  1. And what a wave that was lest we forget...
  2. All seems very strange. Where did the the “cancelled” news come from exactly? Incidentally, the HS book I preordered last November (JB’s Guide to Ghost Hunting with minifig) has finally been given a release/delivery date of August 4th. Still no cover art so remains to be be seen if it actually exists and will be sent out next week or not. I’ll update once I know more.
  3. Sadly almost time to unfollow this topic then, especially if you lot are talking about Ninjago...
  4. Saw that a while ago just after we first saw the Castle set box art with a gigantic Maw as the boss ghost.
  5. And all for a little over 100€.
  6. Completely agree. The lack of “gimmick” or even cheap entry-level sets is a big minus for MK. I’d also add that BB themes typically also have a monthly print magazine. (That said, the forthcoming MK Brickheadz is a thing of beauty and will buy...assuming it’s the usual price not the same as the twin packs, you never know with MK!)
  7. As for best sets, my own personal preference would say: Wave 1 High School - purely for the transformative features Wave 1 Shrimp Shack - overall aesthetic, this almost had the feel of an Ideas set or MOC Wave 1 Shrimp Boat - just a fun great value set with superb minifigs Wave 2 Lighthouse - great choice of colour and improves on the Scooby Doo version, with haunted seaside aesthetic (which looks fantastic alongside the Ideas Old Fishing Store) Wave 3 Castle - yeah, what’s not to like? The observatory and new villain look great. Worthy of its MF Vampire Castle predecessor, a fantastic design and build (albeit not without flaws). Whilst it didn’t quite make my cut above, I really like the graveyard too, just wish they’d made it bigger or somehow easier to fit alongside the MF Zombies set.
  8. Well can’t say some of us didn’t call this at the start of the year. I finally picked up the High School for a steal recently, and now just waiting for the Castle to go on sale. You get the impression this was always on the cards for HS from day one. I’d even suggest a third wave was touch and go. As a certain Star Wars bounty hunter and his ilk are fond of saying “this is the way”. Likewise, it’ll be interesting to see how Monkie Kid fares outside of China when it goes on general release. It’s always sad when a creative in-house theme with great potential is EOL’d relatively early.
  9. Leatherhead was exactly the mold I was hoping they’d make Dr Drewell and Capt Archibald from, given budget constraints. It’d also cut down on ugly visible joints in transparent elements, not to mention allow ghost tails to be attached. Can’t remember the last time LEGO used a big torso on standard legs, other than Hagrid (not really the same proportions) or Axl (bulk is just armour/mech).
  10. Dragging this off topic a bit here aren’t we? I’m sorry but in the grand scheme of things, Dr Who really doesn’t register on the popular scale of things, remains very niched. Yes I know you’ll rail against the very notion of that, but it’s the cold hard truth. Still, there’s plenty of custom options out there if that floats your boat. As for the Art theme in general, the licensing alone for these iconic images explain the high price. God knows what Lego paid the Warhol estate here. At least they (probably) built in the Beatles rights as part of the Yellow Sub deal a few years ago. Personally, I think they’ll struggle for future subjects for this new theme. Balance has to be just right. Iron Man for example is a truly terrible choice. As for suggestions, Ali’s famous image of him standing over a KO’d Liston would be up there.
  11. Yeah I was one of many last year bemoaning the lack of bigfig boss ghosts. Such fantastic characters like Capt Archibald or Dr Drewell would have really elevated the whole theme. Not feeling any such vibes from the brick-built slenderman figure, and the Castle guy is only interesting for his new tail piece. Yet Monkie Kid gets Sandy right out of the block Asdie from that, has anyone seen discounts yet? I'm hoping like with wave 1 we'll see 20-30% off very soon.
  12. You could make a huge long list of licensed and inhouse stuff we haven't had since 2015. Why should Dr Who be any different?
  13. Why perfect? The relentless optimism of Whovian obsessives not satisfied with an Ideas set and a couple Dimensions packs. As for this Art theme, even though I'm right on the marketing demographic for this sort of thing, it just leaves me stone cold uninterested. It was an interesting concept when they had the personal photo mosaic makers at various flagship stores these past few years, but that's about it. These, at this price point are a very hard sell. So many better ways to spend Lego money.
  14. A Kraken would be amazing. As would a pier. I won't promote for obvious reasons but one of the clone brands has an extension Fishing Pier for the Ideas Old Fishing Store set. But it's not Lego and instead the the setup we have is HS lighthouse and shrimpboat adjacent to the OFS. It blends perfectly.
  15. With Tokyo 2020 postponed/cancelled, here we have the big shark Olympic 100m swim final. Who’s going to win the gold medal? On your marks, get set....
  16. So you felt every single bag? Nice for other buyers. Was the distribution map not accurate or something? Vikings are all front row.
  17. Just built the Huracan. Stickers aside (all 29 of them, insane!) it’s an enjoyable build and very easy on the eye. Any reasonably reliable rumours of upcoming SC sets and possible release timeline, or all complete guesswork right now?
  18. Maybe I’ll post a comparison pic when mine arrives but if it helps, the manta is 85mm across wingtips and 70mm nose to tail.
  19. Didn’t wait for the polybag as retail options are limited right now. Bought a couple from B&P as they’re very reasonably priced (less than 2€) along with the GWS and anglerfish. Same size or bigger compared with the old manta ray? If you have one...
  20. Thanks for the tip! That’s EXACTLY what it’ll be.
  21. A stand you say?! Well that definitely makes it a bargain! Sorry for the sarcasm, but your use of the b-word is bound to raise hackles, particularly when recent subpar CMF series have seen creeping price rises. Personally, I think they've crossed the sweet spot "impulse buy" price threshold and like has already been mentioned, its better value to buy small sets instead. That said, if they released minifigs of the quality of some of @Robert8 ideas (I really want that Nessie not a llama!), I'd happily pay a bit more.
  22. It's been replaced - for Father's Day - by the black/gold SC Lamborghini polybag that came as GWP with Top Gear magazine last month.
  23. It’s a lovely small set but one of the worst examples of TLG’s “regional exclusive” strategy, which thankfully has now been ended. Given the stupidly insane market price for a sealed boxed set, like many others I suspect, I BrickLinked mine (and got the name tile separately) for less than the original retail.
  24. Bit frustrating that the new Great White Shark isn’t yet showing as available.
