What would that be, PR/DO/BB/DD size? -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
paupadros replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I did a small pharmacy for my latest models. Certainly not an interior that works for a big space, but a small wooden counter and hundreds of bottles around it might look fine. Waht funny interior combos could they do? Like Bank/Laundromat or Cake Shop/Dentist? I've just realised that 2019 is Landmark year following the 2013-2016-2019 trend, but since the Taj Mahal was rereleased, I'm not so sure about it. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I honestly prefer their current style. Shorter but overall more rounded and finer designs (most the times). I've tried with my own modular MOCs, a building similar in size to GG with full interiors/easter eggs and all that sort of thing goes to about 3500-4000 pieces. The Diner was already made a very skinny modular (I have no problem in that at all) for it not to have a huge piece count. According to the trend, this year is "corner year", interested in how they'll make it good without it being too part heavy. -
Love it! To me looks like an improved version of your last model, the Minerals Shop. It has a similar structure, but almost everything is a tad better. Yellow is just awesome, I too (two years ago) was looking at the Lego palette and thought: "Why haven't they done a yellow building?", I've two now, but yours is entirely different from my takes. The detailing in tan makes me think you took some inspiration from Paris, then sprinkled Lego madness everywhere. The interiors are nice too. I love the post office's counter and especially the sign so good! Now I see you've totally transitioned to making buildings in this new style, looking forward to your future experiments. Oh, I love the wrought iron fence on the first floor balcony and the 1x1 plates with clips as columns! Just wondering, why did you use two different render engines? I believe the first image is done with Pov-Ray and the other four with Blender

You could build a building similar to one of the halves in the Pet Shop. My recommendation with a small footprint would be to know exactly what you're aiming for, choose a building with personality and try to recreate it. San Francisco townhouses could work brilliantly, or look at central european houses (Berlin, Prague...), those can be brilliant, or maybe something from Amsterdam, ideal for a 16x32. I would really recommend choosing something that has a prominent architectural feature, eg. a special curve on the top floor and remember, the top floor defines the look of the building, work very hard on it! Just thought of it, you could have smaller buildings (even as small as 6-wide) with windows (similar to my Klee Corner) Really nice popular architecture that's properly good in this great account: https://www.flickr.com/photos/arnimschulz/albums

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
paupadros replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Indeed. I would add that it's so technically ambitious and glorious that it might just take the charm off the other "European" modulars you're mentioning. Note though, that DO to me has a much more American feel and is still very charming. -

Certainly very good in terms of techniques, them covering the floor gaps for the first time is something pretty amazing, but... architecturally speaking I just find it boring. -

I like for them to experiment, but DD is just an absurd mess. Mike I think just didn't know how to pull off an interesting façade with nooks and crannies to fill with life. DD to me feels a bit stale. -
Nice model. There's some things I would change to improve it a little, for instance, the blue roof's corner should be more prominent, it should look like it's the main thing calling for attention. The windowing is a bit strange, but cool. I think you got the colours and the details mostly right, now only the shape could be a little bit better The black roof's technique is awesome!

The front is bananas! Absolutely love it! Great job!

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

That would be pretty great, actually. A pair of new scissors for Mr. Al! For a record store, though, they could to mini brick-built recreations of real life albums and let us guess which they are, so it could have very interesting furniture. -
I personally have my modular collection on shelves. The last I've bought is Parisian Restaurant exactly for what @Bricked1980's said, didn't want to miss it before they retire it. Having siad that, the build feels a bit dated now and there's countless things they just wouldn't do right now. It's still marvellous to look at having it sitting next to DO is pretty cool. You know, PR's right opening and DO's shorter left building form a pretty nice architectural landscape. I don't own AS, but it's the one I've wanted since it came out, I'm dying to get my hands on it. To my eyes is the most complete modular, although at a cost. Honestly, my first one was DO and I'd totally recommend that one as a starter, but really it doesn't really matter which you choose because you'll just have to expand . I would say either Parisian Restaurant, Detective's Office or Assembly Square. Brick Bank and Downtown Diner, maybe for later Hope it helps

