Yeah, it really would be cool to have a hub that can be used in a few different ways(Like with adding or removing ball joints/axles/pins)... I've mainly been building in 1:10 scale and it is just so damn hard to come up with different ideas anymore for different suspensions in that smaller scale, especially with the old hub style... In all Honesty though, I have no idea what kind of help that you would need from me, I think you've already shown over the years that your Mechanically inclined skills do more than hold their own...

Cool NFL Themed Car
Paul Boratko replied to Meatman's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I did a Black Gallardo last year or the year before that and I borrowed 4 of them from it... Brickfair is coming up and I think every car that I am taking is Black... -
You couldn't be any more right about that... The pivot point of the standard Lego hubs is too far inward instead of being closer to the wheel where it should be, thus resulting in many builders(including myself) of having to make wheel wells larger than they need to be to accommodate the extra wide turning of the front wheels when steered... I am really hoping that in the upcoming year that Lego decides to bring out a whole slew of new parts including possibly new wheels(A nice simple 5 spoke 1:8 scale would be nice) as well as some new clutch gears and suspension components, preferably more proportional to the scale they are meant for... I wold also like to see a 5.5L or 5L new shock absorber... I can't wait to see what you come up with for a design for this new Car project... I am sure that it will be nothing short of amazing... And if you you do in fact go with aftermarket wheels and want to get them chromed or color tinted, let me know... It shouldn't cost very much to ship them back and forth to each other...

Where's the BLUE?
Paul Boratko replied to gmshades's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I would love to see you design just about anything for Lego, and for as well as I know your previous work, you certainly don't need any assistance from me to pull off something that is anything less than amazing... -

I am hoping to see some Blue and Silver in the 2013 sets... And maybe some more white... -
Wow.. That Pirate collaboration is really impressive!

I was merely rebutting the claim that people who ask for money for their instructions are being cocky and wanted to know where exactly the cockiness was being derived from since I am in fact one of those guys that sells multiple types of instructions... I also didn't mean that everyone should charge money for their instructions, but you can't expect everyone to put in the time making them and then give them away for free... If people want to spend weeks making instructions and give them out for free, then more power to them... And I have never put a cute copyright next to anything that I have ever done, so I don't know where you are coming from with that... I usually put my website name on the first picture that comes up at brickshlef, but that is all...
-
Cocky? Did you really say that..? How exactly did you come to this conclusion..? I sell instructions and I go out of my way to help promote other people's work... Want an example..? Check my Friend's wall... How many other builders use their own website promoting other people's work through picture links..? Or ask around and see how many people that I have supplied to and shipped parts for completely free... I also have a website that needs funded and a webmaster that needs compensated so that I can share all of my work with the rest of the world for FREE... You see any ads on my website..? So do you think that we should all spend multiple hours doing this for nothing...? And what are you giving back in return besides complaining...? You ever create any threads on Eurobricks for anyone else's work other than your own...? Cocky he says...

Ok, 1 guy said Plagiarism, but that was also 4 days ago and pages before the designer's comments were posted and since then various other people have been using words like Steal and Rip-off when they don't have to continue to do so because as far as I can tell the entire issue has been dropped... So there is no need to continue to bring it up anymore...
-
You guys really need to quit continuing to bring up terms like Plagiarism, Stealing, and Ripped Off. I don't recall anyone actually using any of those words except for people that have been repeatedly defending the designer... And the ones that had been previously talking about the similarities have not even been posting about it anymore, so why keep talking about this? I'll be the first to admit that when I seen the pictures side by side the 10228 most definitely looked inspired by the older MOC, but if the designer said he never seen it and didn't use any ideas, then I respect that and believe him... But continuing to keep bringing up these ugly words that were never even used by anyone isn't helping the cause here...
-
You couldn't be more correct... From what I've seen, I don't think there is one person who didn't think this House is anything less than amazingly well done... I have seen many many threads here where people bash the heck out of Official Lego models, and you know that has to hurt the designers feelings because I am sure that they browse these forums as well, especially when they see a thread about a set that they did... This certainly isn't the case with this one... It's not against the Law to have an opinion... What exactly needs policed better here..? Unless there is something going on here that I was unaware of maybe..? If anything like I said above, set bashing is something that I would eliminate, but then again, is that really fair..?
-
This entire thread has been very civilized for the most part, but when you start name calling, that is only going to infuriate people and continue to keep a subject going that has been already put to rest... Very much agree...
-
As a member said in an earlier post here, the only people that seem to be using the words Steal are the guys who are supposed to be defending the integrity of the designer... I don't care who used what from who, the end result is absolutely stunning and I think this is one of the finest sets to come along in quite some time...

There is absolutely nothing wrong with using Techniques and build styles that some else has used, but I feel as I have reached a point in my theme of building where I am expected to push the envelope more and come up with new ideas rather than recycle what someone else has done... There is no point in spending 6 months developing a new model only to have people come out and say "That's nice, but isn't that so-and-so's idea for the gearbox?" In the theme that I build in, I feel that since it is such a small fan/builder base, that it is very important to stay as original as possible...
-
There is a nothing wrong with using someone else's ideas for you own MOC as long as they are not being used for profit... I actually look at other people's MOCs if I am doing a similar model to make sure that I am not doing anything similar, so viewing other's MOCs can go both ways as far as looking at other people's creations goes... Obviously for the most part the entire 10228 set is different, but I find it very difficult to believe that it was not somewhat inspired by this Fan made model...
-
What a fantastic set..! With that said, I have to admit, the similarities in just the design of the windows of the official set and the fan model are almost identical.. Far too identical to be said that the fan model was never seen prior to the official build... What are the odds of all of those different pieces being used in the exact same way..? Then you factor in the color and style of everything else and to say that this official set was designed without inspiration is crazy... I have been to many shows and seen many haunted houses and never seen 2 that were quite this close in build, color, and technique... But is there really anything wrong with admitting that you were inspired by someone Else's design..? Even if you are a designer for Lego..?

Do you have a link for this Dark Bottle project? I don't see it at Cuusoo... Is it made by the same guy that did the Bucket Project? -

Paul Boratko replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Star Wars
It's all in the license and fan base tied to the model.. I have been doing Contest Giveaways for websites, Charity work based on my model(That just happened to take place after I submitted my model to Cuusoo), TV spots and multiple newspaper articles spread across the U.S. and I am lucky if I get 10 supports a day...
