[MOC] Taking Back the Marianne (Microships!)
koalayummies replied to koalayummies's topic in Pirate MOCs
The length of the bottle is fine even for the longest ship. When I say make the bottle bigger I mean increasing the volume irrespective of the length (so basically a 'fatter' bottle). The original ideas submission is 6-studs wide on each 'wall' of the bottle between the curved trans-clear wall pieces which allowed for a larger ship (in addition to the bottle being tilted). The official set is 4-studs between the curve pieces and set flat on the display. So to fit these taller ships you'd need to increase the girth of the bottle to be more in line with the original submission and probably also tilt it. At least one other member has enlarged their bottle like this but the unfortunate outcome is that it renders the bottle a bit unrealistic and out of scale to the average bottle that the typical ships in bottles would typically be made in. That's why Lego went with a more realistically scaled bottle for the overall ship in a bottle display piece as opposed to focusing on a more detailed ship and scaling a bottle around it. And in order to tilt the bottle you would not only have to modify the stand but also come up with a way to mount the ship inside while still maintaining the glass bottle look unless you're alright with having the ship loose. Chopping a gun deck and lowering the visible hull height would certainly be the easiest way to go and the set comes with studs for 'water' so it that would work quite well aesthetically. -
[MOC] Taking Back the Marianne (Microships!)

Its a great set even with the really tiny ship. The Ship in a Bottle was one of two similarly timed sets that made me want to make my own tiny ships. That said I can understand some not loving the ship build but its still a very fun build and makes awesome use of SNOT. The only ship from this group that would fit in the bottle would be the little brig if you removed the flag and the 1x1 round plate at the top of the foremast. If you tilted the bottle on its edge you could probably fit it with the flag. The other two ships won't fit without making the bottle bigger in addition to probably needing to tilt the bottle (like it was in the Ideas submission) or shortening the masts or hull (could make it look like it was heavily loaded with cargo). If you want I can try fitting the brig in the bottle and taking some pictures this weekend. Thanks Captain Genaro. Had to workaround dealing with only 32x32 baseplates and very limited pieces to make up water. Thanks! Thanks Maxim I! Thanks LegoModularFan! Thanks Sander1992! -

Hah thanks. These facial expressions are among the best Lego has done so far and will be quite useful in MOCs. Good luck with the search! -

Of course! But you have to take the picture (because I don't have a panda figure ). -

A series of monochrome figures! And unlike the evil, evil corporate man part of me they could vary the hair and accessories so you could feel out which ones are which. -

This thread needs more picture-fun because I'm obsessed with this series! She was super excited to find flowers that perfectly match her costume, like color-checker-chart perfect. Stop building on me, that's inappropriate! Continuing with @AmperZand and @K_Tiger 's utilizing the costume head mouths. The orca head from the Batman series works well too; swapping heads makes the dragon more dragon-y and the orca less creepy. Really wild west! And you won't believe! @Digger of Bricks showed up to the costume party and a good time was had by all. Look at that smile! -
Yes Akro Mils. No issues, arrived in their own perfect-fit box with no damage.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
koalayummies replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Very true; Tribal Chief, Kimono girl, Maraca Man/Mariachi, Pharaoh/Egyptian Queen, Bagpiper, Lederhosen Guy/Pretzel Girl all fit that category along with several others. And yet out of all the CMF the most controversial still seem to be the evil dwarf (among non-Lego fans) and Mr. Gold (among Lego fans). -
Good info. I didn't know the red-brick guy's hair was new, might need to grab one more of him. Is it a new mold or just a new color for that piece like the blue brick girl? As always amazing information. This thread is very much appreciated. I always like making sure figures in MOCs have a nice variety of hair and colors as is possible.

