  1. Nice detailing all around, especially the pantograph! The color scheme looks great.
  2. Great build! I like the detailed interior and the overgrown look around the equipment box. @Brandon Pea That brake van had it coming!
  3. In the 1990s when the western sets were produced, westerns were having a bit of a resurgence at the cinema. Movies like Dances With Wolves, Crossfire Trail, and Quigley Down Under (yes, that still counts as a western!) were quite popular around that time and Lego capitalized on the popularity of the genre. When westerns become popular again on the big screen, we'll probably see more western Lego sets - hopefully soon!
  4. You did it - you actually made Technic interesting! That's a really nice locomotive and I like how it's driven by the rods. The second variant in the grey and black livery is beautiful.
  5. Nope...it's definitely going to be a TIE chariot pulled by those space horses from TROS!
  6. I like the livery and shaping on the corridor locomotive, and that dome car looks great! Well done! From what little I know of Canada, that project probably benefited from the fact that Toronto is the center of the universe... Anyway, best of luck in reaching 10k soon!
  7. Great progress so far! I would recommend looking into MILS modules...it seems to be a good way to standardize sections of terrain. Here's a link: http://l-gauge.org/wiki/index.php/Modular_Standards It would also be useful if you ever wanted to integrate your modules into a group layout. I look forward to seeing your progress!
  8. Love it! Plus, unlike speed champions, they might be able to get around licensing difficulties by producing historical models from well-known but now defunct railways. For example, a GNR single or a New York Central streamliner.
  9. Looking good so far - I can't wait to see your progress! (I never knew there even was a 4-6-6T...it took 'Murica to show the world what a tank engine could be! )
  10. I love the color scheme and detailing. Great job!
  11. Great work - I'm looking forward to seeing the completed machine shop!
  12. I guess then it's called a SEC - Someone Else's Creation! (Saying the abbreviation out loud could create some funny confusion: "Hey, do you have any MOCs?" "No, but I have lots of SECs!" )
  13. Finally managed to find the pirate girl! I'm not sure about other areas in the USA, but several Walmarts that I've been to in the NC Triad have the CMFs for $2.
  14. I've just used 5mm LEDs from the local hobby shop. They fit the hole in a technic brick as if they were made for it. It's easy to connect them to switches and batteries with a soldering iron. This was my first lighting project from almost a year ago: And a more recent endeavor: Pros: Cheap, widely available, can be customized to your exact needs, available in several colors (solid or flashing). Cons: Requires cutting/splicing wires and soldering to connect to a power supply, may require extra resistors depending on voltage. Overall, I would recommend getting some 3mm or 5mm LEDs and a battery holder and trying your hand at a DIY lighting kit!
  15. Personally, I would find it more helpful to have some way of separating or differentiating the Medieval/Castle/Fantasy builds (which seem to make up the vast majority of the forum's topics) from other historic themes. While the Pirates forum is a good home for any Age of Discovery/Enlightenment/Napoleonic subjects, MOCs based on other periods in history seem a bit out of place in what is essentially a Medieval forum. But there don't seem to be enough topics dedicated to ancient history or the western/Civil War/Victorian age to warrant another sub-forum, so I don't know if there is a solution. It just seems a bit odd that a MOC based on, say, the Battle of Gettysburg would go in the same forum as one based on Helm's Deep.
  16. That looks awesome! It's very well detailed. Great tip about the coffee stirrers too!
  17. I second this. Even though I probably wouldn't buy any of the sets, it would be a nice way to bring down the cost of train-specific parts and maybe even get wheels and buffers in new colors.
  18. Very nice! I've also seen those on sidings and always wondered what they were used for. Great build!
  19. @LEGO Train 12 Volts Thanks!
  20. In case you're interested, here's a well-known armored train from the classic film "Dr. Zhivago." https://www.seanmichaelragan.com/html/[2008-09-30]_Armored_train_from_Doctor_Zhivago.shtml It might be a good source of inspiration.
  21. I think he meant a proper hook for fishing @Pdaitabird you must give us a report if you try I think I'll give it a try this summer...but in keeping with tradition, the size of my catch may be exaggerated!
  22. Makes me think...if you could attach a hook to it, the Lego fish in some of the brighter colors might actually make an effective lure. Has anyone ever tried it?
  23. Yes, my driver and I always get excited about tournament night, when all the monocled millionaires joust in limousines! Next time I'll try for either the knight, the pirate, or the viking.
  24. Series 20 just showed up in the local Walmart...I got the diver thinking it was the tournament knight. In case anyone is looking for one or the other, those small plant pieces feel a lot like a shield!
  25. That's a great looking train! The colors of the passenger cars look nice and very Christmas-y. To really be film-accurate, just make the number of cars in the train inexplicably change from scene to scene. Great work!
