But, do they taste better?

Ugh the Hearthstone Bakery. I was shocked that this didn't bring out every modular fan's vote and only got 6708 votes. What the heck. So disappointed. That's of my favorite MOC modulars.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
koalayummies replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
There was no reading comprehension error and it wasn't personal in any way. You were vociferating about the color consistency of pieces in a children's building toy stating that a counterfeiting company does plastic toy color consistency better. It was fully read and comprehended. Its a children's building toy. So the colors of various pieces don't have Mars Rover photographic color consistency; what a horror and a tragedy. Whenever one mentions a counterfeiting company that steals from everyone, including the very members on this forum, they might elicit a sardonic response. -
Absolutely fantastic work Bricked1980. I'm a purist but this is absolutely fine in my opinion (doesn't alter Lego pieces and isn't knockoff brand) and its amazingly well done. The detail, marking, textured pavement look and sizing are exceptional. Outstanding work, its really fun to look at and your photography is top notch.

Thanks. Yes, I did use a bunch of extra parts. Mostly more Brick Yellow pieces for the upper floors and the grey pieces that make up the roof edge facade along with the obvious parts that aren't included in the set. There were also some leftovers from like the arch pieces for the side windows that weren't used which I tried to incorporate as the build for those windows was brilliant. I get the concern about the access to the upper floors and the original Diner has it done well for a modular (unlike Parisian Restaurant or Assembly Square for example where they have to walk through other businesses to get to the upper floors). If I ever had them in a layout I'd be more inclined to address the access issue but as they're displayed on shelves its not as much a concern, they can just walk right around the side of the building. Getting to the other shelves is a bit of a challenge though. Thanks Alsielou! Thanks LegoModularFan. Yeah I know a bunch are very fond of the jukebox design in the facade and part of me did want to keep it. Now that this one is done how I wanted to I may go ahead and incorporate that part again but in the center in keeping with this build. Thanks Bricked1980! Yeah I don't know how you've been waiting on building it, the urge is just too much. I think you're going to love the Diner, it quickly went from not being sure about it to one of my favorites even before modding it. Thanks LegoSjaak. I may get around to posting up the build on the car but as a forewarning it was a bit of compromise on construction as pink is a rarity in my parts bins so I'm not sure how many other modular/city fans have enough pink laying around either.

I say "Legos" three times in a row every time someone says: "bley" "light bley" "dark bley" "bluish grey" "tan" "dark tan" or any other incorrect color name picked up from Bricklink.

Says the member with a City Police minifigure as their avatar. MOD them out on your sets, very easy. Kids want playability. Lego is for kids. You can change what you don't like about a set, its Lego. But Lego will do what research shows the kids want. Just change your sets to your liking. Between Town and World City, Lego System carried the Town/City content for that period. This is the same old repetitious "back in my day everything was better" nostalgia-desire-based post made multiple times a week. Same as "bring back classic space, classic pirates, classic castle, indeed everything as I remember when I was a kid" [despite the fact that many of those sets you speak of are all very mediocre compared to what is offered today, 4-wide cars?]. Never. And police will never go away. "The most popular classic Lego set in history. The police station is the flagship set of Lego City, the company's original playset." Much of this is just semantics. Town, City, World City... whats the difference, its the same theme. Call it Metropolis, Urban Land, Large Minifigure Settlement, Municipality-Ville, Megalopolis; its still going to be buildings and vehicles, police and fire. New parts are added to City all the time, they don't need to kill a theme or change the name to incorporate new parts.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
koalayummies replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Oh my goodness! You mean to tell us the colors of the pieces in this children's toy aren't photo-laboratory perfect?! What a hot new flash! You go do that counterfeit stuff but don't complain around here when you're diagnosed with lead poisoning and unintentionally changing genders from exposure to high quantities of Bisphenol-A. -
If you only like licensed themes then this is the time to be a fan because licensed Lego product is ever expanding. And if you feel guilty about not using Lego after its built but enjoy the process of building you could sell the set once you're done with it and get something else or design and build digitally for free or start getting into MOCs by taking apart what you have and making your own stuff which will then spiral into a never ending obsession of constant designing and continuous building.