Absolutely incredible. The architecture is wonderful and that second floor interior is just amazing. The recovery/intensive care, surgery room, all so realistic. The slope brick as the leg cast , perfect. Who's the poor guy on the ventilator . I hope they all get better soon. Fantastic MOC, another Jalemac build for the record books.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 18 Rumors and Discussion

Someone said 'furries' and almost ruined costumed minifigures for me. But then I looked at elephant girl and thought... maybe I could be in to that. Remember that amazing line from Aliens: "They're mostly costumed minifigures, mostly". -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
koalayummies replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
That isn't what was said, but I think you know that. The hypothetical girl asked about all Legos (sic), nothing restricting the theme to just minifigures. To say those things aren't representative of that specific religion's holiday (the old 'its originally pagan' argument) is to ignore their modern usage. It would be like saying swastikas aren't representative of nazis because they're originally from the Asian continent. It is ignoring how those things have been used and are still in use in recent history and their perception among all people. How are those things; Santa, mistletoe, decorated pine trees, used today? To represent Christmas and nothing else. Just ask the little Hindi/Islamist/Taoist/Jewish/Buddhist girl what they see Santa, gingerbread people/houses and nutcrackers as representing and whether they see any representations of their holidays present. Plainly said Lego should be careful with the holiday double-standard as they continue to grow in specific markets. Or more simply; I agree with @gedren_y. -

Friends Mia's Tree House? Looks like one of those recent parts that doesn't yet show up in the brickset set-inventory. -

Exactly! It'll be the 50th anniversary and they can do a limited random distribution of 500 total so its worse than Mr Gold. To make it even more interesting make the anniversary one all-gold along with red, blue, white, yellow and black classic space figures containing identical pieces so no one knows until they open them. Brilliant marketing. -

Agreed. And Lego should really think hard about this as they continue to branch out to new Asian markets. Little Hindi/Islamic/Taoist/Jewish/Buddhist etc. girl to father: "Daddy, how come there are no Legos (sic) of our holidays?" -

Oh yeah for an all space theme they could wait around until the anniversary of the classic space guy and then put one per box again that'd be freaking awesome. -
Wonderful layout. Clicking on the additional pictures was a must. Love the building but is it haunted? Theres' a spooky ghost flying around. Great build, especially the ship with the very smooth looking masts and yards.

Beautiful ship and very dark. It looks hefty and strong. Sure to instill fear in many a sailor. Fantastic work!

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
koalayummies replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Where in official imagery is that? Is that the story you've given it? Because the girl is holding the magnifying glass to her face looking at the light pole, not killing small organisms . On the back of the box she's looking at the flower planter next to the custodian. This always comes up but the age of a building or its style has little to do with the current year or era (except for very modern architecture). There are some very old buildings still standing and in use in 2018. No one stands outside Independence Hall or the Parthenon and says "oh it must be 1776" or "460 BCE" respectively. One can park an old Cadillac outside a retro diner or Grauman's Chinese Theater but that doesn't mean its suddenly 1950. -
Review: 5005358 Minifigure Factory
koalayummies replied to mostlytechnic's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Top notch review! Funny I didn't notice the pictures on the back with the laughter at the guy getting paint-splattered (or that the card covers them up) nor did I notice that the Pixal doesn't fully show in the window (though I didn't even know who she was prior to this promo's announcement ). And agree about mr gold being a weird choice to feature in the timeline, many characters could have filled a spot on the timeline better. Great review. This is one of my favorite promo freebies ever.- 20 replies

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 18 Rumors and Discussion
koalayummies replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Yeah yeah, happy birthday, or anniversary. Now why is there only one of you per box!? And the last of 'utilizing the new faces': The sound of his own voice: "Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, uhhhh this is your captain speaking from the tarmac, uhhhhh, it appears our plane doesn't work so we'll have to walk back to the terminal, uhhhh with the current headwind we're looking at about a nine-and-a-half-minute walk, uhhh and if you look out the left side of the tarmac you'll see other travelers going about their trips without incident uhhhh...." The creepy flirtatious bartender: "Hey baby, how 'bout I pour you a special drink?" :wink wink: Something else explosive: "Yeah, I don't want to use that bathroom!" -
Sorted by color finally finished!
koalayummies replied to Truckingyoda's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Agreed. I discovered after putting all classic grey together that its such a pain looking for 1x3s yet constantly picking up 1x2s or 1x4s. Found it much faster to sort by part type/size and putting all the colors of the same part type together because picking out color is easy. But now that OP has done color might as well go to type as well and reach the holy grail of sorting; the full separation of part type and color. You'll probably need a few thousand of those little drawers. -
