Technic 2020 Set Discussion
Rudivdk replied to dimaks13's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The buggy reminds me of my first ever Technic set, so gonna get that for sure. Mini Claas doesn't do much for me, I love the big Claas but I'm not that much a fan of the genre to want this one also... Maybe for a good price as a partspack... I'm pleasantly surprised by the pullbacks, finally after some years of experiments (engine blocks flying around, 'how can we reduce part count below minimum') we get some properly designed models again. And both their own B-model instead of a combined one is also a nice surprise. Seems like I have to pick up on collecting pullbacks again. The catamaran seems like (test?)phase II of Technic boats... They first tested the market with the sailboat (which was my latest purchase btw), and after positive results they now release take II with specified parts for Technic boats. Like others said, I can see RC boats coming in the near future. Would be a logical step considering the added range of C+ compared to PF, and the fact that light-flickering from water surface does not have an effect on bluetooth... Stunt truck and bike are just not for me. Doesn't look like new parts, maybe some recolors but not much... The crane is an absolute musthave, 8460 all over again. I remember drooling over the catalog pics for hours back then (man, I'm getting old...) Love it! But come on TLG, still no panel #21 & #22 in yellow...? Top Gear car is just too expensive for my taste. I'm not ready for C+ yet (I have a large PF collection) so I'll skip that. It is good to see that these kind of licenses are coming into Technic though, it is a strong brand name but leaves a lot of freedom in design. Would like to see more of this kind of collaborations in the future. -
I think we can't blame them for developing further on something that has proven succesfull. At least they create their own designs (MOC if you will), so how different from us AFOLs are they...? I have watched part of ALF's review, and I must say that some of the CADA parts are rather smart moulds that are not available in LEGO as a single piece. I think with CADA you would be able to even build stronger constructions compared to LEGO. But still, I could never bring myself to buying anything non-LEGO...

Technic 2020 Set Discussion
Rudivdk replied to dimaks13's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
If the set name actually is 'mini Claas Xerion', than it will have the license for sure. 9390 did not have 'Unimog' or some other MB reference in it's official set name. I don't think having a license will matter for the price though, but it will sure boost up the sales... -
You could try these in combination with some liftarms, it will make a solid connection to the axle running inside the bumper, and you can hook up some more axle based connectors to it to stiffen it further. I never build a front bumper without these . Entire model looks great though, reminds me of Natanael Kuipers' little pony car in terms of size and functionality. That was the most pleasing supercar build to date for me because of the size it was all packed in. And it's good to see some other body shape compared to all supercars flying about... Nice job sofar!

Studless vs. Studful
Rudivdk replied to timslegos's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It would be nice though to see if the perception to this question has changed after so many years of studless models from TLG and from the community. At the start of this topic in 2011 studless was considered (too?) difficult to master compared to the studfull we all knew, but now we have a whole generation that grew up with studless only... I never use studfull anymore in any of my MOCs (apart from decoration here and there), and my selection of studfull technic parts pales in comparison to the load of studless I have laying around. Times have changed... -
Estimating part count?
Rudivdk replied to Carsten Svendsen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
+1, if you do not have the posibility to get a more accurate count I would just put '6000+ parts'. -
Estimating part count?
Rudivdk replied to Carsten Svendsen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Since I always build a digital copy of all my MOCs, the software keeps track of my partscount... I would not know how to do an estimate, only thing I know is that in a MOC, the partscount is usually higher compared to a similar official model. Edit: at LEGO World I saw a lot of MOCs with a partscount mentioned as 'a lot' or 'enough'... Seems you are not the only one to struggle with this... -
[MOC] Rolls Royce Phantom (2018)
Rudivdk replied to Appie's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I was lucky enough to see this model at LEGO World, and I have to say: it looks REALLY good in real life! Much better than on the pics (and probably my pics don't do it justice either)... Had a nice chat with @Appie as well. Thanx for that! -
Cool to see my gearbox put to use. And nice to see another fan of Sheepo's MPS system. I do not have any experience with LPE engines, but I can imagine some power being generated with those. I never designed/intended my gearbox for motorized use, so you might want to add some more bracing around it otherwise I suspect it will fail after a fee runs... Interesting project, I will follow this.

Great little build! Very good job at cramming 5 operated functions into such a small body. And smart use of parts to create all the shapes and especially that bucket.