Thanks. Yeah I know some people like them; Elvis, Springsteen, various elderly people . Anyway the changes include lengthening the body by 1 stud both fore and aft, full fenders (the laquer/metallic colored ones would work better but I ran out), making the body taller by 1 plate, changing the SNOT connection of the front grill and rear bumper from the angle plate 21731 (which leaves a gap) to regular SNOT bricks and the 2x2x2/3 plate w.hor knobs (99206) and various connection changes inside like getting rid of loathsome part# 11215. Oh and obviously adding a roof and windows. I suppose I could LDD a file for it but I've got a running list of brick to LDD conversions thats getting very long. Feel free to copy what you can from the pictures though. I can certainly take more pictures though thats easy enough.

Eurobricks has a built-in image resizer. While typing in the reply box link the image like your normally would via "insert other media" and once the image is displayed in your reply box double click on the picture and a pop-up window will appear where you can resize the image right on Eurobricks (any image from any site). For example resizing this image of the Diner from the Lego shop@home site to 50 pixels:

Another modular, another mod! Modification objectives: Make the building symmetrical Enlarge the Diner for more seating while keeping with the symmetrical theme Add more depth to the upper levels with offset floor plans I also wanted to restrict the more showy art deco elements to the first floor diner by eliminating the jukebox style facade on the upper levels. Also modified the car to make it more true to the huge boat-like classic Cadillacs that its inspired by. More depth in the upper levels: Back: First floor Diner with more seating: There's a slightly larger gap between the wall and grill hood due to centering it in relation to the building: Interior of the upper floors is about the same with a few minor detail additions like cups for the water dispenser, more free weights, a record player and tiled screening room: Also modified the car. These classic Caddys are huge, like boats and hideous so had to make it huge, boat-like and more ugly. Its arch nemesis is parallel parking:

OP said the child has a compromised immune system from the treatment so that rules out 2nd hand Lego and Pick A Brick walls (since many random hands are stuck into the bins). Pick A Brick [PAB] on the Shop @ Home site is a good option but the orders are hand-picked by Lego employees so that might be the same concern as above (same with the Bricks and Pieces [B&P] service and Bricklink). The Lego services take a couple weeks to get the order and its also hard to recommend specific bricks to get as there's something like 7000 different piece/color combinations available/in production at any given time. Ordering lots of bricks can be daunting even to someone who's familiar with the service and has a specific list of needed parts for a specific design but for someone inexperienced and with no specific desired list to order hundreds of different parts I think makes this option is a bit unfeasible. I order bricks all the time but its usually for a specific creation and even being familiar with the selection system its still rather tedious. So with the stated budget, the kid's fondness of City/Town, the complexities of ordering random bricks and the immune system concern I would get him a whole bunch of Creator and City sets. While you can certainly get a nice pile of bricks for a decent price with PAB/B&P, the large Creator sets have among the best price per piece of all Lego so you could get the most Lego for him with the stated budget and I'm guessing the kid builds above his age level (he has two sets in the picture that are) so I wouldn't worry about the suggested ages on the boxes. Get him some of the Creator Expert modular buildings ($0.06-0.08 per piece is about as good as it gets), a bunch of the minifigure-scaled Creator sets and a bunch of regular City sets. With that budget you can get him a pretty large amount of Lego that will keep him happy, building and playing. Given the immune system concerns, the budget and theme that he likes that is what I would suggest. The trip to Lego HQ will be one heck of an experience. If I was in his shoes I probably would want the same thing. I hope he gets well.

