from lego what I was intrested in, be it guns, knives, trucks, tanks, or cars. Technic was always my favorite. From first transmission concept to final product it took me about 4 months. During that time I took the car apart many times to improve rigidity of the whole body, or to fit in a function. (Example: The switch on the center console used to pop up the headlights is hinged on the axle that transfers rotation to the steering wheel, one hell of a ride to get that to work) Everything was redone at least once. You name it, it has been improved or modified at some point. I even had to reduce the width of the already working transmission by 1 stud on each side to be able to fit the rear suspension system. I ordered a lot of bricks just to get everything as close to perfect as possible. I had to wait a lot for new parts to arrive, so I often went back to alredy finished sections and improved them. This is the first large scale car I ever built, so of course I ducked some things up in the beginning which had to be changed or improved on like 2 months later when I got some more expirienced. But it was so much fun, cant wait to order some new pieces for my next Project car Gray Gear- 87 replies

While the car your model is based on definatelly isnt my taste, I still have to say you did some great work. And the seats made ot tank treads are awesome. I have to say I am worried about the suspension system, especially in the front. That yellow piece holding the small ballpin in place will break sooner or later, its just a really fragile piece and the angle the link is coming up is far from ideal. I suggest reworking or reinforcing that small section.

More Pics are coming up soon, I am just working on a LDCad Model to show the Transmission. Yes, all functions are operated by hand.- 87 replies

I could do an underbelly picture, but it probably would not be very helpful, almost the entire Transmission is covered by the shifting mechanism underneath it. The transmission is what I built the whole car around, so it is one hell of a complicated mechanism. I can work a little with LDD or LDCad, so maybe ill do a Model and upload it here somehow, if that would help. But no promises- 87 replies

Hello there, This is my dream car which I'll probably never be able to afford, so I built it myself This model is finished, so while I'd love to hear your opinion, it probably won't result in any changes Scale: 1:7.7 These functions are controlled in the inside of the car: -Pop up headlights -6 speed manual tansmission hooked up to a exposed fake Engine -front boot release (or whatever this is called) -steering (and HoG) Doors and trunks and glass engine cover can be opened. Double wishbone suspension all around Ackerman steering geometry Detailled interior and Engine bay Sariels Model Scaler helped me soo much to get all the proportions and angles accurate, I can only recommend using it. I tried to make the car look as clean as possible by replacing different colored pins and stuff with black ones, as far as possible. Instructions are now available on Rebrickable: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-30093/Gray_Gear/moc-90s-honda-nsx/#comments These pictures are not very good quality, because I took them with my smartphone in my dusty basement, and because I basically dont know anything about photography. Hope you enjoy them anyways. Gray Gear Here are some pictures of just the transmission, the shift mechanism will follow up soon ;) The green Gear is where the Crankshaft of the Engine is attached. This is the shift mechanism. The red parts are directly moving the Gear rings. Hopefully this helps to understand how things work. Blue = 1/2 gear Yellow = 3/4 gear Gray = 5/6 gear The Green Assembly is to stop multiple Gears to engage at the same time. It picks up the left and right movement of the shift lever and moves a sliding blocking piece in parrallel to the lever. Like this, it is impossible to engage a gear without moving the shift lever, and multiple gears cant engage at the same time and cause a block. Gray Gear

Hi, my name is Moritz and I am from Germany. I am mostly intrested in Car or Technic Mocs. Just finished my "Abitur", so I finally get around to join this Community and also show off some of my own creations. Hopefully. I am not a big social media dude, and this is the first forum i have ever joined. I'll try my best, but expect some stupid mistakes

okay, this seems to work fine -
Do you plan to use stickers for the Subaru Logo? Because I saw a brick built Subaru Logo a while ago, just cant remember where. It was made from a blue 2L technic Liftarm thin (41677) with one white and one black 2l Axle (32062) inside. Looked pretty good imo, I thought you could use that Idea

I know that Bodywork is a lot of work, especially doing complicated angles. I have been there myself, took me over 2 months to get everything right. The way I ended up doing it is to only design the Bodywork which had to be done to get the functions to work, like the middle console for a manual transmission, and to just leave enaugh space where complicated Bodywork is needed. I guess everyone has to find their own way of doing things in the end. Using sariels model scaler helped me a lot to get the dimensions right. And you are totally right, if the car does not look good, no functions can repair that.
-
Doing the Bodywork first is probably a good Idea for smaller Models like your amazing S2000 that have relatively simple internals. But for models with complicated functions like Gearboxes and stuff, you sometimes have to design the whole body around these functions. In my Honda NSX MOC (which I hope to upload here soon) I started with the 6 speed manual Transmission and built the whole car around it. There is no way I could have put in such a complicated mechanism in after doing the bodywork.

I'd use frame pieces instead of panels for structure, they offer way more fleyibility, and are way easier to use to achieve good stuctural integrity. I dont want to insult your work, but imo everything looks kind of fragile. The front bodywork looks pretty good though, the hood scoop is something I would try to improve tho. Put that hole in the hood, please .