I had this issue VERY noticeably in the 42075 Fist Responder set where I just could not get the engine running smoothly. It made a hell of a rattling noise and the vehicle wasn't able to roll on after being pushed, just too much friction. Tracked it down to the tan bevel gears (more precise, the straight mesh between a 20t and a 12t bevel gear) in the driveline. Haven´t noticed this while MOCcing though, although I have bought some sets newer than 42075 with tan bevel gears in them, so either I am lucky in picking my tan gears or this shape issue is not the case for every new gear that is produced (are parts of the same type produced with more than 1 mold or even in more than 1 single factory? It could be that 1 mold is flawed, not the actual partdesign...)

Shall we focus on the actual review here guys and take/keep the polite discussion to the general 42110 discussion topic? All this gearbox sentiment is not Sariels doing... (@Jim correct me if this is considered mini-modding...) Anyway @Sariel thanks for the great review. Same as @JunkstyleGio I played the speedbuild part at 0.25x speed and it was a very pleasant watch. Looks like a very interesting build to me. And 1 PP (pug-power) for a 1:10scale plastic car is not bad at all .

42110 - Land Rover Defender
Rudivdk replied to 1gor's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It could be possible theoretically, but I think it would be practically unfeasible. It would drive the price up a lot, and olive green in itself is not a licensed color in other LEGO themes. It also doesn't fit with LEGO's previous color introductions. Even LBG/DBG, which where introduced as part of the Star Wars licence, are not limited to Star Wars alone. And with the volume of Star Wars sales that would have been a possibility. But then again... there is 42039... and 42048/42069... -

@Wolf_Zipp and all others that participated/contributed: that is beautiful, very nice initiative! -

Yeah, could also be just that... Maybe I was to eager to hear a statement. -
42110 - Land Rover Defender
Rudivdk replied to 1gor's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Milan (grohl) explicitly states in his YT review movie that it is the first technic set to use the olive green color. That's a very specific thing to say, he could also have said something like olive green is authentic to Landrover or something else about the color itself. Let's hope it is exactly what he says: the first of (many?) more. I personally like the color, gives all new posibilities for (construction? military?) vehicles and even airplanes/helicopters. Would also love to see how it combines with for example red or 'bley'... -
Ingmar Spijkhoven Passed Away
Rudivdk replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Sad news... I still remember getting a copy of 8436 and seeing later what Ingmar was able to do with those tires. Blew my mind away... Truly genious and inspiring builder. I have never known about his illness, makes his creations and perseverance all the more admirable. Rest In Peace Ingmar! My condoleances to everyone close to him. -
42097 Spider Crane
Rudivdk replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
SC could be as simple as 'Spider Crane', or 'Small Crane' (or 'Sweet Candy' ). The numbers don't ring a bell to me... -
@woodstock you could try this gear with one of these halfbushes (or type I) on both ends (or even 1 halfbush and that gold ring on the other side, as long as the little teeth are clutching). Make sure those bushes are cracked as Lipko suggests, so they slide easier (I think half of my stock of old half bushes is cracked...).

Help me identify the wheels
Rudivdk replied to Yevhen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
On second look I also think it's custom rims. But there is only 1 belt wheel behind each rim, as the pins used are Dark (Stone?) Grey, meaning they are 3/4 pins instead of full pins. -
Help me identify the wheels
Rudivdk replied to Yevhen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
@Yevhen @Void_SAren't those just the standard wheels seen on set 8828 for example? With these rims and tires? They are the predecessor of the wheels mentioned by @keymaker... -
GBC Serpentines
Rudivdk replied to mout173's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hi, I'm not really into GBC's but I just googled on 'Lego GBC Serpentines'... I think you are looking for this one? http://alittleslow.wikidot.com/wiki:serpentine On the bottom select the 'files' link and you should be able to download the instructions pdf from there. -
I know that feeling, and I've seen the same for other contestants as well... I have the same issue with my control surfaces, and still not entirely satisfied (my ailerons are not pointing downwards enough in centered position, although range is good). Non of it is fool proof when it comes to building it, it takes alligning the teeth on the gears involved and tweaking the length of the linkage axles to get the movement just right. "Acceptable" is indeed the only correct word here... Still, it made for an excellent building/MOCcing experience, and I really enjoyed all the tweaking and the endresult it provided. And that's what this hobby is all about after all right?