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I'm always interested when someone says "Spanish Architecture". I am technically spanish and don't have a clear idea of a typical building (unlike Italy, for instance). DD opened up an old idea which I thought had been abandoned: one huge single business ground floor. If designed by Mike, my bet's on a Vinyl Store. I bet that would be bloody awesome. About architecture itself (the main draw for me to a building, obviously), I just like being surprised. I only hope they use yellow or orange as main façade colours as it can work pretty brilliantly (ASIT) -
Just a couple doubts about this set. Hope you'll help! Jang said the bridge had some tension on the bricks that might be an issue. What do you think? And about the set overall. I saw it on both Lego shops in Hamburg and Berlin and just found it small. It didn't give me the sensation of grandness at all. Maybe because it was behind a glass box, hey could be that, but I felt like I was looking at a 2000 piece set. Assembly Square (on display close to it) felt so much bigger in comparison. Maybe it's the rockface which makes it not look as imponent as it should. Plus, I'm really really missing water around it, at least on the façade side. It just doesn't do it for me. I really like the angling they've achieved and prefer it with the interiorwork done. I see it as Disney Castle's smaller and more sophisticated companion. No clue at all, unless it has to do with giving us some of the new 1x1 bracket pieces, I don't know what it could be. Another thing that bugs me is that they did two amazing new moulds for the arches: a centre and a corner one, but not one with a single half a stud protrusion to cap off nicely a row of arches without the need to turn the corner. This same picture shows what Justin had to do due to this missing piece. I mean, it's a bit stupid of an omission. That said I won't be buying the set, as big of a Potter fan I am but I really enjoyed reading through the review. Somehow, it doesn't feel particularly magical to me. Pau PD: I agree, add-ons like the quidditch field would be great

Really beautiful! I really like the triangle on the façade, the part "held up" by white pillars. The tower looks marvellous as well, especially from the white section to the top.

Bang on! Thanks a lot, that's the one. I had no idea it was yours. I was in a train store in Berlin and I saw an H0 scale model which suddenly reminded of your model (without knowing it was yours, obviously !). I saw it and I instantly thought it would be a super interesting layout for a modular. Then remembered it has already been done. Anyway, maybe in the future I'll try to give it my own spin. Thanks @cimddwc

That's super awesome! And I thought I was the only one who'd gone bananas! It reminds me of a Gehry building in Las Vegas Yes. Each of the "cloud" sections had a white lining and a different colour, one was tan I don't remember the others but they was mostly quite muted.

Hi guys! Very nice stuff on this forum for the last couple weeks. I remember seeing a modular some time ago which looked something like this (below) but I can't remember where I saw it or who it was by. Do any of you guys know? Thanks!

Efteling! Really nice! You've mentioned it yourself, but the peaks are just fabulously angled and twisted. I'm seriously impressed how beautifully well covered up are what might be some proposterously ugly gaps. I'm also digging the level beheath the whole brown section; really adds a whole sense of queuing for a theme park (yikes! Makes me want to go to one !). PD: Rendered in Blender?

Very unusual building. At first I was a bit doubtful but I think you can make it work very nicely in your layout. The first thing it reminded me is of U2's Popmart tour. Flamboyant, really different from all their other stuff but brilliant! It's wonderful; I especially like the colour strips between the floors, they really make it pop.

Good model! Both the building on the left and the middle one work almost seamlessly together. While the roof of the middle building is really beautiful, the one on the left seems to have still room for improvement. I really really like the entranceway for the middle tan building, supremely elegant and beautiful The building on the right seems a bit stitched up there but while I prefer the other two, I've seen many buildings like that one on coast towns around the Mediterranean. If you do something else of Mediterranean inspiration, you could try to recreate those smaller one floor most the times squarish houses that often have tall garden walls next to them (something like this, btw this is my hometown ). Other than that, the build is very solid, nicely coloured and brilliantly brought to life. One last thing, who needs interiors when you can have curtain covering the windows!

[MOC] Art Nouveau Modular Corner Building
paupadros replied to Giacinto Consiglio's topic in LEGO Town
I'm sorry if I made you angry. I'm very aware of the types of Art Nouveau, like some of it, dislike some of it. I find history interesting and think it's totally unnecessary to have a huge knowledge about architecture. I love mix-matching architecture; I don't know if what I'm building is Art Nouveau or not. I love being shown stuff and showing stuff; I think I have a pretty open mind about things. I both like interpreting buildings and creating my own ideas through bricks. Anyway, I like your build and I wish you like mine too, whether we prefer a scholar approach or a freestyle approach (or my favourite, a mix), we all love modulars and that's what we're here for, really.- 29 replies

Today scrolling up my iPad's photo gallery I fond this sketch I drew with Bamboo Paper. Certainly the proportions are waaaaaaay off, but I didn't remember having it practically finished by March 3rd for this sketch to be made. Look What I Found! by Pau Padrós, en Flickr I'd better stick to renders or real life drawing, the lines on this are as terrible as it can get...
