[TC18] Porsche 911/964 AWD

@jorgeopesi, I cleaned a room for gear rack to move backwards when steering. I guess, this can be counted as "clean" solution. What do you think? -

Ah well, I thought of the suspension with drive. In fact, Zerobricks' solution was the one that inspired me. I do respect your viewpoint, since I by myself have some strict principles regarding building technics. I think I can manage to do it without using tolerance play, and I have already some ideas in mind. Thank you for your opinion! Now I want to make it "clean" and deserve your approval -

Thanks! I still need to replace lime plates with neutral LBG ones. I can share an LDD file of engine later if it is needed. I do wonder where have you seen such front axle? I haven't seen them. Everything moves freely even if wheels are steered and suspension is pushed. Sure, it does rely on backlash and play between parts, but so do many steering mechanisms in official sets. I provided LDD-file earlier so you can build it yourself and test. I also recorded a prompt video of axle. Pretty hard to show it only by one hand, thought. -

2L axles are pushed by 1x1 plates and return under the weight of 2L beam. I made a short video with demonstration: -

I made an LDD-file of the front axle prototype to share. Note that it is better to use it with the new differential from 42109, since 20-tooth gear scrubs the steering axle in the upper suspension position. -

Thank you! You are not the first one to ask. Unfortunately since this "joke" appeared I do receive sometimes offensive taunts regularly. My username is just my real name with changed syllables. My name is Galim and limGa is derived from it. -
Hello, everyone! This is my first attempt to participate in Eurobricks contest. I am glad to see a lot of entries and I must admit that I had a lot of inspiration and ideas from them. As you can notice from the topic's name I am going to build Yet Another Porsche, since I am among the others Porsche-lovers. The features I want to implement: 1. All wheel drive with three differentials. 2. Independent suspension on all wheels. 3. Working steering wheel and detachable HOG. 4. Two rows of seats (something you don't see very often even in the bigger scale). 5. Working Flat-Six engine with Boxer configuration (not Flat V180, cause it is Porsche) 6. Openable bonnet, trunk and doors with locks. 7. Foldable front seats (you need to access back seats somehow, right?) I guess the list of features looks very optimistic, since the scale doesn't help at all. But I do love these challenges, as they make my head burn in thinking how to solve them. Also I did want to integrate a 4-speed gearbox or at least a DNR-gearbox. I did come to some compact solutions, but every one of them would ruin the interior and backseats. I still hope to somehow manage it, but reluctantly I discarded gearboxes for now. So far I have a prototype of the front axle and the fake Boxer engine. Front axle. I am really proud of the front axle solution, but I need to thanks other builders with similar setup which gave me inspiration. It is double wishbone indepent suspension with floating differential: The engine. The idea was to make a model of real Boxer engine where pistons are moving symmetrically, since the Boxer engine are the ones that are used in Porsche. The difference between Boxer and V180 is under the spoiler. The classic engine with camshaft and pushrod would be too big in Boxer configuration, so I used the idea with 2L axles and 1x1 plates. The only problem was to make axle move back after is was pushed by the plate. Luckily, @Thirdwigg referenced to this post (in spoiler) and I had the solution. After several iteration, I came up with this. Maybe it can be made even smaller using halfpins but I am already satisfied with the result. Antenna bars are used to prevent axles from falling out in case engine will be tilted. Also, in my opinion, they do look like camshafts to operate valves:) That is all of the progress for now. I do have some ideas for features I listed and would happily share the progress. Stay tuned!

I still don’t have any personal experience with the Control+ and new motors (and new BC2), but in my experience with Mindstorms EV3 the following calibration solution worked flawlessly with the steering motor: 1. After powering up we assume that position of motor is zero. 2. Turn motor in one direction until it stalls. 3. Turn motor in other direction until it stalls, save the measurement of an angle. This angle is the full range. To find a “zero”-position motor just need to be turned again at the half of that angle. And to keep wheels straight motor just need to hold that position. Can such algorithm be implemented in BC2?- 1,308 replies

[TIP] Almost a perfect fit
Limga replied to aeh5040's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It maybe not so useful as it does involve half-stud offset, but still I'd like to share a new (for me) almost perfect fit that works flawlessly in reality. I need this for some suspension. The hypotenuse is 4.47 (square root of 20) in 4 and 2 rectangular triangle. Given the +1 stud it gives 5.47 that is so close to 5.5 that LDD does allow it. It does snap with real parts withous sufficient bending or frictions, just like regular connection. -
I had the same problem, when I was building MacPherson suspension with small pneumatic cylinders. Turned out that old small pneumatic cylinder was seriously leaking in certain position, like it had some micro-crack that was widening when putting in suspension. I changed all old cylinders to the new ones and the was no leak. Also, I like your build very much! There aren’t much builders who experiments with small-scale suspension that isn’t double wishbone or live axle. Motivates me to continue work on my own suspension, may be I will borrow some solutions from you:)

