Land-Rover Defender 110
Paul Boratko replied to Sheepo's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
LOL.. Yeah, NIX that Toyota staement.. During my post Toyota came out because of the similarities in the names.. I had just remembered that there were quite a few major automobile websites(and also dozens of smaller ones) that were featuring this model back in May, including the main Land Rover websites... -
Land-Rover Defender 110
Paul Boratko replied to Sheepo's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I think Lego is compelled to keep the entire Land Rover theme since that is what initially helped push the model through it's introduction as it was featured all over the internet on many autoblogs and auto websites including Toyota's own Land Rover one and most were linking to the Cuusoo site... So you had Toyota fans supporting primarily on the project name alone... As with the Winchster that got rejected, when asked why they couldn't just change the name to something else and enter into the Monster Fighters series, the response was something along the lines of "That wasn't what got it the support and it wouldn't be fair to the fans that supported it based on that theme" or something along those lines... Also, I can't see Lego using the current driving rings in any motorized gearbox(or for a motorized clutch in this case) because there is just to much room for failure with them(slipping, breaking, and most especially wearing out)... I am hoping in the future that Lego does introduce some new transmission parts that are designed stronger and more reliable... -
LEGO® CUUSOO 空想 - Turn your model wishes into reality

I don't know what the sales are today, but going into 2012 Red Dead Redemption(A multi-platform home console video game from Rockstar set entirely in the Old West) Sold 13 million copies since it's release in May 2010... That is pretty impressive... -

Next CUUSOO set: 21103 Back to the Futureâ„¢ Time Machine
Paul Boratko replied to Blakstone's topic in LEGO Licensed
I think that the Modular Western Town would make a fantastic set for a Back to the Future 3 theme(with a few small alterations to go along with the buildings in the movie).... I can see it now... A Mad Dog Tannen Figure and a Horse Cart Hauling Manure... -
Can't wait to see what you decide.. I like this idea...! Personally, I would try and use either white or black friction pins instead of the blue ones though for mounting.... Unless your goal is using all modern parts...

I feel that The Lego Group really needs to start respecting what some of these LUGs are doing for their company and how they personally are contributing to their sales, and Lego really needs to recognize the LUGs and Designers who are helping them and stop being so particular about what qualifications are needed take advantage of certain privileges... I was told at Lego Kidsfest in Pittsburgh 2 weeks ago that Lego was going to stop inviting LUGs to display at the Kidsfest events, which in my opinion is a bad move on Lego's part...

The subject of selling instructions has been beaten into the ground over and over again and it mainly comes down the person who designed the MOC... Whenever I build something I always try and post as many detailed pictures as I can so that anyone with average skill could reproduce the models without instructions, so if I already am spending my time doing that, what is the point in Eric and I collaberating together and spending countless hours to publish good looking step by step instructions..? There really is no incentive since I have already provided what is needed in the first place... Then you must take into consideration what kind of money that the designers are paying to provide their service to the world... Perhaps some of them are paying yearly fees for an ad free website, or have to pay monthly compensation to a webmaster who services their site... It's easy for everyone to come along and say "I would never charge money" until you are in certain situations that may call for it, or countless e-mails constantly asking for instructions... -

This is a really nice model.... As usual... -
The Golden Age for me was when the 8448 Street Sensation was released... Obviously every year since then, the Technic theme has been improving more and more every year... I just got back from doing Kidsfest in Pittsburgh and the Lego store sold out of technic sets.. That was a very positive thing to see here in the United States... As far as the brick type goes, for a guy who got his first Technic set back in the late 70's and then went through the entire 80's with them, I don't think that I would ever want to go back to those traditional bricks again... I just feel that models built with the newer styled elements are much more challenging and have an end result that is much Nicer...

Well they look similar in the fact that they are both LBG in color, but when viewed side by side, this new one doesn't appear to use the same build techniques at Sheepo used other than the #3 connectors to get the Window angle.. I am certian that it was inspired by it, but it is obviously constructed in a smaller scale... I think if this new model were built in red(or some other color) that no one would even compare them.. LOL... There is only one sure-fire way to avoid this, and that is by not posting pictures of your models at all.... But of course you don't want to do that... You just have to accept that situations like this are inevitable... I have people selling direct copies of my stuff all of the time... Not much there really is to do about it... To be honest, I don't even care anymore... I wouldn't worry too much about this... For every similarity that you can find with it, you can also find something done much differently..

Ford GT Abandoned Project
Paul Boratko replied to Paul202's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I was working on a project for the last 3 months and came to the realization that I had to scrap it and start back over.. It is frustrating when you put so much time into something and get nothing as a result... Well I guess that you get some experience points out of it anyways.. -
I guess we can use this thread all year since there are many new parts coming out... Here is a scan from the 42011 set.. It has the part numbers for the New Smaller Panels.... Panel #21 - 6022750 Panel #22 - 6022752 I am not sure if this pull back motor is new or not.. It doesn't look like the older ones that I have.. Also, the new Panels have 2 Pin holes on the sides(right beside each other) and a single axle hole in the bottom of the base...

Awesome Model Sheepo..! Very unique ideas..! -
This seems to be the result of a someone building the functions around the model rather than buidling the model around the functions and then just being content with the results... If you want to keep it simple with one gear and true to realism, you place the gear rack behind the hubs towards the center of the vehicle... If you place the gear rack on the other side closest to the front end, then you're going to have to add an extra gear to get the proper turning motion... The person who made the vehicle in the video you posted seems to have skills enough to have remedied that problem, but probably for limitation purposes(and perhaps didn't want to tear apart what they have already created) chose not too.. To be honest, I think this is the only MOC that I think I've ever seen that did this... I am sure there are others, but I've never seen one.... This is an interesting design and more than likely could have been fixed easily...

Meatman, this is definitely a great way to organize MOC instructions and also give the user management over their account... People will be able to upload whatever instructions they want and choose their own price... Chase already has a lot of time and money invested in this project and I think it is a positive step in the right direction... Sure, there may be some bugs that will need to be worked out in the beginning, but as long as Chase has the right people helping and supporting, then it will make things easier... I can see at first how this may seem like what Rebrickable is already doing, but it will actually offer alternate things that the user will be able to do and also work along side with what Nathan Thom's fantastic website...