We think alike. I've been planning a few MOC brickheadz of some of the more iconic characters from the CMF line and have started a few designs. Brickheadz almost have to use a character with some sort of outlandish, instantly recognizable or uncommon feature and many a CMF fall into that category.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 18 Rumors and Discussion
koalayummies replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
True, it is pretty 'meh' and seemingly for the collectors. Like the 60th anniversary House, Windmill and Truck only not as poorly priced. Yeah and that figure is way less appealing so the aftermarket around that makes even less sense. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 18 Rumors and Discussion

Called it. One per box was a terrible idea Lego. -
That's a decent option but its still an atypical vehicle. There are a lot of Lego fans who have a plethora of Speed Champions in their City layouts but its a bit comical when the majority of vehicles are either garbage trucks and street sweepers or $100,000+ exotic sports cars. Are all the residents hedge fund managers or does the town perpetually host a ponzi scheme convention? I agree with this: Time to MOC some soccer moms and hand-me-down cars.

Slope piece is still used for minifigure dresses...?
koalayummies replied to MattedBricks's topic in General LEGO Discussion
A new mold costs what, five to six figures to make? And it took how long just to get a better purpose made piece for a fairly widely used minifigure part? I'm just happy that we finally have a new piece in which torsos won't fall off of at the slightest bump. In the off chance that sitting, running or action is needed to be momentarily simulated that can be done with various other bricks, the arms flailing and or facial expression. Plus wouldn't most people wearing a dress that touches the floor like this and needing to run lift the dress off the ground in order to do so effectively? We should see some yellow Lego legs sticking out and a bunched up dress in that case. You might be waiting another 20-30 years for that one. Again I'm just happy we got something that is better than what was being used before.- 42 replies

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
koalayummies replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
So if the modulars are now 170 each then a 16 wide would be around 85. Lego could also bring back the 8x32 plate 4187 and make some 1/4 modulars for 40 each. Just playing along with the idea, 8-wide is super limiting considering doors take up half the width -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
koalayummies replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I don't know, I'm not confident Lego would approve of an Ideas submission that is part of an existing Lego theme even if the theme isn't explicitly mentioned anywhere on the submission page. There are a lot of submissions that fall into this territory many of which are built to the same standards Lego uses in the applicable themes: Architecture, Brickheadz, City vehicles/Speed Champions, Creator scale model cars, Modulars, Star Wars. There are some absolutely amazing MOC Modulars on ideas, many of which I was surprised didn't even reach 10K supporters given the fanfare with the theme but I think The Old Fishing Store is about as close to City/Town/Modular proximity that Ideas will ever approve. Ideas seems more geared towards and approving of one-off builds and themes like Shinkai Submarine, Mars Rover, Ship in Bottle, Maze, Yellow Submarine or (and increasingly) new license acquisitions in which they can bank off of the applicable fan base and draw in fans of said license to Lego products (Minecraft, Ghostbusters, Big Bang, Adventure Time) as a sort of gateway-purchase or other than regular-Lego-consumer sales. That modular Arcade/Pizzeria is fantastic though. Supported, guess we'll see. -
This sort of feeling and mentioning of seeing that DD is still in-stock, personal perceived low demand and not sold out type of anecdotal stuff isn't evidence of anything. These things are expensive and many of the fans know they have shelf lives of several years. One person's momentary observations aren't exactly scientific. Unless TLG does what they normally don't do and release annual sales figures for individual sets then you can certainly continue to say that you don't think its selling well, that it looks like its in lower demand than previous releases or that it would have been better if they did something else but it is not evidence of anything. Maybe Lego has improved their production ramp-up, supply and distribution based on past sales data and is thus able to keep them in-stock. On the flip side of this anecdotal DD-negativity stuff; a number of members have recently joined the modular discussions for the first time because of DD, specifically stated DD as the reason and its been their first modular and entry into this theme. Here is a tutorial on how to make a poll. As per Fred67's point, bolded the ones owned: PR > GE > TH > DD > GG > PS > DO > FB > BB > AS > PC > CC > MS. Just based on the perceived quality of each dollhouse so no owned-only bias and also no plans to get the retired ones as I'm not a bank-robber.

I have begun my journey to further sort and store. From a combination of large bins and partially sorted boxes: Beginning the process: About 1/8th complete: Speculating now that there will still be some box or bin usage even when all done.