Oddly Youtube put this in my recommendation:) I guess this is something you need. You can adjust the period by length of the links.- 6 replies

Great work! I really admire your efforts and your impact in community of Technic fans around the world. Is there any way to help or support you?:) Also, I would like to know if there is any chance that App will be compatible with my good old iPhone 5? BrickController seem to be only compatible with iPhone 5s and later.- 1,308 replies

Thank you for the suggestion. But there is too many gears for me and I want to have only one gearbox driving ring. Yeah, I thought about old differential from the very beginning. But the connection with 8z gear is the weakest point in those gearboxes on previous page since they cannot be embraced at all. I asked because there could be some compact 2-speed gearboxes with new 20z clutch gear that are still have to be invented . I want to use 2-speed high-efficient gearbox in motorized light-weight model, yes. I tried this variant a long time ago, but with the old driving ring and old change-over lever. It wasn't reliable at all. I will try it with the new driving ring and new wave selector pieces on the sides of driving ring and see if it works. But I still think that ever if driving ring connection with gears will be reliable the 8z and differential gear will slip. There is another variant I came up with recently. This variant becomes quite compact with two L-motors having each own axle and doesn't involve 8z gear. The gear ratios are 1.25:1 and 1:2 giving a difference 2.5 in the output speed. The wave selector piece is easily placed above the driving ring. And it seems that with some not simple gearing two wave selector pieces could be placed on the sides of the driving ring. I still have to figure how to make bracing as compact as possible and how make a motorized switch. May be I need to start a separate topic for the gearboxes for motorized models

42083 - Bugatti Chiron
Limga replied to Jurss's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Well, we do have an old-style differential gear with 24t and 16t gears, that can engage with driving rings too. However, it isn't simple to install and gearbox is much bulkier that with new 20t clutch. -
I've met with @SilenWin today and had an honour of feeling this stunning creation in my hands. It feels so rugged and so reliable. The suspension at work is something I can watch forever. I am really impressed by total stiffness of this model. I will definitely build one!

Congratulations @Marxpek! Have fun with Bugatti:) But no mention of runner-ups makes me worry

Thank you! Yeah, it did indeed pull a wheelie for a couple of times when BuWizz has not been discharged much yet:) I can upload all 50Gb of raw video or just some cuts without music to prove that it is real speed indeed. Fun fact is that the contest is about fast cars and it kind of please to hear opinion that the video is speeded up I understand why video may be looking like it is speeded up. Those are not raindrops from rain . You can see that there are some wet and dry areas on video. The reason is simple: there is some kind of "roof" over the place where I recorded the video. The snow on this roof is melting very fast and is making those "raindrops". Here is the screenshot of the video with this "roof", you can see snow over it. Also on video on 1:22 and on 1:34 you can see those "raindrops" with the slow movement of the car and the movement of men that are obviously not looking like speeded up. Thank you! I appreciate your comment since I really wanted to make a good video

Thanks! All video is played in normal speed except for the parts with slow-mo. I too have a feeling that something is abnormal, I guess it is because different cameras I used had different FPS. Thank you! Glad to hear it.

This is my entry for BuWizz Fast Car competition. Features: - RWD with differential - Front independent suspension with positive castor - Rear live-axle suspension with long trailing arms - RC/Buggy motor for propulsion - Servo-motor for steering - BuWizz 2.0 I wanted to make a fast and agile car that will provide some real "turbo" experience of driving. The appearance is much inspired by BJ Baldwin's trophy truck. I recorded video in the last days of March, when we still had a lot of snow and it was a bit of luck to find some clean place to make video. I am still learning how to make good videos and this was a nice experience. If you like my entry, you are welcome to vote:) https://buwizz.com/buwizz-fast-car-competition/

Great to hear that you keep working on it! Since SBrick official app always crashes on my iPhone I would love to have a working app on AppStore. I will try it soon. I know many people who don't like SBrick official app since it's limited functionality (e.g. can't use one channel on two gamepad buttons), so I will tell them to ask you make app public on AppStore:) I have two suggestions: 1) First one is to make an option to choose SBrick. It is critical, for example, on a meeting or a competition, where are many peoples with SBricks and there is no option to connect only to yours SBrick. 2) Second one is to make support for two and more SBricks. That would be awesome. I am really willing to pay for an stable app with highly customizable gamepad control profile that allows to control two SBricks. Thank you for your work!
