  1. The actual topic is less interesting to me, but I would really like to see a contest with some sort of size constraints again. Whether it would be a box of AxBxC studs, or a parts max doesn't really matter to me either. But the challenge of making something work in the smallest possible way is always intriguing me.
  2. I guess some people in TLG had the same sort of experience and started looking for 'foolproof' building solutions. It started with the 42070 of course (well, as @Jim proved, it still was not fully foolproof...), and then took a next step in 42082. Can't say I feel bad about it, it gives identical parts in different colors in a single set which is a plus (opposed to the former strict colorcoding per type of part in a set) and it breaks the repetitive feeling somewhat since the looks of an identical subassembly are a little different.
  3. Well, with the TC15 prize my unimog tyre total goes to 8 I probably won't be able to do yellow, but I have a solid collection of panels in black and white, in all shapes, so with some small adjustments I should be able to get it done. The 3/5x11 sloped panels above the cabin could be replaced with one 3x11 and one 5x11 in both black or white for example to reduce the number of sloped panels. White would go very well with the Liebherr 9800... As for saving out on panels: you might check large system plates or tiles to cover a beam built tipping bed
  4. The V2 looks really good. I think I found the perfect model to put my unimog wheels to use
  5. I knew about this topic, but never took the time to really check it out... shame on me Very cool mechanisms, really smart engineering to build them out of Lego and at this small scale! Like jorgeopesi said, a whole new world of mechanical solutions to discover!
  6. Thanks @I_Igor. I have been lucky with the car, only some bodywork damage and all has insurance. About building and borrowing ideas, I will make instructions for the Lightning, so all mechanisms will be exposed and easily reproducable. You just need to be able to wait some time, instructions don't come fast... Mixing DBG panels and other parts for top side and LBG for bottom side should give some more options for proper bodywork, and still be true to a real plane's colorscheme. Even Dark Blue for top side could work (e.g. vought f4u corsair). Don't feel restricted by what is not available, be inspired by what is available
  7. Same advise here, start small. Small builds have interesting solutions because of parts limitations or size constraints. Lessons you cannot learn from the big sets. Often they have some interesting pieces as well. And if by any change Lego Technic turns out not to be your thing, you haven't invested high amounts of money. Like Maaboo said: if you like it, you'll be building the big guns in only a few months time...
  8. I also had e-type on my mind, but you could be right there about d-type
  9. Just watched a vid about Ken Block driving the real Hoonicorn v2 up Pikes Peak, d*mn that guy is as insane as this car... This build is truly a masterpiece when it comes to replicating the original. And @Lox Lego: did you use chromed 8880 steering wheel hub large for the turbo inlets? Brilliant!!!
  10. Great model! The overall shape is instantly recognizable, the detailing is superb, and the building techniques used (especially your signature wheel arches) fit the model perfectly. As PvdB said: I would also love to see some more of 'the insides', it all looks and sounds like you packed some pretty neat features in there. Well done!!
  11. Well, since this topic isn't locked I guess I can reply here... Thanx to all my fellow EB members for voting on my build, I feel honored by it! Thanx to all other participants for making this a great contest, and congratulations to @braker23, @kodlovag and @m00se. Thanx @Jim for setting it all up. It makes an otherwise crappy day turn out pretty well (I was in a car accident this morning, no-one hurt but still quite an impact both literally and figuratively...). As I feel I want to give something back to the community, I hereby promise to create and share building instructions of this model. I can't make promises about a timeframe, but it will be done. Thanx again to all!!
  12. EVERYTHING about this initiative and the people/charity involved IS AWESOME!!!
  13. It is the "Hidden Side" Theme, a new theme where you use an augmented reality app together with your physical build to create new play experience (free translation to LEGO's official advertising texts, I have no opinion on it myself...)
  14. I've kept score since vote #1, and taken into account the 50posts rule in separate calculation. Currently no difference in outcome between #1 and #2 with or without the rule applied. 3rd prize is raffle prize, so will be on staff anyways to decide.
  15. That equals ~ €100 and €150, that's not too bad at all... (not taking into account the price differences between continents and countries...) I figured the transporter might have been a bit more expensive...
  16. Built it myself just now as well, works like a charm. I swapped a few blue axle pins with friction to the tan axle pins without friction to make it move smoother, does not seem to impact the strength at all. Great little mechanism!
  17. This looks sweet! Gotta build me one of these landing gears in real bricks for sure! I just hope it will be strong enough to keep some weight... Doesn't look that strong on first sight with all the connectors etc. I was thinking about something like this during TC15 design phase, more specifically the Vought F4U Corsair, but the system you chose seems 'simpler' to replicate in Lego.
  18. Just to let you guys know: @Bartybum you miss one vote in voting topic, you have not given out the 3 points... @I_Igor your last two votes both got 2 points...
  19. Let's kick it off then. It was hard to choose, but since this is Technic, functionality was the biggest factor in my decision, followed by looks and originality: 4:10 1:6 5:4 12:3 17:2 11:1 Good luck to all!
  20. Huh, so much for trusting a manufacterer on his own product... Thanx for pointing it out, changed my description.
