  1. Guess I'm somewhere in the middle... Sometimes I build slow and savor every piece being installed, next time I build as fast as I can (and usually well below review stated build times). Does not matter whether the set is big or small, new or used, it's just whatever I feel like at that moment. Like @Lipko said, even during speed building I can still learn a piece's properties or try the functions. And same as @Erik Leppen: once I start on a set I find it very hard to stop a building session, I just want to go on 'till it's done (this sometimes triggers speedbuilding, because I want to 'finish book 1 before midnight'). But I do feel that build time in itself should not be considered as a KPI for how good a set is or how skilled a builder is, it just happens.
  2. Thanx all!! @Berthil: creating pics and video is not my strong point, I hope I won't let you down there...
  3. Nice update, you really captured the look of the studded vesion now!
  4. This is shaping up really well! The black/white two tone with the red stripe give it that luxury feel fitting for this type of airplane, and it looks great. I think you already have all the controls and functions in there, so this should be a very strong contest entry when finished. I'm glad you found the time and inspiration to pull it off!!
  5. She is finished...: Unfortunately I haven't been able to speed up the landing gear. But it works and she is perfectly balanced on her wheels now. I have tried to fill as many of the gaps in the body as possible, and I think the end result is pretty smooth. Biggest win though is that I managed to put in a significant structural improvement. There is still some diagonal wobble, and she should not be lifted from the wing tips or any other extreme, but overall she is pretty robust. So 1 week left for final photo's and video, should be OK.
  6. Very cool build! All controls are working nicely, some real intricate linkages and gear tranflsfers going on there. It looks rather difficult to make a nice 'flight' sequence in a single video take, kudo's for that!
  7. Very nice model of a very unusual plane/copter/flying thing... You've really managed to put a lot of controls and functions in there! Nice touch with the motorization from the display stand. And very nice video presentation. All in all: great contest entry! Good luck in final voting!
  8. I was actually surprised about the size of the Hunter, I think they end up in similar scale. They are same length, only P38 is wider of course. After completing I just had to take a pic of them together... Hope you don't mind seeing my build pop up in your topic during the contest though. Just say the word and I will remove it...
  9. I just couldn't resist... It's a fantastic build, interesting, sturdy, smooth functions: very well done!
  10. Looking at the (size and shape of the) brick built actuators and 'empty' crossblocks above them, it was intended as a pneumatic model. So very functional and technic actually... EDIT: @Lipko I know that ~700 votes is not that much, but I meant that this model from Ideas appeared to be re-created by TLG in even larger scale as ultimate flagship... But MOC creator already stated that Liebherr cooperation was started before this MOC...
  11. Huh... who said Technic doesn't do well on Lego Ideas...? https://ideas.lego.com/projects/f62cd20a-b8fc-4988-b817-628507cd3503 According to the 100 votes milestone, this entry is from late 2017/early 2018. That's about when development for 2019 wave started right? Coincidence?
  12. @Lipko: rear landing gear legs have a lock built into the folding hinge already, front leg locks itself because it unfolds beyond 90 degrees. But all the (worm)gears, u-joints and linkages in the drivetrain require a lot of torque, without stalling the white 24t clutch gear.
  13. It currently runs through 2x wormgear to get the desired torque for locking them in extended position. From the motor it is going through a 24t clutchgear, to prevent the propellers from stalling. There is not much room left to change this drivetrain. True. Although it will not easily come apart, the whole build has flex indeed. Mainly the parts where the twin booms are connected to the wings has a lot of flex, because I have only 2studs high space to make the transverse connections (due to panel covers). It is less noticable when the plane is on its own wheels though. Guess this build would classify as a functional display-model, not a swooshable play-model.
  14. Thanx all for the kind words! Keeps me motivated to finish this
  15. Still have it built from day one and double checked just now: it is exactly the same for me... This is just the way it was designed, you did nothing wrong... EDIT: And welcome to EB off course
  16. @BrickbyBrickTechnic: I know, I need to fill those gaps. But before I do so, I first have to take apart almost everything to fix some inner structure weak points. So I will only fix the gaps in the end, because after that it will be a big pain taking it all apart again... @I_Igor I had lost my interest in this build for a good week, then picked up on it in LDCad, and finally over the last few days I have been back at building bricks again. Seems the two added weeks might be my rescue after all... As for the tail looking hollow: it might be the angle of the video, here are some pics from different angle: And while I'm at it, here some more details: Cockpit: PF battery box hidden in the nose: Prop pitch control: "Steering" front wheel: Rear landing gear:
  17. Looking very good! I'm happy this one gives you some inspiration, good to have you in competition as well. When it comes to raw firepower this plane is already unbeatable
  18. Hi all, After a long period of silence I have a new update on this build. I managed to put most of the functions in and connect everything to their final controls. The 3-axis yoke is working like a charm! I still have to tidy up large parts of the plane, and reroute some functions to allow other parts to properly fit in, most notably the rear left landing gear (that's why the plane is now on a stand). But it is coming along very well: In chronological order: opening canopy 3-axis yoke controlling ailerons, elevator and rudder left and right PF M-motor (activated by PF switch in center wing parts) spinning the props (in opposite direction to each other, like in the real P38) right motor also driving a forward/reverse function gearbox for the landing gear (gear up in the video) left motor also driving a forward/reverse function gearbox for the flaps (flaps down in the video) Also there but not shown in vid: opening hatch in center fuselage for easy battery box control (on/off switch + charging outlet) prop blade pitch control (manual, from sides of engine fuselages) turning nose wheel for taxiing (manual) I hope that on next update she will stand on her own wheels again !
  19. Overall design also looks very very similar to stunt truck from 2017, but stripped down as @Jim mentioned. So double cop out as far as I'm concerned. Last year with Whack and Bash I broke my habit of yearly collecting the pullbacks, this years rendition makes that a final decision. Only thing they had going for them was design, and TLG took that out. I don't mind contributing to TLG's profits, but this is stretching it too much...
  20. Well, since the URL contains both set number and exact set name in french, we would only be able to find any other link if we exactly knew how it is numbered and named in french right? The fact that the poster of the links only posted 2 links, doesn't mean there are just 2 links. And as @Jim said, the fact there are 2 links doesn't mean per se there will be just 2 sets. Not implying anything here (I have no inside info whatsoever), but just sticking to what we do know atm. EDIT: actually we still know nothing about 2h for sure...
  21. Hmm, ~2500 pieces on the car transporter. If it would include a car at 42093 Corvette scale that would mean ~600 pieces for the car. That would leave us with ~1900 pieces for the truck (~same as 8258 crane truck which is in Arocs scale). Sounds promising...
  22. I only use these wheels on custom built hubs, for exactly this reason.... Wouldn't know any good solution to fit them to new hub piece, could it work with the 42083 break discs, a belt wheel and 3 black friction pins?
  23. Not really needed for me personally, but if it increases the amount of finished builds then by all means: yes, let's add two more weeks!
  24. Looks very nice and clean! I especially like the shaping of the cabin, nice curves in there. Good touch adding the rudders, glad that I could be of help Happy new year to you as well!
