  1. I know you meant Lepin, but that just made me laugh! I really hope they don't go with Tan nor Medium Nougat again, we've seen too much and they differ too little. Blue is surprisingly a colour very widely used in Modulars; MS, PS, DO, AS and Sand Green got to be the star to two sets in a row BB & AS. I maintain my bet at yellow or orange as interesting colours to build buildings from. I don't know if many other builders have encountered this, but I am running into big trouble trying to come up with unique colour schemes, different from the usual base colour+window colour. I've found white, flame yellow and teal to work brilliantly together, as well as white, flame yellow and dark blue.
  2. I would call myself quite an expert at Catalan Modernism and I would have to agree to a point. This shares some interesting aspects with Casa Batlló, the mosaic for instance, but has shapes typical of classier architecture on the middle and top floors. Another important fact, not all modernism is Gaudí; in fact, La Pedrera was not considered so when finished (as well as mocked for looking like a crumbled castle). Gaudí is the oddest sort of Catalan modernism. Others such as Puig i Cadafalch or Domènech i Montaner used brickwork extensively but Gaudí preferred ceramics and pure stonework. This choice is clearly a preference for neo-Gothic architecture rather than Industrial one. Some of his works have practically none of his signature style such as the Episcopal Palace of Astorga or la Casa Botines in León. Not everything Gaudí built is a masterpiece but he has many more sparks of genius in his buildings than others. Gaudí's architecture goes beyond façades, all of it is complicated, distorted, blurred and overall great. The older he became, the less important Modernism was and the less backing he had. He went from the trendiest architect to a detestable being who was not even recongised when he was crushed by a tram. The aloner he felt, the wilder his architecture. Plus, in his seventies, the once free democracy (well, not really Spain's always had biased elections) became a dictatorship. The harder everything was for him, the purer his architecture became. Therefore, sprinkling some Gaudí magic above is nice, but a real understanding of his style and work is always beneficial. The more you know, the better! Just wondering, have you ever been to Barcelona? When you see one of his beauties around the corner, it's hard not to fall on one's knees. And Barcelona's Eixample, the 19th century expansion of the city, is full of buildings which can rival Gaudí, some of them utterly stunners, like Casa Comalat, by a very unknown architect called Salvador Valeri (I've never met anyone who knows him nor his most famous house very well. Casa Comalat has two façades, one extremely outlandish (the back one) and another one a bit faiytalish. It's very unknown and my favourite house. From Gaudí, a really great one is Casa Vicens. If you like Art Nouveau (especially the one from Barcelona and surroundings, this man's Flickr is for you. Endless inspiration. PD: I've just realised you've put chicken on the roof!
  3. That would be such a win. I've aleady made two modulars in shades of yellow as main colour schemes and they never ever get tiring. I would also be interested in them trying something different for the walls. Instead of the usual two-wide wall-window, what if they did a whole façade windowed? Plus, as in the model @LegoModularFan's posted here, they could experiment a lot more in the ground levels, like for my own Klee Corner. Amen! With DD, Mike opened up many interesting ideas, like covering up floor separation gaps forever more and many controversial ones like changing the minifigs. Those are things Jamie would've probably never thought of, which is good, but I agree, Mike just seems uninterested in the modulars. He took a very special concept a puked something just decent on top of it. In a recent interview, Jamie answered the would love to come back to modulars, just like he'd done in 2014 with PR, fresh as ever. I bet this won't be the year, as Mike seems to be tasked all the major Creator Expert sets these days, but it could very easily be in the future (the previous Jamie hiatus was of two models before too). Marcos would be a brilliant option too. I remember being wordless looking at his Villa Maison some years ago. Plus, he knows how to make a hell of a model. The problem is he's lead on Brickheadz and has always been more linked to licensed themes. I believe the next modular with be made by Mike and that (following the pattern) will be a corner. My bet is they won't follow the classic corner format. All CC, GE, PC and BB have a squarish footprint. I would really like them expermenting with diagonal façades, façades going forwards, covering others... Wishful thinking
  4. Not sure. Haven't finished building yet and won't be able to in a little while. Concept-wise, it's pretty set and I like it a lot. Have been trying stupidly complex shapes and colour schemes; I hope it'll pay off as a super nice modular; although definitely not in the immediate future.
  5. Thanks! They're all entirely LDD; you know, there I'm allowed to cheat as much as I want in terms of colour choices As for your second build, I think I might've found the murderer... At first I thought it was a suicide for the shape of the body the white line draws. But then I looked around the body... The guy in the blue hat and the suitcase seems to have a white 1x1 tile on his feet... Just like on the crime scene... I think it's him
  6. I'm seriously impressed. It's one of those builds it's utterly pointless to start pinpointing all that I loke about it; it's absolutely badass flawless. My kind of buildings are more towards the traditional modulars; cleaner, sleeker, but a great build can be appreciated by anyone. This has both sides of the coin too, the odd bizarre craziness over a perfect coat of neat architecture and nicely proportined buildings. Looking forwars to your Venice build, now following on Flickr
  7. At first glance, it seeemed like your Barroque Cathedral turned into a modular. There's many details to love here: Black+gold looks gorgeous ! The large windows, the skylights, the tower and particularly, the roofline . But something, somehow doesn't quite add up to the overall effect. I'm also running into big trouble trying to find new colour combinations that work decently and have been banging my head against a brick wall for a long time. This mosaic is nice, not very Gaudí-ish and it doesn't quite match with what's around it. This looks nice but not in the same kind of nice as your other modulars. Maybe it'll grow on me with time. But not everything's negative! The interiors are very creative and I really really like your "turn everything to gold machine o' doom!". Made me laugh so much! PS: How did you render it?
