Better settle in for a long wait...
-
The old fishing store submission was closer to a normal finished set though, so the smaller number of changes make sense there. I agree, OFS was a superior submission in all aspects, but it still required the assigned design team to do some work and stay faithful whilst not compromising on the overall look. The final interior dive shop for example was also excellently recreated and retains a lot of kid play value (so I’m not sure I agree with your general IDEAS target age comments) and the feel of a modular series set. It’s a hard act to follow. I think the key difference here with the medieval blacksmith house is you’ll need to mod in the first place in order just to get it up to spec rather than “enhance”.

The revised building aesthetic certainly takes some getting used to, and that’s being kind. Which I’m trying to be here despite my gut feeling. I’m ok with the structure and actually really like details such as the apple tree/well and the forge. I guess it’ll make a nice diorama for a surplus of minifigs from the last Castle theme. But jeez, that roof is a step too far. The blue Nexo shields are historically inaccurate and what are those sand green bits supposed to be, lichen or moss? Very lazy execution and there’s no excuse really. For me, the Old Fishing Store remains the gold standard in how to faithfully recreate from concept to final set, but it’s starting to look like an exception.

LEGO Monkie Kid 2020

A wider release outside of Asia with marketing support? Meh, too little too late. -
LEGO Ninjago 2021
Lucarex replied to Driver Brandon Grumman's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
This is all sadly true. I also think Ninjago has long overstayed it’s welcome and probably should have been retired after TLNM. It’s gain has seen the loss of those individual themes not just because they’ve been shoehorned into the perennial Ninjago series but also because the design resource has been retasked towards the cash cow. I’ve long lost hope of seeing a reboot of A&A themes like Ultra Agents, Atlantis or Pharaoh’s Quest. It’s bad enough that the in-house space/alien themes have been lost forever thanks to Star Wars, but as you’ve said, it’s the way of the Lego world these days. -

Actually it’s just changed to 20 January, so I ordered it. My point still remains but 3 weeks is better than 2 months. -
Chinese New Year Sets - Rumors and Discussion
Lucarex replied to Klaus-Dieter's topic in Special LEGO Themes
My issue isn’t limited stocks, it’s officially confirming a general release date, then quietly letting a few orders through a few 10 days early before slapping a 60 day back order on the set. -

So, it seems that in all European stores it says the same “back order ships in 60 days”. In the US store, it correctly (as per the press release) says “coming soon, available Jan 10”” Likewise as expected, it’s already available in Asia-Pac stores (I checked NZ). So what’s the deal with Europe? Is it a glitch? If so, why is Nian is available now to buy? -

So, I thought these were released in Europe on Jan 10? Yet appears Nian available to order immediately whilst Spring Lantern is on 60-day back order -
Botanical Collection - Rumours and Discussion

As much as it’s an instant buy tomorrow, I still get annoyed seeing that same brown for the stand as the Bonsai trunk. Why they couldn’t have just switched it out to say, tan, as a lighter “wood” to differentiate is beyond me. It’s the fly in the ointment of an otherwise perfect set.- 137 replies

LEGO Ninjago 2021

Quoting despite the length because this deserves to be read by everyone. Fantastic post. -
So with 2021 soon upon us, it won’t too be long until we know at least the identity of 21056. Speculation time maybe? Whilst I’d love to see Machu Picchu or Angkor Wat, it’s more likely to be a large scale Chrysler or Shard. And that’s my best case imagination.

Botanical Collection - Rumours and Discussion
Lucarex replied to Vilhelm22's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Not the first time (there was a polybag with trees and other green elements a couple of years ago) but I’d like to know which elements and how far TLG have developed this. It’s one of their goals after all. Value isn’t just PPP ratio. There’s value in the build itself, and the inclusion of cherry blossom (with pink frogs!) allowing the change of seasons represents added value.- 137 replies

LEGO Ninjago 2021

Nope. I passed on Docks and am now wondering what both corner plots will look like connected to each other. Thank you! This is what I love about the EB community. -

They’re already doubled in value, depends what you mean by skyrocket? Think a lot will depend how they fit and look together as not seen any box art yet. Thanks, of course... just couldn’t put my finger on it! Not sure trans neon orange is going to help my colour swap out plans though -
LEGO Ninjago 2021

Ok so my thoughts... Thankfully the build looks a LOT better with the detail and perspective this time round. But the colour scheme still grates, especially that ugly teal tower. Are those Vs a new piece (can’t recall seeing it before)? Hopefully it be possible to swap out for something less jarring. The rear view isn’t going to be any great reveal, it’s always the boring side. Minifigs are a bit meh (I’m still annoyed we never got more of the burnt Shark Army or the Narwhal guy from TLNM) but there’s a lot of them and a few I like at least. Overall, doesn’t quite have the vibe and wow factor of NC but it’s a big improvement on the lacklustre Docks. -
Chinese New Year Sets - Rumors and Discussion

Not really feeling the connected modular thing with Spring Lantern Garden. This would work with a open space/playground sort of build, but to me, this set would fit better placed directly to the rear of a building, quietly out the back as in the real life setting of these types of hidden away gardens. -

Glad this is being addressed, almost at the point of unfollowing the thread given level of adolescent posting recently. -

So, the blurry leaked image looks like a bucket of cold sick. Like they let the junior Monkie Kid designer loose after hours, with the result being a horrible pastiche, the sort of thing you’d see from the clone brands. Those geometric teal windows on the tower, I mean seriously? Will await hi res pics but I’m not holding my breath or looking to clear shelf space as it stands. Thankfully, Spring Lantern and Bonsai will keep me happy regardless. -

Ninjago Gardens and Ninjago City/Docs availability
Lucarex replied to koraldon's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
City was a masterpiece no doubt. But personally I found Docks lacking, and the modular aspect poorly executed (the more interesting sides of each set, front for City, rear for docks, didn’t align). I’m hoping Gardens addresses that. If it does, and is up there with City in terms of aesthetics and fun details, then it’ll fly off the shelves, and yeah we could be looking at more in the future. I doubt it’ll be annual though, every other year is more likely IMO. At least I hope so -

LEGO Hidden Side 2020

Looking forward to building the Castle over the holiday, once it’s unwrapped from under the Christmas tree, Although when I say building, it might be more overseeing and the occasional assistance if I’m lucky Both those you’ve pictured (Submarine and Dragster) are the cheapest entry level sets which are often discounted for sale especially when a theme is EOL. Normal stock clearance across multiple retailers. -

The general rule is if the image is in the public domain such as here (different to a retailer eyes only preview catalogue that they use to place orders in advance for example) then its fine to post. This catalogue will be in German toy shops for anyone to pick up. Also it’s not an image of an actual set anyway. -

A pre- release promotional illustration like this isn’t meant to be a literal representation of a set design.
