  1. Nope, as i recall, i wasnt planning on AWD-ing 42096, but rather 42077, as AWD seems appropriate there. The real world 911 RSR is RWD, while rally cars are mostly AWD.
  2. How about the defender for €110? (oh, and i can pull an ace, i once found a near complete 8880 in box at a thriftstore for €25) And to each his own, i wouldnt pay €160 for a BWE, im much more of a car guy then a construction guy Yeah, there are a few interesting parts in there, especially in red, but also a lot of basic generic stuff, as a parts kit id say it is worth even less then €120, depending on where your preferences lie (i already have a TON of engine bits, the tires are also a dime a dozen, the wheels are nice though) Yup, this was from Bol.com, im sure it will be available for an even lower price at some point in the future. We might get screwed by lego on the MSRP compared to other EU countries, but at least we get decent deals if you're patient
  3. Thanks, as i said, i hardly ever buy lego at MSRP these days, if you are willing to wait a bit, a 20% discount is pretty much guaranteed to show up, with more being very possible. I paid €300 for the Chiron (Vs a €400 msrp here), €110 for the 911RSR (€150 MSRP), €80 for the charger (€100 MSRP) and the Sian is available at €290 (€370 MSRP). The last set i bought at MSRP was the Ducati, which at €55 wasnt pricey enough that i was willing to wait for a discount, it looked good enough to suffer paying the extra €10 to have it right then and there.
  4. That will be another easy skip for me then, i dont understand why lego insists on taking those two car sets and putting SUVs in them. At least the porsche 911 duo-pack and the previous muscle cars make sense to me, but stuff like this and the Urus?
  5. MSRP, no obviously, lego MSRP is too high imho, and i (almost) never buy without at least a 20% discount. For the ~€130 i paid for the 488GTE, i am more then satisfied. It replaced my creator expert F40 as a showpiece in the living room, and as such it looks very good. I still think it is pretty light on features as a technic set (just like 42096, it should have a 4 spd gearbox, or at least a 2 spd, those are easy as can be with the modern 20z clutchgear, and dont need a complex shifter mechanism), but as a Ferrari, GTE and just allround car-fan, it is an excellent set if you can find a reasonable discount.
  6. Hmm, didnt know there was a mod for 10248, id look into it if i hadnt just sold mine :P And yeah, figures, especially with lego's recent tendency to use loads of different colours and introduce new pieces quite often, on the more interesting technic sets there is a biiig chance you need a part/colour combo exclusive to that set these days, also ruining the ability to do a colour-swap if you want to.
  7. Lol, no doubt about that, i wouldve much prefered the Huracan or Aventador myself
  8. Makes me wonder how expensive bricklinking this MOC would be, the partcount is substantially lower then the set, and save for the new wheelcovers and arched panels in red, there isnt much in there that is very special. EDIT: lol, bricklink easybuy with the inventory got me a €180 solution with three shops (using only my own country), and that is without shipping. Looking at the prices, i could save some money on common parts, but the set-specific parts such as the large frames, heli-blades and wheelarches hit hard....
  9. Agreed, and from that perspective i dont like it. From the perspective of someone who had the Racers Enzo and 599 from a decade ago, and desperately wanted an improved version with suspension, and a fan of GTE racing, im absolutely overjoyed with my 488GTE
  10. Well it is one or the other really, the SW prices rose so much because the models kept getting bigger and more detailed, if you want to push the price down a bit (which i entirely agree with, every kid should be able to have an X-wing, so it should be the €50 mainstay of the line, not a €90 set), the cost needs to be reduced somehow, and for now, there is no reason for Lego to significantly eat their margins, so we get less pieces. As for speedchampions, i agree with the cheap impulse buyable aspect of it, that, and my love for cars got me hooked on it, sets of this size are wonderfully suited for a relaxing evening etc.. without feeling the need to squash it out over several days due to either length and cost, and the finished models almost always look very cool. Given the quality improvements the sets underwent in year 2, 3 and 4 (mostly), i was OK with the price moving from €15 to €18 (went back down to €15 later), and now with the 8-wides, i feel like we get more then enough extra detail and enjoyment to warant the €20 pricetag. BUT, i always approach the bigger sets in terms of X cars, so anything above X * $PRICE_OF_SINGLE_CAR feels like im getting ripped off, I dont care about the side builds, so something like the Ferrari museum, in my mind, was me pissing away €60 for the ability to get €45 worth of Ferrari cars, hence i didnt get it. Same with the lambo set last year, i would have liked the Huracan, but i dont like the Urus, and at €60, the set is €20 too much for two cars, especially when the jaguar set shows clearly that they can actually do two cars for €40... And that is how i approach this dodge set, two cars = €20 to me, and considering the set doesnt even seem to have a sidebuild to eat up parts, i really dont understand where the extra €20 is going, other then "brand premium", which for something like lamborghini is somewhat understandable, but for the brand that is pretty much as exciting as Ford or Chevy (or in EU terms, VW), i just dont understand any of that. Either way, im amazed that this thing is in shops already but we dont even have confirmed set names, let alone any pics.