  8. Very nice model! The red/sand green building drew a big smile on my face, as I'm also building in that combo (not exactly in your way, windows and wall each a colours, though ). The layout is fabulous as well, a shorter building poking out a lot more is still on my "to do" list. I'm seriously astonished your blue building is just 8 studs wide. Never had I ever seen so much detail and character in such a tiny space. Plus, Dumbledore's beard as decoration... How awesome's that!? Super model, I love it!
  9. Knowing Mike is in charge of most Creator Expert sets, this is not at all unlikely. For me it's always exterior, and if it's nice, really don't care what's inside. Although, as in DD, the contents of the interior kind of compulsory required an exterior to match it. I've recently been experimenting with odder shapes in modulars. I would really like them to tackle windowed sections and curves, although they are VERY complicated to add to a regular modular. Seeing what Mike did with DD, cover the gaps between the floors, I feel the evident gaps are long gone and banished forever from Modular Land. I would really like to see tilting façades and so on, but it would collide with the rule of repeatable and continuously stackable floors. If Mike does the modular, we can expect something American, my bet, something Brutalist
  10. Telephone on the door too . As with Downtown Diner, in real pictures it is so much better.
  11. Very beautiful! I saw on your Instagram you were trying to make the whole dome work, so congrats, it looks fabulous. Other than the dome, I'd like to really congratulate you for the whole layout. The three ovoid apses, plus the whole nave and the Beniniesque columnade look outstanding. On the front façade I really like how the front window is not entirely round, it forms a sort of an egg, plus the interior is very nice as well. The only thing I would say, is the front fountain is not huge enough!
  12. Huh, it got almost no attention. Hope your endeavours will go better than mine
  13. Congrats again! I would agree with the Portuguese blog, it will be difficult to get to 10K, but if you get there, you have quite a good chance at being chosen. The box image looks AMAZING, but it's very likely you'll run into trouble. The sunset one would work just as well, I'd say. As for promoting, on Twitter, it's hard. Ask for retweets to related bigger accounts; back when I had an Ideas account, I asked Casa Batlló's account to retweet, and they did! . I haven't seen your post on Reddit. I think it's related to the content you've created, the more you post, the easier it is to be seen. Would you like me to post it as a "SEC", "Someone Else's Creation"?. You could contact FlagsNZ on Brickset too as he does his Ideas Shocases or contact Huw himself for a showcase of your project, just like they did for Anatomini.
  14. Congrats for the articles. Those would be a "first" for me . The new black and white picture looks very cool indeed. I'm starting to wonder what you're planning to do to get more votes
  15. Nice stuff here the last couple days! First, @LegoModularFan, congrats on 30.000 views! As for architecture, aka what we're her for, this one @Frostbricks has posted looks super. It has that "palazzo" feel, and feels quirky and interesting even being monochrome. I really like the use of the 4x4 turntables as decor and the eggs as cherry-toppers (something I'd only see myself do !)
  16. Pricevortex says it's going to be called "10262 James Bond Aston Martin DB5" https://www.pricevortex.com/ And click Creator Expert
  17. A pretty strange subject matter that translates well to Lego form. Again, the roofs are probably the best, did you build the rest to match them?
  18. A Creator Expert-size BTTF DeLorean would be pretty sweet. Besides, the shapes are more squarish and (probably) easier to pull off. That is very plausible option for the future, honestly. As for branded buildings, what do you mean? Stadiums and so on?
  19. I feel it's only fair for me to comment on this build. AMAZING. This puts my ASIT to direct shame. There's so much to be learnt from here. I really like the red roofs and the builder's daring choices for windowing on the orange building. I'm honestly surprised orange and teal work so great together . What else, what else, the railings using the Erlenmeyer flasks is brilliant and I really like how the linings along the sides and below the roofs are simple but very effective. Plus, Vader proposing to someone is pretty hilarious . And thanks @LegoModularFan, I had a picture on my Pinterest of a villa from the Provence which I had no clue from who it was. Now finally I know! Here it is:
  20. Okay in the sense of "it's not great". They've used the arches to achieve something that doesn't quite work. In fact, the first thing that came to mind when seeing it was a Morris Marina or a Datsun with an Aston terrible surgery over it.
  21. I did a DB5 at this scale two years ago. They have done a great job telling from personal experience. The headlight area is well solved. The original has that double curve which in Lego is only trully achievable using this piece, which is just huge and I wish they did a smaller version of it. The grille is okay. Probably the best that can be done in Lego. The issue is that the grille kind of dives forward and then leans back for the bonnet. From the picture the hubcaps look like a flat black piece with a print. I really hope it is a sculpted mould, but maybe for stability issues they haven't. I really like the fact they've put the steering on the right . Now onto what looks bad: 1. The side of the car. Why is it flat? The car very clearly has a subtle curve, making it narrower on the floor. This is probably caused by the front wheel arches, which block the side to a specific brick. 2. The length. It doesn't feel sporty at least from this image. It feels a bit like a Merc sedan. Looks okay, I'll wait for more images.
  22. It's deleted now. Huh, the comments on Reddit say it's way too square and not sexy. Guess will have to wait for another leak or the press release to see.
  23. Like in most licensed sets, the logos will most likely be on the bottom right hand side of the box, Aston Martin's and James Bond's. Even for the bigger Technic sets (Porshe and Bugatti), the Technic logo is maintained; the same with all the other Speed Champions and Creator Expert sets. I believe the Creator Expert branding is pretty safe as it is, with the other brands as side acts.
  24. For those doubting it wasn't a DB5: From Hungarian Lego Shop: http://shop.lstore.eu/LandingPage.aspx?LandingPageTitle=LEGO-Creator-Expert-Aston-Martin-DB5-elorendeles
