  1. I would like to think that you got Jeroen to the point that he created a model of 'gandalf'... But that doesn't add up with the clamshell hood or the rearaxle gearbox...
  2. I'm gonna have to try this one as well, I'm working on an RC 1:10 car with full interior inside, and this might just be small enough to be able to get a gearbox in without interfering with the interior space. As mentioned by others @Didumos69: yet another fine addition to all the gearbox/shifter/stepper concepts you have been sharing with us over the past months (years?). Thanx a lot!!
  3. TLG still uses old beams in Technic models. Look at the 2nd stage of 42082's boom for instance, and the seats and rear light of the 42083 Chiron are completely system built, and attach to old style beams in the frame beneath. Even the upcoming Liebherr excavator seems to have a lot of system details attached on old style beams. But I believe the days of a full studded-beam-built Technic model are behind us, TLG made a deliberate step towards studless, and I don't expect them to go back.
  4. Guess we'll never know... but it's a fact that your plane as it now is is a really really great MOC. Posting it here after the contest means it does not have to share the spotlights with 10+ 'similar' builds, and that seems fair to me.
  5. Yep, absolutely top notch stuff. I would be surprised if this would not have won the competition. Looks fantastic, and the controls are perfectly executed, both functionally and from playability perspective. Dual joystick AND HoG all controlling the same function and seemingly frictionless and without real slack, just wow... And the slight upwards angle on the wings really tops it all off I too am glad you stuck with it and finished it, the model deserves it and you deserve the praise!
  6. I would really like them to be yellow, but I'll not get my hopes up just yet. We'll see when proper pics are released. Ah yes you're right, I completely forgot that set... That only increases the chance of seeing them appear in other new sets (and further lower their price...)
  7. That is quite a line-up I guess this would rival even @Blakbird's collection in it's peak days!
  8. A little OT... look at those JCB tyres, they're like a near perfect reallife version of Lego Claas tyres. Would become a huge MOC though... Back on topic: looking again at that little grainy image, I think the rack housings are indeed LBG and not yellow, with only the parts around it (beams, connectors etc.) in yellow. Wishing out loud: Hopefully some #2 connectors in yellow...
  9. Remember 8109, which had a brilliantly hidden towbar. Ramp could be done in a similar way, it is not uncommon for these types of car transporters. The lower bed sits pretty high up, so maybe there is room for an extending ramp underneath...
  10. I was thinking the same, looks like 2studs high to me as well instead of 11x3 panels... Apart from that @Cumulonimbus nice work on reverse engineering both the truck and car!!
  11. Following this years 42096 Porsche licenced set as 1H flagship with similar price would make more sense indeed. Official presentation in October maybe (is there some Landrover event planned at the same time?)...
  12. I'm hoping to put in elevons controlled from the cockpit, propeller blade pitch control, rotating rotary gun in the nose and maybe folding landing gear. But the current design might prove to be too small for all that... About the colors: technic does not offer a wide variety of colors, especially not with the specific combination of pieces I used... I could do an all dark blue version with the zebra wings (basically just ditch the yellow parts for dark blue), or all black (even with full black wings), but that is as close to 'military' it would get I think... I'll play around with some more colors to see what else can be done... I think I will start a separate topic for this build, I don't want to hijack your topic. Just gotta decide whether to put it in Sci-Fi or in Technic...
  13. Yup, it could look something like below. What do you think? Would it be worth continuing on this concept?
  14. Now I am flattered, it's cool how we both inspire each other to venture into new grounds. I hope you have a good time on that container truck, it's a nice and playable little build. I've spend my evening modelling my first Sky-fi aircraft in MLCad, but unfortunately my laptop crashed just now so I can't show any pics of it . Second try tomorrow...
  15. Let's hope so. If the number of sets will grow, there will be more room for niche items in a years line-up as well, and AFOL-oriented is definately a niche. But let's not turn this into a speculation or wish topic, we have different threads for that. Let's just wait until new (confirmed) information pops up.
  16. Thanks @pombe! @Digger of Bricks gave me quite some research material, I'm gonna take some time to check it all out. But it was your MOC that pulled me into this niche to begin with... and since it's design is somewhat related to a P-38, it feels like a good template for me to cross over to sky-fi technic. We'll see what comes out of it, guess I would have to focus more on (wacky) functions to keep it 'technic'.
  17. I don't have the small ones yet, but I already liked the big ones to be used other than a wheelarch. You did an excellent job with the small arches both on the monocoque and on the rear
  18. And they also mention more smaller Technic sets coming this year, aimed at kids...? What's all this, TLG is introducing a third annual wave of Technic sets?
  19. Ah I overlooked the part about it being this specific reallife store that was not done before... my bad, no disrespect meant to all that actually did do a Lego store modular before...
  20. Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy. Thanx a ton for the tip!! Dunno even where to start looking...
  21. Nice build @Berthil, something else than the builds I usually see from you in technic forum, but equally great nontheless. Like you said, it's weird no-one has ever done a Lego shop modular, it's so obvious actually...
  22. Ah yes, LBG+DBG+yellow. Would be cool to have it in ~same scale as the Lightning, recreate a true WWII scene with them.
  23. @pombe Really cool creation!! Although I mostly favor technic building, I find this MOC very appealing. Never knew actually that there was something like a Sky-Fy theme... I dig it!! This plane looks interesting enough to have a go at in Technic actually, I just gained some experience with building a technic (twin-boom) plane anyway. If you're OK with it, I'll keep this one in mind when/if I start my next plane MOC.
  24. I can't help but think of one of those 'auto-steering' pullback toycars, where rotation of the wheels/drivetrain induces a zigzag steering movement... Would be quite funny actually on something the size of the Unimog