  11. And 100% wrong if it is about 42125, you can complain about its technic functions and the ride height, but the shape is bang on, especially for the budget
  12. Single car sets are 20 euros, this is two cars without any side builds, i dont see the value here And piececount is a poor indicator imho, especially since this theme uses lots of small parts, technic has a different average piece cost as well for example
  13. Apparently that set costs 60 euros, must be a delayed april fools joke, and a bad one at that.. I like the challenger, wouldve picked that up as a single, but this set is a hard pass for me, i dont get why lego has to do these two car sets where one of the completely ruins it (urus, wrc mini, ipace), when the older twin sets were quite good, like the 911 rsr and turbo
  14. Ive seen colour variations in other sets then the Sian, the speed champions porsches, the Ducati bike, this years' Ferrari 488GTE, Dom's Charger. I'd have to check older sets, but some of those have been rebuilt-modified to the point where the original set of parts might not be there anymore. The Creator Fiat 500 is also notorious for colour problems.
  15. Finished building the set (without stickers) yesterday, but ive already got one mod to mention. I swapped out the central part of the engine crank with a 4L axle and a 1l liftarm bush as a spacer in the middle, to give the car the proper Ferrari style flat plane crank (the two middle pistons are a pair, the two outer are a pair, this is also true for I4 engines, the only V8 i can find with the lego Up-down-up-down crank is a ford engine used in the mustang GT350, which gives it a very different sounds from a Ferrari). Very nerdy, very insignificant once you put the rear deck on, but it matters to car nerds like me :P (i also corrected the crank order on the 42093 corvette and its b-model before swapping it to a porsche flat-6) Next on the list are fixing the comedy ride height and figuring out where i want to go, accurate road-car (so rebuild the interior and swap bodywork to get near a GTB or Pista), accurate GTE car (so stickers and just fixing any bodywork) or even building a B-model, ive seen some pretty cool Ferrari B-models on rebrickable, if i had the space i might even consider getting a second one, but i already dont know where to put this one as it is :P EDIT: also dropped the ride-height, as per this thread, looks heaps better
  16. Just finished step 3/5 of the Ferrari, and i can confirm both the axle-hole allignment-issue on the 3 wide curved spacer, and colour inconsistency between red parts, even between several examples of the same part, are present. Not as bad as the Sian looks, but still.. If i choose to leave the stickers off, the difference in hue/gloss on the hood is annoying.
  17. A small remark about colour consistency. Yesterday i took my GT3RS off the shelf, and lo and behold, the curved 3x13s on the roof show some inconsistency as well... Not nearly as bad as what ive seen in some Sian pics, but definitely there... My innoscence is lost :(
  18. I totally missed the news on the GR010, seems like an unfair matchup in a set, the TS050 would butcher the GR010, even toyota state it will be 10s off the TS050 around Le-mans. :P (and it is me, or does this "hypercar" look suspiciously like an LMP1H car?, make the nose a bit pointier and change the rear spoiler mount and it is a TS060) Either way, i'd love a GR010/TS050 matchup as a set though, im a fan of le-mans, and LMP style cars in particular, so this would be awesome
  19. Man, i just found this issue from the excavator set thread, and it just totally figures... After slowly getting over my annoyance regarding the Sian's colour problems (and being unable to un-see the colour variations in other sets all of a sudden), ive started looking at some new sets, and this crops up, killing any interest i have in these sets. quite embarrasing, and indeed, a big wake-up call for anyone who was buying only lego to avoid these kinds of quality problems.
  20. Looks excellent @grohl, kudos! Honestly, im a bit disappointed in lego for dropping B models on most sets these days, while in general i dont really care that much for B-models, some sets have excellent alternates, where i prefer the B over the A model (like 42093)
  21. On the topic of colour difference, i did some moc/modding last night and used some regular blue parts, there is significant hue difference in liftarms of that colour, and my sample size is tiny, given that i dont even know where i got any regular blue parts from :P
  22. That yellow car looks stunning, very good colour for a ferrari. After reading some experiences with the CADA set i dont think i will be getting it though, apparently the part quality isnt quite up there yet. If a parts list is ever available i might see about bricklinking it, although i suppose the price will be astronomical if one goes that way.
  23. @someRANDguy That looks really good, the white isnt a 1:1 colour match, but then again, lego themselves dont manage to keep their colours matched either, and the design of the added pieces looks really spot on, kudos! @Neil_Dalby If you are gonna quote a long post like that, please delete the pics in the quote, saves everyone a lot of needless scrolling.
  24. Amazing work, kudos, and what a way to stay busy in these times Makes me remember doing a darth vader style eta-2, maybe i should do another recolour of a cool spaceship
  25. The download link is right there in the page you linked https://bricksafe.com/files/jb70/42056-pimp-up-my-porsche/42056-1 - Porsche 911 GT3 RS.pdf
