Not mine but as an example... https://ideas.lego.com/projects/7e52cf12-cf39-4f2f-85bc-0f8ca2c9c041

The next review's 35 submissions are an eclectic mix, but there's some absolute gems. The Bonsai Tree is gorgeous and the Starry Night canvas is inspired. The Gold Rush coaster would also be an instant buy for many priced (and spaced) out of the official Coaster, myself included. I have a feeling the latest Ratatouille creation may finally make it (a licensed version of the much-adored Parisian Restaurant modular), that and/or (my preference) Night at the Museum, which ticks a lot of boxes and interestingly features a mini-version of the just-now-approved Globe. There's a couple of "nice but meh seen it before" ideas in there as well also a few completely forgettable entries that are clearly more about flavour of the month popularity than actual builds. Not even sure what to make of the Bangladesh building, has no place on this list, smacks of a local social media campaign. Overall, 10k votes are easier to achieve in pandemic lockdown I guess.

LEGO Ninjago 2021
Lucarex replied to Driver Brandon Grumman's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Still trying to process the curious silhouette and two baseplate thing. Knowing that unredacted photo is out there (promobricks must have it), gaaah. Also the "more than 20 minifigures", which takes GONC way above the 16 figs in NC and up almost into Death Star territory. Really hope it's January release for VIP as rumoured. -
Didn't stop them making that comically awful Gru in the Minions set.
-
I note they did refer to the Globe's selection as partly due to new building techniques. Same as with the Grand Piano, so I'm not sure that's a fair criticism. I do agree on all the "supported" sets related to popular retro licensed TV stuff as driven by social media. For me, my last IDEAS set was the fabulous The Old Fishing Store, although I'm still constantly tempted by the Tree House. Along those lines, I'd like to see a split between licensed and non-licensed submissions. You have to wonder how many of those 10K were outside of the UK? It's not the most interesting build and Red Dwarf is more niched than Dr Who. Can't really see this being approved when Futurama's Express was rejected. Unless the BBC charge peanuts for the licensing.
-
I don't mean give specifics, just that "due to licensing" or "due to budget" or "due to internal existing development" or similar. Constructive or very basic explanation behind the rejection without inappropriate detail. Otherwise it gives rise to unhelpful speculation and no direction towards adaptation or possible resubmissions.

You forgot the Ship in Bottle. Couldn't agree more. Become the norm now though sadly. The Indy triptych was an exquisite submission, and its small display size and likely price point, would have seen it fly off the shelves. Elsehwere the Krusty Krab is the big disappointment here but unfortunately it shamed its official predecessor. The globe is a nice model I guess but I'm truly at a loss to explain the recent sets that made it through, like Sesame Street, Winnie the Pooh and most head scratching of all, Home Alone. Very questionable levels of nostalgia, especially for a Lego set. As for the review process itself, it's gotten to the point now where TLG should provide some comment publicly as to the cause of rejection, whether it be licensing or cost, whatever. If nothing else, that transparency would filter out invalid submissions and reduce what must be enormous frustration and disappointment on the part of those making the 10k club. They did say they want to evolve the IDEAS concept, so I think they should first start there. On the plus side, it's saving me money that goes towards other themes standout sets.

Thanks. Disappointing. Patience I know I know but this set requires advance planning, both budget and display space!

LEGO Monkie Kid 2020
Lucarex replied to Classic_Spaceman's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Built our first MK set at the weekend. Ok it was just the Monkey King Brickheadz but still! Is there really still not a legit official native English release of the webisodes yet? Not on Lego YT channel even. -
Been engrossed in work/family stuff since summer so a bit out of the loop. Saw the retailer catalog has leaked but have I missed any blurry pics of Ninjago City Gardens in the last 6 weeks or so?

Icons Landmark Buildings - Rumours and Discussion

So a massive and overpriced Lego Creator Expert set of an ancient once-feared sporting arena, synonymous with misery and suffering for thousands (since 2013), an “amphitheatre of screams” if you like, but now a sad dilapidated crumbling ruin that only attracts day-tripping tourists... You have to wonder...did they just copy the brief from Old Trafford?- 259 replies

There’s usually always something in the retailer catalogue. This was leaked a few days ago but nothing showing.

The Venice skyline includes St Mark’s basilica (a Catholic cathedral) so it’s not necessarily an exclusion criteria. There’s also the Taj Mahal if we’re talking large Creator Expert type sets. So it’s not unprecedented for TLG. Personally I think it’s a stupid policy given the scope of subjects it would open up...for example Notrè Dâme, La Sagrada Familia, Angkor Wat, Hagia Sophia (without Jabba ) all of which also very much qualify as “tourist attractions” that the theme has now become.

By way of an update, only the “Guide to Ghost Hunting” was cancelled in the end and Scholastic actually just published the second (activity book) of these titles, and it arrived yesterday. It’s basically another magazine (same length, very similar mix of puzzles and story sections, focus more on the former obviously). comes with Jack minifig, fairly standard red torso with cap backwards. The difference being is it includes content on this last wave of sets, with some new virtual ghosts plus nice artwork of Harbinger and the Maw. *edit* I’ll post pics later if anyone is still interested at this point! -
Where would they have got the image from though? If it wasn’t an inside TLG source, there’s no way it wouldn’t have leaked elsewhere by now.

Following the silhouette leak a few weeks ago, was kinda hoping to see even a grainy image of Ninjago City Gardens by now.

Actually inside it says there's a special issue coming on October 14th. -

Issue 9 (and very likely the last ever) of ash’s magazine just released today. Predictably boring minifigs of the usual pair, but interesting if only for the Secret History Of Lady E feature... -
This isn’t an Architecture theme anymore, and hasn’t been for some time. It should be renamed Tourist Attractions and LEGO sell a lot of these sets as souvenirs. So given how tourism has been affected in 2020, I’d say a slow year for new releases is to be expected.

LEGO Hidden Side 2020
Lucarex replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I’ve already posted there’s a “new” one just out but it’s really an old one from March/April, no content on the wave 3 sets. There’s also notably no info on “next issue” so looks like they’re done also. Yes Nexo mags did continue for a year after the theme was cancelled, but they also had a much bigger marketing push (4 seasons of full tv series, multiple merch like books and non-set toys) and sales than HS. I think “story” is stretching it -

HS is done, ended. You did see the Creator Haunted House recently released, right? -

Lucarex replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Sadly I think it's safe to assume that there'll be no new HS content. What's the point when unlike even Nexo (with full tv series of 4 seasons), the web shorts' only purpose was to advertise the sets, which we now know have ended. -

Lucarex replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
The fact they couldn’t get either book released in 9 months since announcement or 12 months since launch, kind of speaks how low priority HS was in terms of marketing. Shameful really. Also just to add the “latest” HS magazine has just been released here. It’s obviously just the one planned for April (before lockdown put publication on hold). Zero content around the new sets. There’ll be no more. This is it folks, will the last one out turn off the lights... -

Their response was odd as normally the official TLG line is usually strictly “neither confirm nor deny”. That’s even if they know in the first place, which is rare. Wouldn’t surprise me if that rep got themselves completely confused or mistaken. Happens all the time.
